"Grooves in Orbit" was the first NRBQ album that I ever purchased. It was an impulse buy that I picked up from the cut-out bin. I had read about NRBQ in the music press, but I had not heard much of their music, and frankly, after the first few times that I listened to "Grooves in Orbit," I could not understand what the hype was about. The album consisted mostly of three-minute pop songs about girls and cars: "I Like that Girl," "My Girlfriend's Pretty," "A Girl Like That," "When it Rains at the Drive-In," etc. Plus there was a twelve-bar blues where they actually count the bars to make sure that all twelve are present: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. Are they kidding? And then it hit me...duh, that's precisely the point. There are no great intellectual statements or grandiose messages here; leave that stuff to Bono and Bruce Springsteen. This album is just pure, fun, rootsy rock and roll, performed by some slightly zany guys who really enjoy playing and are outstandingly good at it. So of course now, many years later, NRBQ is one of my favorite bands, and "Grooves in Orbit" is one of my favorite albums. I would love to see it come back into print. Thanks for making this track available!

i always thought the beat was particularly groovy on this one... but it just now occurs to me, that these guys were huge fans of the Shaggs, and that the beat is oddly reminiscent of their (ahem) unique style
