This is the first! A 105 car empty coal train going to Enola PA, between cars 70 and 80, there was a big pop, he blew an airhose. Sucks for the crew, they just started their shift at the Powerplant which is around an hour drive from me. First time I ever seen this happen.

Sounds like a "kicker". I remember my first one, I walked my train but found no hoses undone after we went into emergency, just the brake line psi dropping to the point that that pressure is enough to engage the piston to force the emergency tanks to spill their air, adding an addition 20lbs of air in the brake pipe. Thanks for sharing.

Nice video, great horns, but I doubt seriously if the train was doing between 70 and 80 MPH, maybe 25 to 30 at most.

going into emergency is either engineer applied or is applied automatically if you lose to much air pressure. when you go into emergency the brakes on all the cars are applied at one time and the train stops faster than normal.

Nice one man. I don't know WHY, but KZbin marked your comment you left on my A431 video as spam. KZbin is just dumb for that.

@andybowe Hotbox detectors detect heat from journals and hot wheels from dragging brakes.

This happened right outside of my house but the lead engine was right over the crossing! the train was over 130 cars and a mile long blocking four crossings I cought it all on camera. lead power was a dash 9

What does that mean to blow an air line?

oooooohhhh that's happened to me quite a few times...not a pleasant experience when you're blocking crossings. walking almost two to three miles of train isn't heavenly in a snow storm. as for you railfans, keep it safe and respect those trains.

is the trainline air conn fail safe when the air hoses breaks do all of the brakes apply on the train at one time and why does it happen, they need more hotbox detectors that can detect these kinds of problems more often

Lucky catch! Always show the enginenteringrade crossings just in case some idiot gets himself hit. Then your video willikely help in the investigation and you may be able to sell your video to the media. Did you walk over and video the blown air hose? Did you show the crew finding it and repairing it? Why is the right half of your video useless scenery making less train in the view?

@andybowe yes the brakes on a train will not release unless the air tank on that car has been filled so that way if there is a sudden lose of air the air in that tank will engage the brakes and cause the whole train to stop until the the problem has been fixed

Yeaaah! Really, because conductor are have requires if that happens when trains went to emergency then he/ or she should walks to long cars about 100 to 120 that those jobs pretty so bad for that. Sorry for conductors...
