I was prescribed Valium for mild opiate withdrawals and they have worked extremely well, knowing I have Valium at the ready actually makes me feel more at ease. I don't care about all the negative stigma with this drug it's a miracle drug when used correctly

I have a question, I can't find the answer anywhere. Can I take my GABA supplement and 5htp supplements whilst using my diazepam? It's seems like it would be a no, however I've read that GABA does not cross the blood brain barrier. I supplement these for the relief of my anxiety and to help with sleep.

Hi, that's a good question! You're right, it's difficult to find the answer out there. Because Diazepam enhances the effects of GABA, I would definitely recommend speaking to your primary healthcare provider before taking it alongside GABA supplements. As for whether or not GABA crosses the blood brain barrier, I would recommend reading the "Blood-Brain Barrier Permeability" section from "Neurotransmitters as food supplements: the effects of GABA on brain and behavior" (doi: 10.3389/fpsyg.2015.01520) for some good info. @@NurseRyan most of them don’t want to take you off even after years of use even if the patient wants to wean off. It is called job security as you have to return for refills at least every 6 months. In the 60’s that was called “the pusher man.”

From what I have read, Diazepam is not formally recognized as an antihypertensive medication. However, Diazepam is known to lower blood pressure, and can be used in some cases of hypertensive crisis. It is not 100% understood how Diazepam lowers blood pressure. It has been shown that Diazepam reduces muscle sympathetic nerve activity, but does not reduce heart rate. Diazepam may help to lower blood pressure short-term by reducing anxiety, as it is a benzodiazepine. All that being said, I always recommend speaking to your primary healthcare provider for any actual medical advice, as these videos are meant for educational purposes only. Hope that helps!
