Shame on any NP/PA who even has the audacity to consider taking a position paying $35/hr. That's a joke! I made $45/hr as an emergency room RN in San Antonio, Texas. Not only does it hurt them, but it also hurts every other mid-level provider, by bringing down the market pay for all of us! Great videos. Keep it up.

I make more than the high end as a fulltime RN with full benefits. That pay for an NP is rediculously low.

Great video. Piggybacking off of this, could you make a video speaking on the different compensation models? Salary vs RVU vs collections pros and cons. I know a little bit, but would like to get a better understanding from a provider
@ahmedmirza34583 жыл бұрын
Hey Jay, to be honest my experience has mainly been salary based. We get some RVU based income but it's kinda complicated. Essentially procedures and high acuity pts bring higher RVU and thus higher pay. I don't know the exact details. I've never worked a job that pays by collections. But that can potentially generate higher revenue but generally takes at least a year to build up a practice. Nice part is you can form your own LLC and get a lot of tax deductions.

Ahmed, I love watching your videos! They are very informative, and your rather objective when discussing topics. I’m in the process of becoming a CNA to start getting experience. However, the “saturation” aspect of the NP profession is somewhat concerning. I’m applying to a BSN school program this fall in hopes of getting in next year. My main goal is to become an NP though. I’m hoping the saturation won’t continue to increase where wages are severely impacted. Even with today’s climate. Would still recommend going for an NP program?
@ahmedmirza34583 жыл бұрын
I'd say work as an RN and figure out what you enjoy doing. If you still like a certain NP field then go for it. FNP is pretty saturated so I'd recommend doing a fellowship.

Since NPs have full practice authority in many states, do you think Urgent Care centers prefer NPs over PAs? Are PAs losing their jobs to NPs ?
@ahmedmirza34582 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the state. I've seen some prefer NPs and some prefer PAs. I don't think PA are "losing" jobs to NPs though.

In the Pacific Northwest we make way more than that.

I bet! I'm in the Midwest, but I noticed pay can vary drastically even from City to City. That's why I recommend people have as many interviews as they can to compare different offers.

I found your video to be extremely beneficial! Can you please talk about job satisfaction and work/life balance as an FNP? Also, as an FNP, do you feel your work is meaningful in light of the current corporatized practice environment (e.g., litigious, “treadmill medicine”, etc.)? Do you feel you get to spend enough time with patients? Thank you for your insights!!
@ahmedmirza34583 жыл бұрын
Hi Omar! Job satisfaction and work life balance I think is very job specific. It will vary depending on what area you work in. In general NPs have a good work like balance. Family practice is usually 8-5 Mon-Fri and less stress. Urgent care and ER and usually more stressful but you only work 3-4 days a week. I've worked in multiple different specialties and being able to see and treat my own patients has always been very satisfying. In family practice you get to spend 15-20mins with each pt but urgent care is usually less. In general yes I feel like my job is still meaningful even in corporate medicine. Sometimes you do get a feel that it's all about the bottom line when working for corporate but not always.

@@ahmedmirza3458 Assalamualaikum Br. Ahmed! Thank you so much for your reply! I do appreciate your honesty. I am currently an FNP student and debating whether or not medicine is still for me. Your insight is very helpful in informing my decision. I really appreciate your content, and believe you add tremendous value to the world. Thanks for sharing all of your experiences! They are very helpful in guiding other future healthcare professionals, like myself. Please continue making more videos!! Wishing you only the best!

@@ahmedmirza3458 Another quick question: If you could do it all over again, would you still become an FNP? And, if you weren’t practicing medicine, what career would you have pursued instead?
@ahmedmirza34583 жыл бұрын
@@omarullah8895 wa'alikum as'salaam Br Omar. That's a heavy loaded question. Do I like my job... Yes. I do have other interests but overall I think family practice fits my personality well. I don't like some of the politics and over saturation issue. Mainly due to the loose requirements for FNP school. Med school and CRNA are also good options. But everything has it's pros/cons. There's a lot you can do as an FNP, it's just tough as a new grad.

Can you make a video of why you chose this specialty ? Also do you think there is a big difference between PA and NP in terms of finding a job ? Are both really saturated ?
@ahmedmirza34583 жыл бұрын
I have a video about a day in the life of urgent care. Check that out, at the end I talk about what I like about urgent care. It seems like both PA and NP is pretty saturated. First job is the hardest then it gets easier to find jobs once you have experience.

You should be making 200k a year by year 5. If not YOU are the problem with our industry. Let me repeat. If YOU are not making 200k by year 5, YOU are the problem. I could tell you exactly who are the NPs taking these jobs for 35 a hour but it wouldn’t politically correct.
@mr.ssj38473 жыл бұрын
Can you just open up your own urgent care. Since nps can be independent?
@ahmedmirza34583 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. Depends on the state. In most full practice states you can. Sometimes insurance companies still give you a hard time with reimbursements if there is no collaborating MD/DO.
