You should have written it this way 0101100 instead of 101100 since we start writing from the number in the bottom of the the number decided. My humble opinion

We start from base 2 because in base 2 we have just two number which is 1 and 0, so we can't start from 1 or 0.

2 into 44 means 22 + 22 = 44 (remainder 0 because 22 + 22 is equal) 2 into 22 means 11 + 11 = 22 ( remainder 0 because 11 + 11 is equal) 2 into 11 means 5 + 6 = 11 (remainder 1 because 5 + 6 is not equal) 2 into 5 means 2 + 3 = 5 (remainder 1 because 2 + 3 is not equal) 2 into 2 means 1 + 1 = 2 (remainder 0 because 1 + 1 is equal) 2 into 1 means 1 + 0 = 0 (remainder 1 because 1 + 0 is not equal) You must make sure that your last quotient is 0. Hence we have (101100).
