The problem with the format is that it really punishes you if you stumble, even more than normal. It doesn't help that the two strongest decks in the format are either super-aggro "if I draw two lands in a row or the opponent is able to cast a 4/5 I lose" or over-the-top midrange "let's hope I can glutton my way out of this" and very little in between unless you've open a nut synergy deck. So you feel very bad if you lose because there are a lot of non-games in such formats (i.e. if you flood with aggro or you can't hit your fifth land with golgari/simic/sultai poop), and you don't feel especially good for winning because bost strategies are pretty linear. Dunno, I had fun with the format early on, but the more it develops the more I see the crinkles.

I've found myself aggressively mulliganing in this format. There are enough ways to squeeze out value to make up the card deficit but only if you survive long enough to do so and playing your spells on-curve is so important.

I can't help but feel like something was changed with the shuffling algorithm. In bo1 draft I'm frequently getting a single starting land, mono color, or never seeing more than 3 lands the entire game with 16 lands in the deck. In constructed bo3 I'm drawing 1 land hands in a 60 card deck with 25 lands nearly 25% of the time in over 100 games.

So, the balance of this format seems to be: aggro very good! But can lose to the auto shuffler easily. Blue is weak, but can pair best with black.

I just think the shuffler is getting more and more rigged by the day. I have three 4-3's now, and most of those losses came from keeping a two-lander with cards to draw you out of it or ramp out of it like faun, witch's mark, scavenging scoundrel grabby giant and the likes but then not seeing another single land in the first like 10 draws. Sometimes (lots of times) arena is just like that. Maybe we should mulligan more aggressively. Which is of course dumb because we calculate our odds of hitting that 3rd land we need to base our decision on.... Keep pumping out that content Kenji! Really appreciate every single video, let's keep the 0-3 police in check as much as we can!

I have been experiencing massive sways consistently in drawing 5-6 lands of one color to 0-1 of the other color and lots more mulligans than usual. Something definitely feels different this set.

i reeeally don't understand why the designers are so against putting screw protection into most sets. Basic land cycling, tapped duals at common, or some other mechanic at low rarity has (afaik) never done anything but make a format healthier in the long run.

The reason you don't have many 1-3s or 2-3s is because if you have a bad deck you'll just 0-3, and if you have a good deck, then the game doesn't start forcing floods/screws until you're at 3 wins in a row.

It really pains me that you pass the evolving wilds without even considering them, splashing random adventures in this format is really good and you were picking really mediocre cards ober them.
