This video makes me feel better about some of the drafts I've had. This set is so weird, I've gone 7 wins with decks that had no right doing so and gone 0 / 1 wins with decks that look crazy strong. One deck I had a really powerful G/B Phyrexian deck with 2x cosmic hunger 2x Lorwyn invasion, Glissa and a bunch of great curve out cards including 2 vatkeeper. Just got completely bomed out or mana screwed 3 games in row and went 0 - 3. Then the next draft I just did some clunky selesnya counters deck with the only bomb being boon bringer valkyrie and went 7 wins. I am still enjoying this set though, far better then all will be one.

Happens in all sets tbh. In Dominaria, and this one i had crazy decks goin 0-3 up to 2-3 while some piles made 6 or 7 wins. No good deck can survive mana screw or flood. It is what it is

Missed a really good opportunity to go Grixis sacrifice/graveyard matters in Pack 2. Could have picked up Stormclaw Rager and Compleated Huntmaster on picks 2 and 3, then wheeled the Furnace Reins on pick 10 for a nice little combo. Would have then let you take a lot of strong red cards in Pack 3! Also passed on the Joyful Stormsculptors for some convoke/sacrifice synergies. Hindsight 20/20 obviously but as you've noted multi-color is definitely very strong and viable in this format. Anyway - been enjoying all your draft vids! Your draft, deck building and gameplay commentary has been really insightful!

Berserker is just a good card, idk why he doesn't like it. I know stats aren't everything, but it's a top 10 uncommon on 17 lands

Fellow tubers: Is this set really that bad to draft or is it less about bombs and more synergistic now that it's been out for a while?

It is about the bombs, synergistic decks can keep up with their card advantage, but do have to deal with the actual huge creature. E.g. I've beaten Etali 3 times so far, but only because I was able to remove the 7 / 7 immediately and I had to work hard to keep up with its raw card advantage (a LOT of the uncommons provide 2 for 1s and even some commons do) I was very close to beating a sunfall today in one game, by grinding back with the uncommon RB card that allows you to sac stuff to draw a card (and it gets a +1/+1 counter) and squee the immortal. I've even dealt with them lutri-ing the 4 mana incubate X twice, where x is the number of lands you control (they had 8 lands, so they got 4 8/8s out of the deal), thanks to two threatens taking their tokens and sacing them for card advantage and value. But sadly they weren't done yet and played the bomb WB battle, that makes infinite tokens and gives tokens lifelink, which was finally enough to kill me (I did have them at 4 life at that point as well, amazing game overall). So it is fun to draft and play, the games are quite complex and your decisions matter, BUT removal is premium, you do have to deal with certain cards ASAP. Decking is actually a real threat if you play a couple of the all player mill 3 cards, I think I've "milled" out 2 opponents with gyruda and unseal the necropolis in my very first draft (yes they where able to handle the gyruda, I needed the mill to win in the end)immortal. I've even dealt with them lutri-ing the 4 mana incubate X twice, where x is the number of lands you control (they had 8 lands, so they got 4 8/8s out of the deal), thanks to two threatens taking their tokens and sacing them for

There are SO MANY bombs in the packs too that you’ll often see them later than normal (like a grim Grin here) but whether you are set up to play them or not is another matter. 8 drafts in and still enjoying it, but man it’s so hard in Platinum that I might switch to BO3

its about the bombs but also synergy. everyone has access to bombs, so its up to you to draft a synergistic build with them. its basically cube
