I disagree about the web site configurator. If the company goes out of business or stops supporting the board/web site, you will never be able to adjust the keyboard. With downloadable configurator software you will never loose that ability.

@@dalriada842My father can't even touch type at all, yet for all his working life, he still insisted on IBM keyboards. One needn't even be a competent typist to appreciate a quality keyswitch. The company he worked for from the early 80s into the 00s (auto parts) used a system/360 and then an AS/400, and was an all-IBM shop beyond that, also. They had a comprehensive contract with IBM, and so there was a warehouse bin just filled with model Ms. Over the years, he'd just bring one home now and then. After he left the job, we had a family keyboard depot, lol. That lasted for years, but spills and rotting and whatnot happens, and eventually one day the well ran dry. That is when I found this channel and fell down the rabbit hole, and now I have a new model F and my wallet is so happy haha. My father now uses some chintzy rubber dome keyboard, and I asked him "What happened?!?!?" And he sighed and said, "I guess I'm getting soft in my old age" lol.

From the typing test: it seems like it has the same problem as my Wooting: it bottoms out pretty harsh. I get sore hands when using that for any medium to long time. For me reason to entirely switch away from linears. That's not a huge critique for a gaming keyboard, but the issue is that I use one keyboard and one keyboard only. Combine that with powertoys OCR using win+shift+t for text copying from images and the printscreen button is useless.

At the dawn of 2025, I would like to see Windows keys relabelled as Win/Super to acknowledge the growing use of alternative OSes. Not a fan of the plastic shell, and the layout switch looks quite cheap (and appears , at least visually, like it would be prone to breakage) A brushed aluminium shell would be stunning. At first glance the keyboard looks quite cramped, and although I learned to type 40 years ago on a TI-99/4A, I prefer to see the keys afforded a larger overall footprint to accomodate my pudgy fingers. I would have liked to have seen the G-Keys moved to a row above the F-keys. The ones below the spacebar would prove especially problematic, as my lower thumb/palm tends to lay in this position. Finally, although I understand that minimalism is the point of the design, I cannot functtion productively without a numeric keypad. I type in multiple languages, and although I have a multilingual keyboard for french and english, I make extensive use of alt-key codes for other laguages/symbols that are not available through the CTL keys. This requires a numeric keypad. The macro keys and multiple layouts only provide a partial solution. I am looking to replace a Corsair K100 with cherry MX switches, where the charging port has become unreliable, but I don't think this is it.

Unde utilisation of the thumb?
@xaytana14 күн бұрын
@@Zaphodox This is exactly why. This isn't the first board to do it. People just don't like subtle change, even if it improves productivity. Arguably the origin of this goes back to when certain laptops would have their trackpad keys between space and the pad, the oldest I know of doing this was the Mac PowerBook, and IBM popularized this layout (though it's also arguably the best layout when all you have is a TrackPoint) to the point that even modern Lenovo ThinkPads still have this layout; I also remember some '90s split layout keyboards with a center trackball having something similar, though the closest probably would've been keys/buttons on the inside of the split spaces. And modernly, fully split keyboards have thumb clusters that provide more utilization for the thumb; Dygma has an interesting splitable keyboard that splits the wide space bar into four keys with four sub-space keys, their main selling point with this is reallocating keys with layers to free the pinkies from so many keys and so much movement. I don't have large hands but even my thumbs and comfortably rest 1.5u to 2u below the space row, so I don't see why anyone would really complain; though this also depends on board height, key height, key profiles, and if there's a wrist rest or not, very chunky boards have less of a gap where I can comfortably rest my thumbs, but on a very slim chiclet board I could probably increase this gap by nearly +1u. With an Alice-like splayed layout, you could better refine sub-space and outer-space layout utilization; and of course, a full split would provide full thumb clusters. But again, people don't like change; for example split ergos have been shown to be better in nearly every aspect of keyboard use, but people won't relearn a keyboard because they dislike change, the adjustment isn't even that inherently difficult when the issue nearly always lies in a person's psychology.

8khz is horrible as a gaming "feature", a lot of game engines do not like it for either mouse or keyboard. You get all kinds of strange behavior, like stuttering, framerate drops when moving the mouse or pressing keys, and even odd skips and changes in mouse speed if it's a mouse that is running at 8khz. 8khz is a gimmick plain and simple, 1khz was already more than fast enough considering most games don't run at 1000fps, which would be what they need to do for that 1khz to even be near a limiting factor.
