I had this surgery done 3 days ago, along with a tonsillectomy(the removal of tonsils) all at the same time. My nose isn’t in pain like my throat is and I heard that the removal of the splints is the best feeling ever, so definitely looking forwards to that. My nose does feel stuffed up and I was bleeding quite a bit after the surgery for like a whole day. I’m just glad I finally did it and can’t wait to breathe normally.

I am a bit over 1-week post-op. My surgery was a bit complicated a required a cartilage graph. The process took 5 hours under general anesthesia. The Dr gave me enough pain medication the only thing I felt was discomfort. The first 3 days were awful. The sleeping position and breathing through your mouth. As well I felt kinda sick from the anesthesia. I had a head ace and my gums were sore. I didn't sleep at all in 2 days..maybe 15 minutes. So it made my headache much worse. I basically stayed in my room with the lights off. After 4 days. I stopped taking all pain meds, including Tylenol. Breathing through your mouth is downright uncomfortable. My mout was always dry. I bought some dry mout spay, it helped a bit. I had to sleep elevated so it added to my discomfort. I just had the stints removed. And GUYS. That feeling when they are removed. After having an obstructed nostril my whole life has no words. Simply the happiest day of my life. That first breath of fresh air. Of course, the first few days are hard. But don't let this discourage you from having literally a new breath of fresh air. I did lose my sense of smell and taste. My Dr said it should return in a few weeks or up to 3 months. Very likely it will. The most painful part. Was removing the stitches. It stung a bit. Nothing to take medication for. And it was quickly shadowed by that first breath of fresh air. I won't do nose surgery for cosmetics. But to enhance my quality of life. Absolutely! It's a life-changing miracle. I would forever be grateful to the doctors and staff that made this life-changing surgery possible for me.

How are you now? Can you smell and taste again? I have an obstructed nostril I think, and I can't smell very well.
@zendog8888
@zendog8888 10 ай бұрын
@fruffers , my taste and smell started coming back after a month. 2 months, it was fully back to normal. I had my last post-op with my surgeon about a month ago. She told me everything was still healing. She said my nose was still swollen. But I honestly can't tell. And if I ever have any issues, to come back. She still advised me not to do anything. That would risk me hitting my nose for at least one year. I bumped my nose a couple of of times. But it doesn't hurt. If anyone thinks they have something wrong with their nose. Ans it's affecting their life. It doesn't hurt to see a Dr. Sure, the first couple of weeks sucked. That's a given. But I'm not truamized by it. And it wasn't the worst thing I ever experienced. I honestly wish I done it sooner. But I got scared off by watching these reality TV show surgery nose jobs. I think they over dramatize the uncomfort.s I was super emotional. Like things like the smallest thing would make me cry. But the Dr said that's common for any surgery. Your very sleep deperived because of the new sleeping posture. You have a low appetite and not eating. You are not leaving your bed or going out. So what do you really expect? But I'm good now. :)
@kazman_6899
@kazman_6899 9 ай бұрын
How do you know your sense of smell returned to normal? Do you have a standard? Like, are you aware of how much of your room you can smell? If you can't smell it the same, you'd know it returned to a lesser degree? I think people are clueless about their breadth and depth of smell, particularly if they are busy. They don't have a standard based on any one setting with which they can measure it.

Writing this comment from the hospital bed, just had the surgery a few hours ago. I haven’t been able to breath properly in years due to my deviated septum. The surgery lasted for almost 2 hours and I was asleep the whole time so I didn’t felt anything. My nose bleeds and it kinda hurts if i touch it, but the worst part is that you can’t breath. I heard from many people that this surgery is LIFE CHANGING for those with nose problems. Can’t wait to leave the hospital. Y’all stay safe and take care of your health. Edit: Oh yeah, and you are not allowed to smoke for like 4-6 weeks for a properly recovery, maybe this is a good time to quit smoking.. Edit2: today it’s sunday, I had the surgery on monday 6 days ago. I have good news, I CAN BREATH ! I left the hospital on wednesday, and I found out that I had a deviated septum surgery AND a ethmoid sinusitis surgery. My nose gets better everyday, it still bleeds a little but everything seems fine. I highly recommend to do the surgery if you need to do it. I’m gonna be straight, it’s a painfully experience, I barely slept 5-6 hours in 2 nights, and the waiting time before I got those pads off my nose was killing me. Totally worth it.

I had this surgery done maybe 4 years ago. Took about 30 minutes and the doctor told me he was doing 13 of them that day! The toughest part is right after your surgery, because your nostril is constantly stuff and you are not allowed to blow your nose. After about a week and the doctor gives you the ok to blow your nose, you will likely blow out the dried crusty scab that was left from the surgery. Sounds scary but it definately fixed my issue.

I highly advise you not to go with septoplasty, rather go with ballon procedure. May 2021 I had septoplasty surgery…. Main reason I went through the surgery was one side of my nose was always runny and I was not able to breath through two nostrils properly at times. After surgery I waited patiently 3 months hoping it will take longer to see results. Truth is it’s May 2022 …. Last one year has been the most horrible time I have ever experienced in my entire life. After disucting the tribunate it drys up nose and you will never feel normal. I struggle every second! The only way I can feel little better is by consuming one meal a day, I don’t know why that works but it does. That doesn’t mean I am able to breath normally… it just doesn’t kill me completely. No one should go through this

So, I have a deviated septum and can usually only breath out of one nostril at a time. When I'm lying down on one side, I can literally feel gravity close one nostril while the other opens up. Would this procedure correct this and allow me to breath out of both nostrils all the time? This one nostril breathing has been my normal my entire life. I can't imagine what it would be like to breath out of both nostrils simultaneously. SO much more oxygen to the brain! :D

I had this surgery about a month ago and it has been the best decision ever! I had a deviated septum, chronic rhinitis, sleep apnea and everything else that comes with nose issues. I was literally not breathing right at all, constantly spraying my nose with Vicks severe nasal spray and that wasn’t enough. I couldn’t even sleep a normal sleep because my nose would close up on me. I even had the Vivaer Procedure done previously and that did not work either and that ENT Dr. refused to continue to help me. I thank God I found this other doctor that actually recommended this surgery along with turbinate reduction. The first week is a bit tough because of the bleeding, swelling and pain. But it goes away and the meds do help along with the saline wash and antibiotic ointment. The splints were removed within a week and that was amazing! I am so happy I breath again like a normal healthy person.

I had this and a turbinate reduction yesterday. Today I’ve been on the verge of a complete mental collapse. The pain and burning is unreal. The septum was severely deviated to the right and pretty far back so they had to do what’s shown at 1:29 in the video … except they had to remove bone far back as well. On top of that the splints and not being able to blow your nose amplifies the pain, burning and discomfort. Last month I had a fistula repair which I am just about healed up from … I’d rather have 10 of those back to back than this. If you know you know that fistula repairs are just brutal … nasal/sinus surgery is just worst. I had my tonsils out 25 years ago and I’d rather experience that again than what they had to do to my nose. I know it’s subjective and just my experience so take it as that but if you’re getting this done be as mentally prepared as you can and try to have someone around to do the bulk of help/taking care of you at least for the first few days.

@@Anw4rr10r open mouth sneezes only, I have proper smell and can breathe well out of my left nostril. Pretty much no pain anymore but still lots of mucus production. I had a problem though. The day after the stints were removed the front of the septum popped and bowed into the right nostril which has prevented almost all breathing through that nostril. I’ll need a revision and might need a full rhinoplasty because of this. I can feel it pressing on the inner right nostril which is not painful but pretty uncomfortable and you can see on the outside where it’s pushing into the nostril flare.

I'd consult at least 4 ents to see whether work can be done around the turbinates, especially what the success rate of it would be. We should all be arming ourselves with info before visiting these specialists, particularly if work is to be done.

I had this surgery with turbinate reduction done 18 months ago here in the UK. I had NO pain after surgery. Some discomfort, but NO pain. You can't blow your nose for a week, and you won't be able to lie completely flat for about 4 weeks because you will feel everything pulling in your nose. I had no splints, and no packing (they don't use it here anymore) I had to wear a pad underneath my nose for about a week to mop up the goo. I was passing a lot of scabs through my nose for about a month (they don't warn you about this, and some are pretty big) but after 4 weeks it suddenly stopped and that was it. Even 18 months on, I still can't believe I can breathe so well through my nose. My sleep has improved, and the hayfever season was a LOT more tolerable. I wish I'd had this done 20 years ago, rather than waiting until my 40s. I have a low pain threshold and was amazed I was in no pain. I took zero painkillers after the operation as they were not needed.

mitosis doesn’t occur in the septum as it doesn’t have the regenerative cells which are present in skin area around our tonsils and in a lizard’s tail which are required for mitosis. However some people have such cells which can regenerate the septum. It usually happens to people who were born with a deviated septum like Me. It is certainly not impossible but extremely rare. ***

I really don't want it to change but I saw online that sometimes septoplasty may need to be combined with rhinoplasty depending on the location of the deviated septum. I'd appreciate it if people who had the surgery give insight to help me make my mind clear on the issue.

It happens so often a lot on one side of breathing and bending septum One will move to other (right) side after release of breath The Septum will move to left to blocked

I was BORN with a deviated septum (seriously). But the septum keeps a nostril wiiide open so that I has no difficulty in breathing even though my septum is bent adversely. I’m ok without a surgery 👍👍

I’d love to get my nose fixed, and I’ve been to two consultations for a septorhinoplasty. But my family is so unsupportive; they’re unwilling to give me a ride home afterwards.

I hope everyone can see this. I have had a deviated septum since I was 16. I'm 39 now. I have to lay on my left. Whenever my body turns to the right, I wake up to a dry mouth because I couldn't breathe. My body instinctively opens my mouth to breathe. I'm trying to get a CT scan done so the Dr can see how bad it is. I'm hoping to get tje surgery done in September. Its so hard to breathe at times, especially when I catch a cold.

Idk how it is in your country, but my doctor told me that I'll probably need to be in the hospital for a day (maybe two). However, i will have my pre surgery appointment next week, so we will learn things more in detail and that info about the hospital stay might differentiate.

Everyone look up "empty nose syndrome" before getting a turbinate reduction or removal.

Is it really safe to remove that much cartilage? Wouldn’t it make your nose prone to caving in?

Just got this surgery done yesterday, today is my second day of recovery, technically, due to the early time my surgery took place. Personally the first day was the worst so far, second day had increased swelling but the pain is bearable. Throughout my whole life I’ve had a deviated septum and it was never a topic of concern until I finally went to see a specialist and discussed all my options. The best decision for me was to advance with the procedure, I’m now hoping for an improvement in life now that recovery will bring breathing with more ease 😁
