If your skilled enough you can definitely use the nunchucks to grab a bo as well as block a bo attack. These moves can be done by grabbing both sticks of the chucks with each hand and using the chain or rope to block or twist around and grab which I have seen done.

with nunchuks u need to utilise speed and ability to have trick attacks, because nunchuks can change trajectory during attack. start attack, and when opponent starts blocking, change direction to finish attack where bo could not block, or just make fast atacks towards hands where bo is held, because u have more speed and accuracy. Its an analogy of rapier ws sword. also you can catch bo with chain.

The video is definitely reasonable at highlighting the lack of raw power of even something like a bo staff or straight up one handed baseball bat as a flailing weapon. The main idea is that as a flailing weapon it’s much more unpredictable in very crowded close quarters combined with legendary reflexes. Spacing and speed are paramount. If it was just using a one handed baseball bat or eskrima stick, the blocking exercise would be much much more consistently thwarted with a staff and any tags would be impossible

Great video. After seen it, clearly, the Bo has an indisputable advantage. The Nunchaku needs a closer distance betwenn you and your enemy to be effective, and the Bo can keep this distance while been capable of blocking and atacking. The Nunchaku cant block the Bo attack properly, and expose the body of the atacker too much.

Both has great advantages but you're not always fighting in a open space. I have Nunchucks for more defensive purposes and since they're concealable they have a big advantage on bo. They're great defense for the most common weapon I see on the streets which is knives since you can't rush nunchucks without getting hit by combos. You won't stand a single hit from real nunchucks

Holding a bo like a sword or a baseball bat would give the user a huge reach advantage in this instance. Trapping and blocking with one-handed nunchaku requires proficiency but is very possible; the nunchaku wraps the bo and is able to lock-in with the other end. It may be strategic for the nunchaku user to rush the staff wielder and engage the bo with their off-hand while striking with the nunchaku.
@jeffwells6413 жыл бұрын
Once the chuck is wrapped around the bo, however, the bo has significantly more leverage to yank the chuck out of your grip. You're not going to win a trap against a bo with nunchucks. Your absolute best result is not a trap at all - it's the end of the chuck sneaking past the bo's guard and striking the opponent, then bouncing back enough to not wrap the staff. The second best result is you're able to wrap the staff with the chain and catch the other end of the chuck with your free hand, and now you're both trapped and it's a tug of war (which the bo will probably win because of superior leverage, but maybe you're just stronger than your opponent, who knows). Even in that situation, assuming the bo user is not able to rip the chucks out of your hand, he can still move in and strike with either the free end of the staff if you've trapped the end, or either end of the staff if you've trapped the center. The nunchuck user has zero attacking options from this position except for throwing a kick out, which the bo user can do just as well. More likely than either of those outcomes, however, is that your chuck wraps the staff and you're not able to grab the other end before your chucks are ripped from your grip. I think the only potentially effective strategy for nunchucks is as you describe - rushing in to get a strike as fast as possible. Any prolonged fight will just go poorly for the nunchuck user. The problem is, unless you've literally pulled off a sneak attack on a guy who didn't know you were fighting, the bo has a dozen ways of taking you out if you just rush in. Nunchucks are just a bad weapon. Cool for movie fighting, but that's it really.

Well the thing is, a bo staff is literally just a stick. You can use it how it was intended site, but you can also hold it like a baseball bat and just fuckin whack stuff with it. Nunchaku however are more intended to be a training apparatus, to improve hand eye coordination and reaction speed. Although they can definitely be used as one in the right hands, they aren’t really made to be used as an offensive item. Great video though, it’s always fun to see how your favorite Martial Arts movies would probably pan out in real life
@greenpixel5562 жыл бұрын
you are doing wrong pose with nuncuks , also wrong deflection angles, if those are not foam, you will do more harm to yourself rather than to your enemy, with nunchuks agains bow, you need to engage in shorter distance and try grabbing a bo, while using your legs to inflict damage. i have nunchuks with lead filament, what I normally do if fighting against wooden bo, I just brake it apart. The advantage of nunchuks is speed, so you need to rely on really quick double attack's, also blocks followed by attack at same time. The examples shown here shows ideal engagement distance for bo and not nunchuks. I would say placing your self 3x closer will be win win condition for nunchuks. Also i don't see good fluid motion for individuals using nunchucks in this video. Sorry being negative, but i practiced nunchuks for a really long time and just see a lacking potential here. Nunuchuks are really hard to master, but in the end, they have really good concealment, and still probably best pocket defensive weapon.

I dunno, seeing the teacher with the nunchucks, who clearly knows what he's doing, getting dominated by his student with the bo staff kinda tells you everything you need to know about the effectiveness of nunchucks. Anytime he tried to do anything remotely unique with the nunchucks it went poorly against the bo staff just coming straight in and wrecking havoc. He was even effectively disarmed once when the chucks wrapped around the end of the staff - all with no threat to the staff user. Nunchucks are clearly just sticks but worse (with like, one new unique strike for every 5 strikes and blocks it can no longer do - real bad trade).

@@jeffwells641 Touching someone with a foam bow is not actually hurting them or winning in a real fight. In a real fight, the swing from the bow will have to be more than a touch to stop a person darting in with nunchucks.

This is old but back in my younger more stupid days my friends and I would meet up to spar. On one occasion, one brought nun-chuku while I brought my jo not plastic foam, the real things. I control the out by being aggressive with parries and thrust. He couldn't get a swing in because I would disrupt it. I didn't wait for him to swing so I would block as seen in this video. Imagine getting smacked in the fingers using those blocks. So twirling nun-chuku's is out. I'd recommend keeping it chambered, striking out when the opportunity presents itself, block if need, but return to a chambered position ready to lash out. There's a rebound effect when the nun-chucks are hit. Hard to control.

guy with chuck against girls with bo staff, in a real - anything can happen real harsh street fights, have a advantage when in close because if the girl has medium to long hair and the chucks are chains then they can tangle the girls hair in the chain somewhat easily and then have some control of their head or cause some serious pain pain and bleeding and blood in their face by pulling hair out, which is the main reason why women in the military have to keep short hair. in a unexpected fight girls or guys with long hair dont have the time usually to tie their hair and get it out of the way. and a girl getting hit in the critch with a bo staff and gonna hurt nearly as much as a guy getting hit in the crotch - which is alot more difficult to do with chuck than bo staff. a bo staff broken it half still has a lot of reach and would be splinter making its end sorta like a sword also and so still dangerous but a chain strong broken on nunchukcs give the user only about 3-8 inches of weapon extension from their hand and so is less much dangerous broken in half. close in nunucks have many uses but bostaff have few. i perfer to have a bo staff like a pool cue in bag where it screws in half so i put in together or take it apart and half two short sticks depending on how much space i have and the weapons of the guys im fighting. however i really like spinning LED or fire chuckies more than any other weapon.

I'm a martial arts enthusiasts but in real fight its a whole lot different! Not that I hate these martial artists in the video but come on, it's like they're playing...sparring is also different than this...Example if someone know how to use nunchaku and the opponent uses a bo staff I'm not sure that the bo staff can block it. Nunchaku has more power and hurts more, Imagine someone hits you in the hands, elbow, shin or head... Goodluck with that! 😎 🇵🇭

Feel like for Nunchucks, one has to switch his position when moving from offensive to defensive. While for a bo, the swtich is easy. Unless one can switch between the two for a Nunchuck cleverly and quickly while attacking or blocking... the guy with the bo is clearly the winner!

Nunchuck is actually a very dangerous weapon in real fight. I've seen a pro using a steel nunchuck to strike and break in half a wooden bo (with a person holding it to block the strike) in a blink of an eye. He was jumping and spinning very fast so the hit from nunchuck was extremely powerful. So in real fight I believe Nunchuck will win in this battle because.... obviously you can't use steel bo because it's too heavy :) Plus, one fast hit from wooden bo in real life to your body may not knock you down. BUT one fast hit from steel nunchuck, to anywhere on your body will be... game over. (to your head = dead for sure)
