Brazil adopted this SMG for the Armed Forces and in some state polices. It was produced under license by INA (Industria Nacional de Armas) and chambered in 45ACP.

I was a small arms specialist in the army during Viet Nam era. We had one of these in the armory. It was a blast to shoot and still one of my favorites. I wish I could find one now!

My father went to Vietnam in 1963 as an advisor and had to buy a gun because the U.S. did not supply advisors with guns (advisors were there to advise, not engage, as if that was possible), so he bought this gun and thought it was a great design because one large nut was all one had to remove to disassemble and clean the gun. He also found it to be surprisingly accurate.

That’s awesome! Although I don’t agree with our foreign entanglements, I love learning about the history. Cheers!

It's a decent gun, but for when it was designed could have been better. It's on par with a 1930s era SMG.

I have this old gun .... I WISH ! The first time I saw the Madsen, I was 7 years ago, my Dad took me to the movie Ice Station Zebra. Still love that movie, and still think the Madsen was one of the best desiged sub guns ever. My opinions may differ from yours .... Thanks for the video, great job.

You saw the gun in the movie or in real life? I’m confused, I’ll go check imfdb lol

Bread and Circuses. The 20th Century Roman World where they had slavery (with some legal rights granted the slaves) and gladiator combat. Brutal but they avoided mass wars and blood letting.

Interesting lineage, I'll bet at the time of manufacturing these could be built for $15-20 including a magazine.

The one problem about having a sub machinegun with a forward grip safety.Say your supporting/weak hand or arm is badly injured by an explosion from a bomb, hand grenade or shot up by an enemy machine gun.You see few advancing enemy troops coming to your position. How can you open fire on them with just one hand? If this weapon was design without the grip safety, you can hold with one hand, point at direction and open fire at enemy troops/opponents as they get closer.

I’d say the only way to fix this problem would be to MacGyver the grip safety with some duct tape or twine. Cheers!

Grip safetys on SMGs often times get bypassed in the field. The Uzi is a good example. This one looks even worse than the Uzi's.

I imagine a lot of soldiers had to decide if they wanted to remove it at the cost of losing the drop safety benefit.

So where did these twelve or thirteen thousand guns go? I wonder what country they got shipped off to

Never been a big fan of open bolt designed weapons. Other than that seems like a simple amd probably inexpensive at the time dependable weapon.

It had a grip safety when most others had nothing. WWII guns were all less safe than Madsen.
