Check out our NRA gun of the Week video examination of a second-generation bolt-action hunting rifle from Thompson/Center. ↓ ↓ ↓
T/C provides a 22” button-rifled barrel featuring 5R-style rifling, target-style muzzle crown and threading at the muzzle for accessories with its Venture II bolt-action rifle. The rifle's receiver comes drilled and tapped for optics; Weaver-style bases are included. The Venture II series is available in a full suite of chamberings, nine total, in both long- and short-action cartridges. Our review model is chambered for a cartridge hard not to accept as a good one-6.5 mm Creedmoor-and a cartridge that provides a fairly-light recoil impulse and slippery, high ballistic coefficient, 6.5 mm bullets.
Taking a look at the Venture II’s receiver, there is a right-hand bolt handle, right-side ejection port and two-position safety mounted on the right side just behind the bolt. T/C utilizes a three-lug head for lockup, and as such, requires only 60 degrees of rotation to lock and unlock. A sliding-plate extractor and plunger ejector are used on the push-feed-style action. Thompson/Center provides a three-round detachable box magazine to feed its Venture II rifle.
Bringing the Venture rifle series to its next generation, Thompson/Center enhanced the rifle's trigger function equating in the Generation II trigger-an adjustable mechanism with blade-in-shoe safety.
Check out our video above for more details.

These are great rifles. I got a Compass II in .308 Win about two months ago and spent time changing the fit to me. Muzzle brake. No bipod. This is my hunting rifle, meant to be carried in arms or sling all day, if necessary. Because I put on Goda Grip cheek pad and ammo pad, I still wanted recoil management, so, I put on a hydraulic pad, which was about 154 US (149 Ca.) Together, the recoil is like a .22 LR, a butterfly's kiss. The recoil is still there and it will move you but it is much slower. It is sight ready. And TC does offer scope combos and those are great. And if you, like me, already have scopes in your collection, you can get it without scope and put on your own. For a while, I had my Diamondback Tactical on there. Because I mount the front just behind the objective, this was a little too far back on the single bases. So, I got an EGW 0 MOA rail spec'd for TC Compass / II. And that worked. And added weight. Since my regular area to hunt offer shots at around 50 yards, I realized that I did not need quite that much scope, as fun as it is. So, I put the original bases back on, got some pro 1 inch mounts from Vortex and installed my Crossfire II 3x - 9x / 40 mm that I had from a previous rifle combo and now, I am down to total loaded weight (150 gr nontypical whitetail) of 9 pounds 4.4 ounces. That's comfortable. Another way to customize this is to figure out how you shoot most often. Most guys are shooting on sticks or tripod. Some off-hand seated. Anyway, figure out cheek rise. You can get craft foam and vet tape from Amazon pretty cheap and make your own riser. You could put a slip on recoil pad. However, the pad coming with the rifle is already pretty good and you may or may not need a cheek riser. The advantage of these guns is that they are not "showroom pretty" even though I like the look of them. These are working rifles, meant to be carried in the wilderness and hunt big game. With incredible accuracy. First two shots out of mine were Hornady SST 165 grain. measured 1/2 inch apart at 100 yards. As the barrel heated up, the groups opened a little but I still got a good zero with the Tactical scope. Changed to Federal Nontypical Whitetail 150 grain and had three shots land in a 1 inch space, another two shot group with 1 inch gap, and these were in a hot barrel that I could not keep my fingers on. So, like the advice says, start with a big name brand and try a few grain weights. Try another brand. I had read the Hornady SST was the go-to round but my barrel is liking the Federal a little better. Granted, at less than 100 yards, you could probably shoot anything but I am still of the mindset of aim small, miss small.

I just purchased one of these in 300 Win Mag. I got it as a backup rifle and I have to say they offer outstanding value. I had to choose between the Venture II and a Howa 1500. The rebates being offered by T/C Arms right now made it an easy choice.

I bought the first gen 6.5 Creedmoor as soon as they came out...my rifle wouldn't cycle the Hornady Precision Hunter without slamming the bolt forward to shut.. im a big Venture fan, but I didn't keep it much longer after that. I do have a 243, 25-06, and 270 in the blued barrels

Bought one in 350 Legend. Already on the way back to TC with a trigger issue. Blade keeps locking up which stops the trigger from working. Bolt is also pretty tight to turn down. Hopefully it comes back fixed.

The weathershield Venture doesn't come in a scope package, you add your own scope. I believe the Compass has a scope package..
