Ned is a Genius like his father who was a 1988 physics Nobel laureate. My Buddy owned one of Ned's headless guitars with his amazing Transtrem and let me borrow it for a few months in the late 1980s , I fell in love with that guitar, it was all graphite had stainless steel frets, EMG active pickups, I wish I had the spare cash to buy it they are scarcer than Hen's teeth today. Great Video Dave, Regards

I have one they are not active no batteries in the NX the switch is for pizzicato or bowed style most owners replace the tuners because they fail under that big string tension and put a set of real upright strings on and they make a huge difference in making it sound like a real upright the stock D'addario strings sound more like a electric bass guitar...a great design by Ned Steinberger I love mine....

No battery required! The active side is powered by a bank of capacitors, instead of a battery, that are quickly charged and supply voltage. If they are quality caps and used with a fair amount of frequency, they should last a long time, and be much less expensive to replace.

That must be the first time Dave has worked on an upright bass on his channel. I like it, that was cool, sounded good too.

Hiya Dave. Be great to see you working on a Steinberger L2 or an Xl2. The original 80s ones ain't got no truss rod! Graphite composite all the way, can only work from the bridge. Keep up the good work mfreind. Brian.

Such great designs. I met him just once but he was nice enough to sit with me and explain some of his basses back then. That was one he didn't make guitars for a while, only did the upright basses and came back to the regular headless basses with the added piece of wood so the headless haters might buy one. Some of the best bridges ever made can't lure people in. Him and Parker are the best.

Some of the WORST bridges ever made. Great design poorly executed. I gigged an XL2A bass for years and got tired of replacing the stripped out claw housings every few months and got a Lakland.

Thank you very much for uploading content about this instrument! I have volume problems with the electric piezzo of this double bass. Do you know how I could solve it or from what area could the problem come from? thanks a lot.
