His intonation wasn't perfect, with some notes conspicuously flat, and he cracked a harmonic shift in one place. He's not a legend LOL. THAT said, he has a VERY good tone, and his ability to play with such smoothness and tenderness on an instrument that does not easily sound that way IS impressive. In spite of its (to me) obvious flaws, I enjoyed his performance very much. I think he nailed the feeling perfectly, if not the technical details.

Lyrics: Mud! Sand! Water! Straw! Faster! Mud and lift! Sand and pull! Water and raise up! Straw! Faster! With the sting of the whip on my shoulder With the salt of my sweat on my brow Elohim, God on high, can you hear your people cry? Help us now This dark hour Deliver us Hear our call, deliver us Lord of all, remember us Here in this burning sand Deliver us There's a land You promised us Deliver us to the Promised Land ילדי הטוב והרך אל תירא ואל תפחד My son, I have nothing I can give But this chance that you may live I pray we'll meet again if He will Deliver us (deliver us) Hear our prayer, deliver us From despair, these years of slavery Grown too cruel to stand Deliver us There's a land You promised us Deliver us from the bondage And deliver us to the Promised Land Hush now my baby, be still, love, don't cry Sleep as you're rocked by the stream Sleep and remember my last lullaby So I'll be with you when you dream River, oh, river, flow gently for me Such precious cargo you bear Do you know somewhere he can live free? River, deliver him there Hee-eee Hee-eee Brother, you're safe now and safe may you stay For I have a prayer just for you Grow, baby brother, come back someday Come and deliver us, too Deliver us Send a shepherd to shepherd us And deliver us to the Promised Land Deliver us to the Promised Land Deliver us

@Beed_roonsun To be honest I am very non-religious, I personally believe that the beauty in the story of the Exodus (or in any mythology / history of a people) is the fact that the vast majority of Jews in the world tell and preserve it. On Passover, the story of the Exodus is told in a permanent and ancient version called the Haggadah, meaning of the word is to say or tell. The matter is the current common existence of an entire people, every year everywhere in the world for more than two thousand years it is told from father to son, in my eyes it does not matter if it happened or not, the ceremony and the holiday are the preservation of the common story. This is what makes us a people, not necessarily whether we left Egypt or not. And personally I think it's a great story.

I hope to write down my feelings here. The day before yesterday, I attended the NTU Choir’s 60th-anniversary concert. Their collaboration with the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra was truly impressive. The entire 2.5-hour performance was non-stop and captivating, giving me goosebumps and bringing tears to my eyes. In the nearly full National Concert Hall, I could feel the tremendous effort put in by freshman and sophomore students through their club activities. It’s really not easy to sustain such a legacy for six decades. My favorite piece of the entire concert was the overture “Deliver Us” from The Prince of Egypt. Watching videos at home cannot compare to the impact of seeing it live. The choreography and chorus were exhilarating, and it was wonderful to feel the students’ passion for the choir! 🥹

@Half life 3 I don't speak for everyone, but the majority of us do consider ourselves simply just Taiwanese rather than Chinese or both. And yes, it's the CCP that see us as a part of its territory or a so called renegade province, which we strongly disagree with. Don't get me wrong, most of us do know that we are ethnically Han Chinese, but that doesn't mean we identify ourself as nationality Chinese, not to mention that our culture is such a huge melting pot of Chinese, Japanese, Southeast Asian and a bit of European.
@ycchung

@Lovely_Theaceae lol you're fine. Whats so funny is that we also depicted the communist as all vicious demons in our historic textbook back in my school time (especially that Mao bastard), so you are totally understandable too to have this image of all us Taiwanese are as bad as the propaganda which might have affected you. It's nice that you actually realize something different from what you've learned based on your past experience. If you have chance to pay a visit to this "sadistic" island, you will certainly notice that almost everyone here are against the image you've had. After all, we are all human beings in the end, despite our differences.

This sounds like what happened in the US, most Americans are of European descent with a lot from the UK but Americans see themselves as a separate people rather than an offshoot in another state. I hope Taiwan receives the recognition it deserves someday, preferably sooner rather than later. It’s one of the world’s most successful democracies on the doorstep of the world’s largest communist state bent on destroying it.
@LunDruid
@LunDruid 4 жыл бұрын
@Lovely_Theaceae You're absolutely not alone. Contrary to what most of us would like to admit, we get similar things here in America, too. Our political divide, especially nowadays, is because both sides are afraid that the other is seeking to set up a totalitarian regime to oppress the other side, and this is reflected in the media each side is fed. (Liberals are called communist, and conservatives are called fascist, even though neither side is either of these.) It's so hard to know what's real and what's just propaganda that I frequently find myself questioning my own values. Funny enough, when I first learned about Mao, I completely misunderstood and thought he was basically just like our George Washington: a man rebelling against an evil king for the rights of the people. Shows what I know about history. T_T

People always ask why Prince of Egypt doesn’t have a Broadway adaptation and the answer is money. It’s the same reason that the Hunchback of Notre Dame musical never ended up on Broadway, that amount of money for that large of choir is not some thing that investors are going to want to look into. Which is stupid. Because it would make them a lot of money. Because it would be amazing.

Oh my goodness, guys... That artistic choice to represent the last line "Deliver us!" with the horn just hit me in a powerful way. It is like an unspoken prayer that resonates with Heaven. "Deliver us!" 🙏 I wish all of y'all pleasant resonance with Heaven. May honesty and humility be deep wells of strength for you. Let us set all the captives free, for there are many still convinced that they are captives in this world. We walk in victory as One Body in Christ. We are to enter the Promised Land together in perfect peace. Our victory over death is to be a complete victory. Every beloved child of God will know Love. Is it not wonderful news that all may receive new life in full? It is wonderful news indeed. Pray continually, beloved, for the day is ripe with opportunities to sow eternal seeds. Bless you.

It's not that, trust me. This is a phenomenally beautiful piece of music that appeals to a deep human yearning to be free, and prefaces one of the greatest stories about that subject to have ever existed throughout human history. It should everyone at least think about crying...

I could listen to this for hours on end. Incredibly beautiful vocals and Symphony. Can't get over the crispness of those trumpet solos! And the strengths in all the voices while they are moving and with some of their backs turned as well. Such a gripping and Beautiful song. If anyone has not seen The Prince of Egypt, I highly encourage you to make the time to watch and listen. It is a beautiful rendering of the life of Joseph and many people in God's hand of provision, protection and miracles throughout. God can take what is meant for evil and turn it for good. Thank you, blessings and great respect to each of you who took part in this beautiful, Musical gift.

Moses, actually! Prince of Egypt is about the Exodus. Joseph is Genesis, Moses is Exodus. Sorry, Bible nerd here, had to correct that lol

@@Zelkaru711 @Daniel of Mintaka Hi and thank you, Dan! Yes, Moses! I had been talking about the Sight and Sound beautifully portrayed life and story of Joseph not long before I saw this amazing arrangement and mixed up the name. His story of God's faithfulness & redemption is wonderful, too. Thanks again for your kind correction! Blessings!!

Amazing rendition! I may be reading too much into it, but it resonates all the more since it's being performed by a Taiwanese chorus. The people of Taiwan are arguably exiles, just like the Hebrews in the bible. Bravo!

It's definitely a sacrifice in terms of dynamics having a whole unmic'ed chorus sing lines that are usually sung by one person into a mic. Excellent nonetheless, as you said.

Soymaid actually the modern day orchestra is played into mics which are placed above the orchestra, this song could have just as easily been song by soloist singers who as well don't use mics
