I'm a doula and always tell my clients about PPA and how it's not just don't touch my baby or I'm nervous to be a mom and about the intrusive thoughts. I can't even drive by water without thinking we are going overboard. PPA is just not talked about enough. I am so glad you mentioned it!!

I was warned I was at risk of developing PPD or PPA due to obstetric history and having a preemie when my son was born, but I didn't realize it until much later, and I passed the questionnaire probably because I felt things were for "good reason" like you said. I had PPA. I used to stay up watching the monitor until I got so tired I couldn't stay awake anymore. I worried so much about something happened to him while I slept, and I was trying to make that time shorter. It probably sounds silly, but it felt vital at the time to keep that vigil every night.

Oh, thank you for this. I developed an absolute fear of sex at about 14 months post partum. That our birth control would fail, and I would be stuck back in this horrible never ending moment of failing another child and unable to handle the anxiety and stress... living in Germany, I felt horrible, and didn't see I had PPD and anxiety. No one really brought it to my attention, just 'normal stress' as a new mom. So I went on. Went nearly two years before asking for help. ❤

Something I've seen - plenty of people on the internet say pelvic floor dysfunction isn't normal and is treatable, but in real life there's no actual resources. There may be some parts of the world where "talk to your doctor" and "get pelvic floor PT" is actionable advice, but for most of us, we're just lucky to get a 6-week follow up appointment with our OB at all - there's just too many people and not enough doctors, let alone pelvic floor PTs.

I love that you did this video. I had trouble with feeding my prem girl, and being postpartum with hormones and sleep deprivation amplifies every intrusive thought and anxious impulse!

Yes, queen! Thank you for this video! I was so unprepared for postpartum with my first. Now, with this pregnancy, I've been reading so much on how to prepare for postpartum. Please do more videos on postpartum!

Thank you for even mentioning postpartum rage. I’ve now had three babies and only learned it was a thing in the last year from a tiktok! I think learning more about it could benefit soooo many people, especially with more than one child, and help with the guilt a lot of people who are dealing with it unknowingly are suffering through

I felt desperately bonded to my babies that made me anxious about everything - especially intrusive thoughts about the SIDS education we got at the hospital. Would sit and watch them sleep, weeping and self loathing if I fell asleep while I was watching them.

Elizabeth, your openness and vulnerability in this video may dramatically improve someone's life, and their family's as well. It may even save a life. Bless you for that! If someone like you, with all your training and resources can suffer from a PMAD, it can happen to anyone.

I developed PPD and PPA after my first was born. My mind was so sick that I didn't recognize something was wrong. I obsessed over sleep, SIDS, my milk supply, I had horrible intrusive thoughts (some being suicidal), and I would become so angry so easily. My husband finally urged me to make an appointment with my OB and when she came in the exam room I just broke down. She saw immediately what I couldn't and connected me with the help I needed. I had so much anxiety though, so I didn't take the meds they prescribed me and looking back now, I probably should have to help me recover more quickly. Back then I thought this was my new life and I just had to deal with it and stop being so "dramatic." I know now that my experience then was a result of my PPD and PPA and as I plan for my next child I will definitely let my OB know what I went through with my last child and educate my husband and family so that they can intervene for me if needed. It breaks my heart looking back at my daughter's life and seeing that my memories of her first year is marred by my mental illness.

My provider did not give me a 6 week in person postpartum follow up appointment. I got a 3 week poster video appointment. This is my first pregnancy so when i asked why she said that they don't do 6 week follow up appointments unless I'm bleeding heavily, have pain or not healing right. She normalized everything. Pelvic floor issues and desperation of the abdomen all normal according to her and should go away within time.

Do you have any advice on the hatred some women feel towards themselves at the end of pregnancy? Not just about their changed body but also the changes that the brain has gone through as well.
