It's not only about getting motivated by the coach but also fearing what might happen if you don't give effort. And Murray absolutely doesn't respect Malone. Murray could literally walk for a whole quarter and Malone wouldn't bench him. So, Murray walks over him and the rest of the Nuggets roster.

The main problem with the Denver Nuggets roster design IS Jokić's replacement but it is NOT the backup center, as many may think. I think many fans still have that old conception of basketball positions based on player size. Yes, Nikola plays the role of center during the game, but also and more importantly, he plays the role of POINT GUARD. He is in charge of directing both the defense and the offense of the team, as well as facilitating buckets for his teammates. He is the first POINT CENTER in the history of basketball and this is something that not only many fans, but also those who manage this team, seem not to understand. With Nikola on the bench there is NO other player on the roster who can generate buckets for his teammates consistently and at the NBA level. So, without him on the court, Denver only have three options to score: 1. With a fast break after good defense. They do get it sometimes, but it's impossible to maintain a fluid scoring rhythm based solely on fast breaks. 2. With designed ball movement plays to generate open looks in 5 vs 5. It seems that from the coaching staff these plays without Jokić don't exist. 3. Through players who can produce advantages to score or double the ball in ISO situations. But there is another big problem with this. Without Nikola, the only ones who should be able to produce in 1 vs 1 are Westbrook, who has one of the lowest basketball IQs in the league and is very inconsistent; Strawther, who is practically a rookie and can't contribute much more than he does now; and Murray, who right now doesn't even have the level to play in the Euroleague. Denver do NOT need a better backup center than the ones they have or have already had, but a player who is capable of directing the offense and defense when the Serbian is not playing. It would have been much more effective for the Nuggets to bring in Chris Paul than Russell Westbrook.
@jorgelacasacabeza4324Сағат бұрын
The second biggest problem is that Jamal Murray is not playing at an acceptable level. With him playing as expected, the team would have two high-level players capable of generating in ISO, with good complements around them. The only thing needed would be that second point guard (ideally, also capable of generating his own points). From my point of view, Jamal's main concern is that, together with his physical decline, he has too much ego. How is it possible that playing less minutes Westbrook gives more assists than Murray? Definitely, Russell has neither better IQ nor better hands to pass. I think that Westbrook is at a point in his career where he is more willing to passing the ball, while Jamal constantly tries the hero ball. On more than one occasion, we have Jokić in the center zone, with an advantage over his defender, but Jamal prefers to take an inefficient shot. That is why he is the only player who does not improve with Nikola at his side now, because he ignores Jokić's system and tries on his own. If the Canadian played smart, not taking unnecessary risks, and just letting the flow of the game come to him to take easy baskets that Nikola can generate, he could be a 20-10 with good percentages player every game.

Lol. I like how people say Malones lost the team. 😂😂😂. NO. It's jamals mentality in the first quarters every game. He's super indecisive. How many jump in the air turnovers does he make? And sad thing is when russell started 4 him we play better. He has to pay attention to how russell attacks and passes early. Jamal is to good to play this bad as the point guard.
@JovicaMilutinovic2 сағат бұрын
Defensively, MPJ is a very bad player, just like Jamal, especially when rotating, they throw out other Denver players who are on the floor. While I'm still writing about MPJ, his complete sleep in the last quarter is repeated, and he even finishes the game with him again while PW is sitting on the bench when the defense was most needed. Gordon in the last quarter, nothing big both offensively and defensively, but he didn't play for long, so I blame the coach here because he shouldn't have kept him on the field so much immediately after coming back from injury, Powell played 25 minutes for the Clippers, just because he is coming back from a long break. Jamal simply can't do better and you should seriously consider putting him on the bench while Russ would have more minutes, this really makes no sense for Jamal because you can see the lethargy on the field even when he seems to be trying his best. Jamal entered the 4th quarter with 13 points and 5 assists, that's all from him. I'm a little worried about CB because again, like last season, the finish at the rim, which was great until the last couple of games, is not good. Also, in long intervals, the CB on the court only passively passes the ball without trying to attack the hoop, and that when he needs it the most. Free throws are a collective burden and I really don't know what the coach in charge of free throws is doing with the players. I watched Houston's games and I can say that they are certainly in the top three teams in the west with OKC and Dallas, Portland plays extremely good basketball, they have a very good team, even the players who were bad last season have significantly improved their game. Denver is uncertain as far as the playoffs are concerned, I can't see them winning 3 or 4 games, not even Portland, Spurs, Phoenix, Houston, Kings, Dallas and Grizzlies, let's pray they have a 2-2 record, but everything seems 1- 3 currently. Denver's defense does not look convincing, especially Jamal and MPJ and the coaches noticed it, so we could see in the first half the Clippers players pass and slip very easily among the players under the board or that dunker spot, where they finish with a dunk or a layup, everything on the side where the MPJ is.

@milosjovicevic60833 сағат бұрын
This Malone's philosophy does not and will not pass. A huge distrust of half the roster and to much trust in semi-washed or washed veterans. Every year the same story. It's just that now Murray doesn't hit as well as before and Malone's weaknesses are already very visible. 5 years of Jokic playing at the level of the best players ever + a couple of Murray's explosions consistently over the years mask Malone's weaknesses as a coach. I like Malone as if he is some distant uncle. I've come to like him a lot over the years, but he just has a few major flaws as a coach. Some things are not his fault, but the management's, but now he is playing in fear. He gets even tighter when it's bad and makes it even worse in his often rigid philosophy of rotation, mistrust of half the players, too much trust in veterans. Denver won the title with super methodical half court offense. I like Russ and his energy, but his often chaotic fast pace is a departure from Denver's standard methodical offense, from probably the best half court offense ever. This is far away from champions level of basketball. Russ has about 33% fg out of garbage time. He can't control himself. In today's modern shooting basketball, having a player who with 10+ fg has such a terrible shooting out of garbage time is simply not winning basketball. It's even crazier when someone tells me "Russ wasn't brought in for shooting". But he has a huge usege and cannot control his nature. I don't blame him, it's Malone's fault for playing him so much and shortening the rotation. The 9th place in the table speaks for itself. Below are the only lottery teams and Minnesota and Sacramento that had bad trades. The season is too long. Jokic is already playing playoff minutes. A RECIPE FOR DISASTER. Does Malone even realize that Jokic's 35-40 minutes are not the same as others because he actually plays both center and playmaker, the fatigue is bigger like that. Already at the beginning of last season when i saw Jordan and Reggie on the roster i knew we had no chance for b2b. And so for years. Constant mistrust in half the roster and constant overplaying with veterans. Last year if Denver had replaced Reggie and Jordan with any others pg and center even remotely playable halfway through the season - Denver would have played the finals with Boston. I'm afraid that now the situation is already like that in the first quarter of the season. I'm happy for the title and a great 10 years, but I don't think Malone can change. Unfortunately the only way for Denver to be competitive in the playoffs is to replace Jordan, Russ and Zeke with 3 other players. Because Malone won't/cant change his philosophy. Only FO can save Malone from his delusions. The sooner Denver cut off Jordan, Russ and maybe Zeke - - the better playoff chances will be. Russ is like Barton on steroids, he'll give you some but takes a lot also. Why Jordan is still on the roster is a mystery.
