You can’t deny a live worm is bulletproof for fish bait. I still like the gulp pinched crawlers because they are tougher and stay on the hook better. I really like the gulp angleworms perfect size for panfish of all types. I’ve been fishing berkley baits since I was a kid. They have a very special place in my heart. Especially he power eggs!

Really enjoy your videos. Great tips on gear and techniques. I did notice that your retrieves might be a little too fast. Sometimes, a trout, like bass or crappie, will follow the bait, lure or fly right into shallow water and grab it at the last moment. Some days, trout, like other fish want movement before they strike. Also, I like to fish my fly, lure or bait right to very end of the pool. Sometimes the trout will grab it a the last moment before it goes over the rocks. Keep up the videos! Always fun and informative to watch!

Fish the crawler on a #8 baitholder hooks. Single bb splitbshot 10 inches above hook. Do that and your results won't be close. Day in day out nightcrawlers are best Trout bait known to man. Cathes them consistently year round.

My whole life I've always used live nightcrawlers for wild trout, using the exact same setup you mentioned. I've also used used #6 hooks also. I'd also put live minnows right up there with the nightcrawler too!

Mini Jigs aka mini tubes on a lightweight jig work extremely well for trout as you probably know from one of your more recent videos. Happy fishing everyone!

I do now prefer the gulp pinched crawler. Live night crawlers can freeze in winter get killed by a hot car or day in summer and they can suffocate if in a cooler too long. Live crawlers are great for a cast or two but they deflate with a few casts. For me I get all lip hooks sets with a gulp pinched and I’ve had a lifetime of trout inhaling live crawlers and throat hooked sometimes gut hooked which I hate. We still buy night crawlers a lot for gray light and I always give mine away to folks I meet on the stream after 9am

The trout here in Southern California are hatched in a place called Mt Lassen. For some reason these rainbow trout love moving lures like plastic minnows and spoons and a lot of times work better than nightcrawlers and power baits for me personally. I prefer using lures to anything. I’ve gotten into a lot of Arguement with other anglers that are die hard power bait and night crawler fisherman that insist that there method works better. In the end I think it’s all about putting in the time. Practice is the mother of skill. I don’t think there is one method that is the best.I’ve outfished people that were using those kinds of baits and I’ve had people out fish me as well.

Most wild trouts don’t tend to stay around the same spot. Once they are there they are there for a few minutes and then they will move on. If you don’t catch a trout within the 5 to 10 mins mark then move on. Trouts in the wild always face against the currents just to catch any meal that flows down the river or creek

I have tried the Gulp pinched crawlers many times and I don't know that I have ever even had a nibble. I usually fish lakes and reservoirs from the bank, most often catching with either live nightcrawlers (using slip sinkers) with something to float them off the bottom, or Powerbait eggs or dough. Other than in small stocked ponds and streams like this one, are there others that have had good results with Glup pinched crawlers in lakes and reservoirs from the bank?
@NRVOutdoors
@NRVOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
They have recently lost some of their former luster. Not sure if it's a scent or flavor change but they are not quite as successful as before. I definitely recommend a float rig. Try to suspended the crawler 12" or so from the bottom
@p-dru2205
@p-dru2205 2 жыл бұрын
@@NRVOutdoors Thank you for the reply. That is interesting to know about the potential change over the past couple years - I only got my first pack of the pinched crawlers last fall - so about 8 months ago. Using a float to suspend it a foot off the bottom seems reasonable to do in a river or stream, but in a lake or reservoir, where the depths can quickly got to 10' or 30' deep, it's a little tougher to use a float rig - at least for me. That is why I usually go with the slip sinker, about 3' leader, and put a marshmallow (or other floating stuff) on the hook with the crawler (real or fake) to lift it up as opposed to suspend it down.

Just have to say you make amazing content You're the only fishing channel I'm subscribed to so much great info. On brand new to fishing in this channel has been great help the one thing I'm trying to figure out is when you're pulling your line out going down the stream what is the reason for that? Is it so that it doesn't all spool out at once and you're just kind of controlling it? Looks like a very effective technique just trying to figure out how to incorporate it properly

I feed mine coffee grounds and egg shells and they go forever. I make sure no mold builds up from to much moisture. If I get a little mold I mix potting soil with a little coffee grounds, dump the worms and moldy soil out, wipe the worm container good with a paper towel, put the potting soil mixed with about 1/8 of the container with dry used coffee grounds, leave just a little air space on top, crack 1 egg shell in small pieces and sprinkle on top, ( I save shell from breakfast) close the lid. I check them once a week and see if they need any care. Once in a while I ad just a tad water. Not to much because if the soul is to wet the soil molds. That's it. The crawlers I have now I've had for 4 months and they are larger, plumper, and lovelier than when I bought them.
