So, it sounds like there's an opportunity for young people to plant eucalyptus but instead government is being lobbied into chasing away the buyers. Local processors

eucalyptus trees have dried all our wetlands . Let all companies plant tree nursery with better varieties eg pine and replant the woodlots.

I thought Eucalyptus trees desertify the land. Id only if asked make sure they harvest and plant double of good environmentaal trees that save the ecosystem. Eucalyptus is a prague

No, they don't. Plus the issue is not that they shouldn't sell, it's that they are selling immaturely and in the long run a lot of moneu is being lost.

@hoverboy I get your point .at least if they have to be felled they should wait for them to mature. On environment the eucalyptus is not the best especially on waterways and water catchment areas.. All in all people should benefit from their labour.

Anyone defending eucalyptus does not know how destructive these trees are. Their only advantage is probably their fast growth.

Kenya and Africa need more than double the current tree cover ( more so indigenous) to initiate or allow such level of harvesting. Even if such level of harvesting is allowed, they must be processed at local level to create jobs for the growing pop of youth while also allowing appropriate management of harvesting per ecosystem that thresholds are not exceeded.

There's something inherently wrong with Africans. It is the government that allows those Chinese into the country, gives them trading licenses, well knowing that the country lacks proper laws to curb exploitation. Stop bothering the farmers and be tough on investors..

Eucalyptus regrows. In fact it grows faster than the original. Owners should be free to cut anytime. At their convenience. In one year it can regrow upto 10 feet. What's the fuss about?

Duale told the country that the export and falling off the eucalyptus trees has bn burned, just a mere talk, there's no time the Kenya government has given a statement and make sure that it is followed to the letter.they should issue a statement directing how the farmers should sell their tree to china

I see those trees are in private land so none is to be blamed in fact eucalyptus is a contributor of desertification so we can even exhaust all of them and replace with pine and fruit trees

Eucalyptus are planted for commercial purposes. I find this report quite disingenuous because Ruto is literally illegally cutting indigenous trees in Ngong and Karura.

Why would they talk about trees planted by farmers for their use mostly for business in fact these trees aren’t good as such and need be cut when they grow to stop more destructive so nothing wrOng with selling those trees don’t take us when we used to get permits to can’t our own tree government plant your own trees and leave us alone
