looks like sugarplum could be any hard candy after all! who knew?!? "A sugar plum originated as a piece of dragée or hard candy made of hardened sugar in a small round or oval shape. "Plum" in the name of this confection does not always mean plum in the sense of the fruit of the same name, but commonly refers to small size and spherical or oval shape." from Wikipedia

About edible flowers, here in France we have violets (and rose petals) preserved in crystalized sugar, it comes from the city of Toulouse, it is delicious. It is also possible to eat nasturtium (capucine in French) in a salad, it has a slight peppery taste, and add some orange sparks to the greenery ........

You can also eat daylily flowers, not to confuse with actual lilies, though, because the latter are toxic. And you never ever! eat anything that you haven't grown in your own garden, because the flowers might have been treated with pesticides. Which you can't wash totally off!

Chocolate and marzipan are my favorites, and sometimes they come together! Marzipan (mazapán) in Spain doesn’t usually have bitter almonds, so you don’t have the medicinal taste, but it’s also delicious, it’s a Christmas sweet. Love, Sol

This year, in my ballet company's production of the nutcracker we actually took more on the candy side of the land of sweets! So we actually had caramel instead of coffee. For tea, we had teacups and saucers. Chocolate was ballet folklorico dance. Marzipan was a carousel with horses and a maypole. Instead of polichinelles we had bon bon ginger bread girls who came out of a shoe. We did candy canes with hoop tricks. It was really cool to see you guys taste the different sweets 😋 ❤ I love your content!

We used to have Marzipan shaped like fruits every Christmas when I was a kid in the 1960's and 70's, but I haven't seen any in a long time. I think that snack isn't common anymore. My nieces grew up in Hawaii, and their dad was Asian, so they introduced me to the salted plums (Li hing mui, which they pronounce lee-hee-moy). They LOVE them, but for me, they definitely took getting used to. They grow on you. I'll have to try a sweet plums some day. Coffee also takes getting used to, it'll grow on you. Coffee is my most favorite thing in the entire world, and there are so many kinds. It sounds like your barista didn't give you a nice smooth coffee for a first-timer. There are some that aren't very bitter at all, or smokey like a campfire. Fun video about Nutcracker goodies! Happy Holidays to you.

I know the video is over, but for flowers, you really have to try candied violets sometime. I can't believe you left the coffee so long to taste... it's probably a dark roast, especially if you got a latte, and if you reheated it, that can increase the burnt taste. But there are so many different kinds of coffee, with lots of different roasting levels, bitterness levels (the darker the roast, the more bitter), and preparations. You might prefer a lighter roast, for example! I don't actually drink coffee anymore, but just want to say, don't swear off coffee based on that one experience. Happy holidays!
@oxoelfoxo Жыл бұрын
where does one even get candied violets?! they don't grow where i live so i'm sure there aren't any here. but rose petals (if not sprayed with pesticides and such), butterfly pea and nasturtium are edible flowers

And loved this video! So fun to watch☺️

You live in a box?? 🎁📦🍱 Off-topic, but your hair gleams so nicely in the sunlight! 3:35 and 8:40 What are the titles of these music pieces, please? Your video editor is absolutely brilliant! I figure it is probably somebody other than the two of you, because they included the part about Eden singing that very cute song (was this ad-libbed? If so, Eden is a genius!) and then the words "fight me :-) " flashed on the screen. The running goose (ha!) theme + honk sound effect are such a nice touch! 🪿 Marzipan is used in many German Christmas treats! (I left a more detailed description in a reply to this comment.) The gingerbread that Germans eat is lighter and more airy than the dense consistency we have in North America. It's called "Lebkuchen" - they are usually chocolate-covered or glazed treats. The Dutch have delicious spiced cookies, which are more similar to North American gingerbread. They are called "Speculaas." Highly recommend you try these German and Dutch confections! They tend to be available in major chain supermarkets these days and many European delis stock them as well. Or you can just go to Europe! Yeah, coffee does not improve with age. Tim Hortons used to have commercials that they brewed a fresh pot every 20 minutes so that no customer would ever be served stale coffee. So that staleness might be part of why Jordan didn't like the taste. But it is normal to have the taste linger in the mouth even when it is fresh. It was very brave of both of you to try coffee for the first time! 🤩 Thank you very much for taking us along on your Nutcracker Suite Sweets Safari! 🍭🍫 Very merry Christmas to all of you 🩰Ballet 🌧️Reign 🦌Dears, your family and your friends, and your subscribers and viewers, who should definitely become subscribers! 🙏🎁🎄⛄️🎶🧸💫

Marzipan! This seems to be more well-known in the UK than in North America. There are disputes as to its actual origin, but the Baltics are a center of production. The German city of Lübeck is very proud of its authentic marzipan (guaranteed 2/3 almonds). There are different candy types available, which are usually chocolate-covered. There's also uncovered (?) marzipan usually formed into cute shapes. My fave is pigs! 🐽 "Stollen" is roughly equivalent to English Christmas pudding in that they are cake-adjacent, contain candied fruit and raisins, and are aged for ideally four weeks before eating. English Christmas pudding is very dense and Stollen less so, although more than North American cake. Stollen are cut like a loaf of bread. Store-bought Stollen often contains a marzipan core - a strip of marzipan throughout the middle of the Stollen. Unfortunately, I can't eat these treats anymore, but I am spreading the word so that others can enjoy them!! 💕🪿🎄🎁⛄️🙏

For the coffee, since I love drinking it, I feel the warm and flavors of coffee really comes through with the music. For the tea, I was thinking if it was a spiced tea maybe that could work with how some of the colors are used in the costumes and I feel black and spiced teas just perk me up and ready to start my day just right. But boba tea is definitely more on point with how the music is. Peppermint is the best. Marzipan is so pretty in person. Flowers: well I found out my local Whole Foods does sell edible flowers packaged. But I do love hibiscus and rose, I have eaten them before.

When I was very young, maybe as young as 3, my parents bought me an LP record of Captain Kangaroo (a tv host of a long-running children's show) presenting the Nutcracker. There were lyrics attached to this recording, and for as long as I can remember, when I hear the Nutcracker music, some of these lyrics come back to me, and I sing along. Mostly I do remember the lyrics for the Russian Dance; and the March of the Toy Soldiers has also stayed with me. Lo and behold, YT has a reproduction of it, which I've downloaded for old time's sake: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5OuqZihfNONi9E When I was about seven, my parents bought me an LP recording of the Boston Pops recording of Swan Lake selections, so Tchaikovsky has been an enduring and beloved presence in my life, thanks to my attentive family!

So I have to comment because I've been obsessed with the sweets in Balanchine's Nutcracker since I was a kid -- Mother Ginger is actually a representative of a box/tin, and the polichinelles were meant to be bonbons, is my understanding! You also, I believe, could have found various marzipan treats at World Market that may have treated you better than the dough from the baking aisle of Krogers. Maybe next time? 😅 I also want to encourage you to give coffee another shot! Maybe in a latte form, or a cafe mocha? I highly recommend trying a bean that is Light or Blonde Roast, as it tastes way less bitter. It just also has the most caffeine, so beware!

I hope those sugared prunes were worth it, because that isn't what sugar plums actually mean in the ballet. Sugar plums are hard sugar balls, often coating a nut, especially almond. They're particularly popular as wedding favours, in all sorts of pastel colours. The Sugar Plum fairy in the French version is called La Fée Dragée, and dragée is the French name for these sugar sweets. The variation makes a bit more sense if you think about pale pink sugar-covered almonds.
