Charlie, this is where English and Google translate fail our languages but that's fine, sometimes language carries meaning in its philosphy and not in how it translates linguistically. Makabongwe in this context purely means "Be glorified". To get the depth of the word, in most South African (and African) cultures, a king, chief or ruling figurehead will not enter a space before being praised by an imbongi (praise poet). The body language of the people who are being graced by the presence of the king is also one of humility (either bowing, kneeling or laying prostrate). The praise poet or singer will be the only person who walks ahead of the king but in praise to him. That is the idea or the imagery of the word ukubonga (to glorify). In this context, the first verse gives us a clue. God is being extoled for being king and ruler of everything, thus deserving of all our praise and worship. Hence the repetitive call "Makabongwe, hallelujah, makabongwe". Great reaction as always. 🤍

I was physically here when this was recorded . No words can ever explain what happened that night. Play two year old grandson, who may have played this song over and over in my car when he was ill was praising. I guess it was last night or this morning. I’m not sure. The first time I heard this song was post winter 2023 around 5 am preparing for work. I sang along as if I knew the song, my love for Ntokozo in worship made my singing along easy. To sum it up, I blasted in Thanksgiving emotions. May He be Glorified, I thank God for the moments I spend in his presence. 🙌🙌🙌
