other useful things with nunchaku's that you didn't mention in this video that perhaps you might want to share later: over the knuckles (to change grip) both left to right and up and down, full strikes can also come from the armpit chamber they will have great speed and explosiveness due to friction and there are also down the back/over the head switches.

Reeeeeally awesome...... like the PHALANX gun on a warship, it's an impenetrable sphere. At 4:00 is incredible. I wonder what the velocity is or even how many hundreds of pounds of momentary force is exerted in those jabs. I lost interest in pursuing this art around the second or third crack on the knuckles on a cold winter day :) I can appreciate your dedication, you're a real artist.

Nice. I learn a few things i didnt already know :) To anyone who wants to learn nunchaku: Pick up nunchaku, swing lightly and vertically,hit self on the top of head. Because your going to knock your self out and if its not worth it to you, You will have only knocked your self out once. If you arent a panzi you will become more comfortable with them and actually get good. Its alot of fun and a good workout. I still have alot of practice ahead of me but its been 3 months no KO :) Kee

@Maskdefender considering Nunchuks originated in China it wouldn't be any major difference between Japanese and Chinese styles in terms of clutching the nunchuks. They both grip the nunchuks similarly, only difference is the form and footing in which the nunchuks are incorporated with.

Hahaha I did this too :D I found out why after hitting myself a few times. The trick is when changing hands catch it closer to the chain end of the stick. If the catch is too far out it’s bound to hit the elbow, back of the head, Tail bone.... I don’t see how people could hit the face and the groin :D

Hello Ninja Nate, I'm trying to learn nunchaku, and I feel like your videos could be very usefull. Nevertheless, I have a question : how do you prevent the nunchaku from hitting your back too hard when you do that move you show at 2:45? I'm training with training nunchaku, that is to say the sticks are made of foam covered plastic, but it still hurts a bit after a few repetition of the move, and I can only imagine how it would feel if I were to do those moves at full speed with a wooden nunchaku. Please enlighten me. (English is not my mother tongue, so I'm sorry if I made any mistake which make the understanding of my message difficult)
@Fandartmartiaux9 жыл бұрын
Fandartmartiaux Actually I have another question if you don't mind. Where should Iplace my hand on the stick? close to the chain (like you)? or is it up to me to decide what I like best?
@SifuNate9 жыл бұрын
Fandartmartiaux Yes by turning with it and absorbing the momentum you will lessen the impact on your own body. You can do deceleration drills to get use to killing the momentum of the nunchuck in the air first. Try vertically up and down, then diagonal and lastly horizontally across. By slowing it down and letting the rest of the momentum wrap around your waist or leg or neck or shoulder it will also absorb the force. So let the string hit you and not the stick. Some force still hits you and it can help to strengthen your ability to take hits. So that you will just have to get used to. If you get bruises then rest for a few days before using them again because you need to let those heal first. Where you hold it can depend on the situation. For the most control and speed you hold it near the string like me. If you want to try to gain more range then you can hold it further down but the control is not as good. It is up to you but I suggest holding it near the chain to start off.
@Fandartmartiaux9 жыл бұрын
Ninja Nate Thanks a lot for your quick and accurate answer. After one day of practice, I already made progress, and having a (good) model to copy is a great help. I've seen some of your other videos, and I think I would really enjoy to have you as a teacher, you sure know what you're talking about and how to make others understand the important part.
