MEDICAL ANIMATION TRANSCRIPT: Obesity is a condition in which body weight is more than 20% above normal for age, height, and gender. While genetics play an important role in determining body weight, a properly balanced diet plays an important role in keeping weight under control and maintaining body function. The three main nutrients in a balanced diet are proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. The recommended daily allowance of protein for a normal weight adult is 44 to 60 grams or approximately 20% of their caloric intake. Protein is needed for growth and development of muscle and for maintenance of tissue such as skin. The recommended daily allowance of lipids for a normal weight adult is 80 to 100 grams or approximately 30% of their caloric intake. Lipids have various functions, including energy storage in fat cells, vitamin absorption in the intestines, and composition of cellular structural components such as the phospholipid bilayer of the cell membrane. The recommended daily allowance of carbohydrates for a normal weight adult is 125 to 175 grams or approximately 50% of their caloric intake. Carbohydrates are used by the body primarily as fuel. They can be simple carbohydrates such as table sugar or corn syrup. Or they can be complex carbohydrates like pasta, vegetables, and whole wheat breads. Proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates compose nearly all dietary calories. Lipids are the most energy dense, containing more calories by weight than either proteins or carbohydrates. When the body has more calories than it needs to fuel its activities, it stores the excess as fat regardless of the source. Treatment of obesity must be addressed on an individual patient basis. However, some common treatments for obesity include diet and exercise, drug therapy such as orlistat, which blocks the absorption of fat, and surgical intervention such as gastric bypass and gastric banding.

It's important to note that for each biotype (such as ectomorph, mesomorph, endomorph, etc) there's a best percentage rate of consumption of each nutrients (that also depends on the goals, nutritional and health status, etc ... but the biotype defines a lot). It's important to note also that the insulin "spike" (a suddently rase) after consuming high doses of carbohydrates in a meal tends to lead to lethargy (feeling laziness/drowsiness), and also to be more resistent to the insulin effects (with one of them is stop feeling hungry), so the percentages need to be also equilibrated in each meal - this channel has already showed some deseases that a high carbohydrates and lipids consumption can bring, such as arterial hypertension. That a low protein consumption in a meal tend to make us feeling less full after it. But a consumption above the recommended percentage can manifest some deseases in the long term (such as kidney stones). The glycemic factor of the food, and the food combinations that can change it (and prevent that insulin spike, feeling constantly hungry...). The video was really simple and generalist (sausage as example of lipids source? Well not wrong, but, anyone recommend it, it's trash), it's a good fast resumed introduction for the topic, but it's a little bit more complex than it can be seeing- and of course I guess who wrote it knows. I just feel the necessity to point it out, and show some of the factor that affects the diet, weight and etc; and maybe open the discussion to more information be added as reply.

Never in human history has obesity, especially in westernised countries, been an epidemic like it is in the 21st century. 40 -50years ago, life was very different and people weighed a lot less.

Unfortunately there's no shortcut. Diet and exercise. If you're overweight, try a restricted diet of 1,500 calories a day. Losing a pound or two a week is a realistic goal. Loose too much too quickly and your body will go into starvation mode. You might also want to look at what people who have the body type that you want eat. Just don't get suckered into buying useless supplements.

Note: We know that athletes don't have lipid or have low lipid , their bodies are masses of proteins in muscles , So when they starve for a long time They get energy by breaking proteins in muscles and converting them to glucose ,and I think it is very normal , comparing that to people with obestity , their bodies contain high lipid , so when they starve for along time about more than 12 hs , their bodies start to breake lipids to glucose and during this , ketone bodies produced and the last are harmful to the brain and body Edit: stay healthy and void high lipids
@jermeekable

depends on the sport as to how much body fat they have.. u can go down to 4% but thats bottomline, abs show at bout 10%. Your body will begin to eat damaged cells when fasting, thats called autophagy. Your metabolism will lower requiring less energy. Athletes already have an efficient metabolism so require less energy to function in general. If one is exercising during a fast then the body tries to retain muscle, but u r correct that without an alternative energy source, the body will break down n eat muscle

@jermeekable

@@badraldainfuad9626 I do physique competitions, not body building specifically. So I cant speak for those that do roids or football, but even during a hard cut if your calories are upwards of 50% protein (min 1g per lb body weight per day) n lift heavy then the muscle loss is very minimal, or depending on ur starting BF % n lift experience, u can even still put on muscle n increase strength (this is called a recomposition) .. "their bodies start to break lipids to glucose" this is incorrect fyi, lipids cannot be converted to glucose.
