"Guys, I found a solution to our weak hinges breaking!"
@narenchris711Ай бұрын
I'm at least glad that the hinges opens up to 180 degree or table flat, so then the hinge freely fall, there are somthing to hold the hinge. Imagine if the hinges stop only for 145 degress or lower, the hinges would just slam mid-air and relying on the hinge mounts to stop it, and probably breaking it in the process
@CantankerousDaveАй бұрын
The funny thing is that the floppy hinge is almost certainly the result of all the MSI laptops with cracked upper halves due to the hinges always being notoriously too tight. (Like mine, a ge62vr.) They loosened the hinges *too* much.

I got 4 MSI i5 based Modern 14s for the business i work for about two years ago. On paper the specs were very good. There must be a lot of variations of the Modern. Construction is aluminum film pressed over a plastic frame, and nice feeling, but super flexible. Great backlit keyboard, very light. No problem with the hinges, but the screen is so flimsy and slim, carrying in a normal carry bag caused the keyboard to grind horizontal wear lines into the LCD surface. The webcam is under the display, so it points up your nose. I wouldn't buy again, just too flimsy..

Have you looked into keyboard stability at all? Some of the ROGs have keyboards with such poor key stability that you can have keystrokes be completely eaten even though the key felt like it actuated. I know a number of other systems have similar issues but it's something nobody tests for - registration issues on the keyboard near the edges of keycaps. Good video btw

perspective from a poor music composer on the negative points: 1) hinges: luxury problem, the laptop needs to be given extra care 2) poor display: all laptops have poor displays compared to macbook pro's, the one I actually need for audiovisual work. Since I wouldn't do much graphical photography or video editing work the srgb color problem is luxury. At the same time a high contrast ratio and big display is interesting for making music scores. 2b) bad speakers. No problem. I only rely on beyerdynamic headphones for hearing music and recordings, and if the internal soundcard is a problem I will use a 10 year old external one. 3) noisy trackpad and shoppily assembled: I need to use the laptop gently 4) poor battery life: no problem, 3 hours is adequate and I have some old powerstation with USB C PD support 5) becomes really hot and loud under load: now this is a real problem, certainly when doing recordings!! But I hope I can set the CPU to 15 percent limit when recording, this keeps my old laptop from being a dragon, and no problem since recording isn't a cpu demanding task. But this loudness isn't a luxury problem if I want to use it in music production with samples. Though this laptop has the specs, in theory, to make samples like eastwest composercloud work (hopefully), because it has a ryzen 5 processor and 16 gigabytes of RAM. Other laptops in this price category (350 euros) only have 8 gigabytes of RAM or a processor like I3 or even pentium ones, which are only good for office and web browsing.
