As a 24 year old man who has spent most of his life as a sheltered gamer, this is very meaningful to me . It is a difficult thing to turn your life around to one where responsibility and meaningful pursuits take precedence over enjoyable activities like gaming, and a thing I am still doing to this day. I still love gaming, but I bought my first .22 long rifle pistol early in 2013 at the behest of a friend, and I was hooked on the outdoors like I was on camping trips when I was young. Shortly after buying that pistol, I came into the subscriber base of TNP, and I suppose I have substituted some of the lessons my father didnt teach me with some of the lessons you do teach, Nutn. I love the adventure concept, and the road, and all things metal and wood. I just wish that when I was younger, my father had the time to teach me these lessons I am learning as a young man. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, he was able to instill only lessons pertaining to work ethic, the business world, and the values that the work place requires. He instilled in me extremely powerful work ethic. I probably messed things up whining on our hunting trips as a kid, or complaining in the back seat on long drives north to St. Helen, MI. I'm trying to reconnect with my father through some of the things I've learned in your videos. Its videos like these that make me love TNP. Not the reviews, which are fun, but these truly meaningful lessons that, as you said before, help guide a young man on his journey further into adultood, and maybe one day into being a dad who can provide a more well-rounded upbringing to a son or daughter. Thank you, Nutn, for continuing to make a real difference in the life of this subscriber. TNP nation for life.

You're not alone my friend. I too did not have the best father in the world. He was a troubled man and I seriously feel sorry for him. His life wasn't pleasant and may he rest in peace. But the result is that I also grew up without the lessons that Nutns father taught him and he is now teaching his kids and us. My mom made sure I turned out a decent human being, but It's never to late to learn more.

I'm in a similar situation. I lost my father when I was only 1 and so i've grown up without one. I haven't been able to do really any of the things that most kids are able to do and I'm ok with that. I'm ok with it because I know by watching videos like this that not only am i substituting the knowledge that I was left without but also in knowing that I can teach my kids these lessons in the future

You did it again Nutn. You really provide a huge service to us TNP'rs. I'm that guy you mentioned, in my 40's, hard job that sucks, not creating memories for my family because I'm always working or sleeping. Wish I had a dad like you and/or yours. Things would certainly be different. Thanks for putting me on the right path brother. I'm making plans for a camping trip as soon as I'm done writing this comment. Thank you brother!

+jerdog3 Here's an update. The very next day I took my wife and 4 year old girl to Vasquez Rocks (an awesome place where they filmed a ton of space movies and TV shows because it looks like you're on another planet). We had such a fun family adventure! Rock climbing, exploring the desert, hunting for bugs and lizards...Just a great family day. Normally I would have slept until about 4pm (I work the nightshift), but this was such a great decision. The first of many! Thanks again Nutin!

Good for you man, your still going to be young enough to do some pretty kick ass stuff with your kid/kids when they grow old enough to do adventurous activities, my almost six yr old boy is a handful man, at 36 I can still keep up but I often wonder how much easier it would be if I had him earlier... Loading up the drift trikes ( big boy big wheels) in about 10 min to go make some memories with the boy... Take full advantage of every moment !

Growing up my parents didn't have any adventures. Dad was a workaholic with Vietnam PTSD. Mom is a overbearing protectionist. Both where very religous. Anytime growing up that I came to them for life advice I was told to just pray about it. I had to figure the world out on my own. I had to learn how to use dangerous things on my own or seek help elsewhere. Once I discovered the mountains I fell in love. Most of my family has done everything they can to discourage my adventures no matter how tame. I envy your upbringing and your children's upbringing. I love your philosophy and story videos. Thanks for taking the time to share with us.

Ed Essary I didn't say those things to make me sound worse or better then anyone else. I was just simply stating that I wasn't able to gain any passions in life untill I was out on my own. I don't have any kids at the moment. I'm still looking for a woman that shares at least some of my passions. I'd rather be single then end up living the life my parents did. In the end both had less then perfect childhoods and we survived. Now that we survived it's time to live.

I have heard this before but you really worded it well. I myself was very addicted to video games. It really can keep you from learning so much and experiencing life! Then one day I just realized what I was missing out on, family, relationship with God, friends, learning skills, and just making real memories. I sold all by video game stuff and got back into running, shooting, backpacking, working, and just living life. Now I am running my first 50 mile race in november, I worked hard enough at my last job to start my own little business, my relationship with my family is strong once again, I am going to be leading a youth group at my church next year, and overall I am living life again! I know this video is not just about video games, it was just an example. The principles you mentioned in this vid are truly some words to live by!

Nutn, not everyone will get this video but I sure do. While I have only a few memories like this with my own father for many reasons I sure have been building them with my daughters. I loved the story about your father warming your feet on his stomach. What an incredible memory that I would have loved to have. But I did the next best thing this summer when my 11 year old had some cold feet on our summer adventure and I remembered your story and held her feet to my stomach. Thanks for the idea and for sharing your heart in this video. To the dudes that don't get this video.... I feel sorry for you. To the other dads out there: the top thing your kids need is your time. Period. Everything else is second.

I am sorry to hear that and I have many friends in the same boat. I guess all I can say is you have a fresh start with yourself and your family no matter your background. I have plenty of pain in my upbringing too like when my mom and dad used to have knock down drag out fights. But I just take away the good and build on that. A strong father figure is key to have a well balanced adult.

Raised 6 kids, Three military boys, and one of the gals was a starting player on a National Championship winning team in a rather risky sport. This video is SO dead on. Can't tell you how many times I told the kids, my job is making memories.... They all rode dirt bike's, three raced. Had horses too. Hunting, Fishing, Camping in Colorado & Medicine Bow National Forest in Wyoming was a past time we did to build memories... They all come back now with stories of those memories....and thank you for the memories in video you have built!

Nutn I just want to say you have the tightest youtube family/audience, almost no one fights with fellow subs and we all share similar values. And I agree with the video game thing. I was BIG on games a year or two ago and I am now more into guns a and motor vehicles thanks to my dad, family friend, and you. I was like I am now until video games got ahold of me for a few years. And I'm only 15.

Very well said. Personally I enjoy gaming. I've never been a console guy, just PC since PCs are so much more capable, but regardless most of the games I play have really good plots and story lines just because I like storytelling in nearly any form. Games like COD or BF are pretty useless and boring. Some people like them, but they're not for me. Books, movies, video games are all great forms of storytelling. Anyway, it is good to see the younger generations going out and trying these things as well. I wouldn't give up video games altogether, but you do have to keep everything balanced and in moderation. Last thing though. I doubt anyone with bad intentions would be looking at this page, but you should try and withhold from releasing your age freely on the internet bud, especially when you are that young. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Thanks Vincent and that was a great comment. You are right, TNP is a high quality audience with similar values and when we disagree it's usually no big deal. Vid games can be xlnt if used in moderation and in social occasions. Oh yeah...about living in alternate realities...you're absolutely right! Too many people are like Jason Alexander's character in Brad Paisley's music video, Online. My ways of thinking about life have drastically changed from watching your videos and I am very grateful for the time you have spent putting them out there for us. I don't think I will forget this video.... and yes I watched and listened to every single minute of it. Thank you. I have kinda been scared to become a dad because not having one. I am an avid Airsofter, and firearm enthusiast. I love the hobby, and it has kept me going through my hard times as a teenager. It has given me something to work toward, something to look forward to in my free time. I have created a well respected figure in the community, and I pride myself in that ability. I've had plenty of seemingly sucky experiences already, but I can tell you I remember those the best. My best friends dad, whom I grew up with, always used to say. Excellent video. It got me thinking about my youth........a very long time ago: I didn't have a father in my life as a young guy and learned most of my risk skills after spending my time in the military. However, motorcycling was the exception.....riding bikes since I was 17 since I didn't have the money for a car. It led to a 20 year career in the motorcycle industry. And, after my son was born, I made sure to introduce him to many of the things I missed out on.....hiking, camping, etc. Without a doubt, it brought us together as a family and helped teach my boy how to become a decent human being and productive in his own life. I know how much he appreciates what his parents did for him and what he did for us.

I too in my youth hated when my dad taught me basic mechanics. However when I grew older and was of age to own my own car I found the value of such lessons to be invaluable. I found a passion, and as a means to end in my passion for building a faster car I learned what I could about fixing cars.... Video games do have their purpose just as you have said and sometimes are a good substitute for those who are not great at social interaction..... Wasn't until I have found my passion for going fast that I was able to break out and adapt socially.

My Dad grew up during the great depression and he never had what I call fun. He worked his ass off though, WWII vet, spent 25 years in the Navy then got another job. Its a challenge for me to have fun. I would love to get into firearms, however I live in Commiefornia, and don't have the money to move. However I am retooling my life and pursuing my passion finally. I've also started volunteering at a bike co-opt, because I want to be able to fix my bicycle and maybe help others to do the same. I love fixing and building things. I think it would be awesome to teach college history, be able to fix/build stuff (I did IT work a about 7 years,) and be an academic as well. Great video. You and your Dad have an awesome mindset.

Awesome vid. Thanks Nutn. I have a three year old boy who is currently way fearless and it's been hard for me to determine what the appropriate boundaries are/should be for his development. "Have fun, but don't destroy yourself" is perfect.

The base jump story reminds me of your story, of not strapping in completely on a training flight. One small lapse is all that is needed. You must decided when the double check is minimum preparation.Thank you for sharing, teaching, learning and living. Tom

Thanks for the stories about your father. I could not agree with you more about spending time with your children in the great outdoors. Doing so creates closeness and also memories that they will never forget. The overwhelming memory in my mind about my oldest brother that passed away ten years ago is of the day we went boating on a crystal clear lake and caught a bounty of red ear sunfish. Perhaps, I subscribe too much to the ideology of Henry David Thoreau but if you aren't spending time in nature there will always be something missing in your life. God created a wonderful playground for us to roam in and there is nothing man made that compares to the beauty of nature.

As always great video Nutn! It was very touching to see you get emotional about the memories that you made with your Dad. I was lucky enough to make great memories with my Dad when I was a kid. Glad to see Last Suspect is getting into motorcycles! Love the SV 650S.....what a GREAT first bike, I had the exact same bike (same color too) as my first bike! Hope it serves him well. Keep the awesome videos coming!

I'm 17 and I was driving my 89 Jeep wrangler the other day and went around a curve about 35 mph and my back left wheel with the rod still bolted to the wheel just slipped out. I was as calm as you can be during that situation and stopped it perfectly in the road. I'm fine and fixing my Jeep right now. My Jeep is risky but I love it
