I've had one of these for many, many years. Nothing at all wrong with it except for the issue you have highlighted regarding the play in the quill. I don't want to throw it out so I will be very interested in part 2 to see what sort of solution you came up with. Thanks for posting - nice one !!

Hi. Ive got the same drill press and also noticed the play when I drilled something, it used to wander slightly... Looking fwd to part 2 to see if you remedied that

I have just bought one and stripped it out and i changed all the bearings and that seems to have made it tighter , I can tell you what the bearing numbers are if you want to change them yourself in advance

Did you have a look at what was causing the play in the quill as I have the exact same one with the same play

Hey, the bore in the casting for the quill was oversized. Have a look at part 2 for a relatively easy fix.

I just picked on up for £20, so not much to lose. The drilling head seems to be seized onto the column. The upper grub screw is fine, but the lower one completely seized. Looks like I'll have to drill that out, tap it and use a bolt.

Hi there. I recently acquired this drill from my late father. I was wondering if you know of anywhere i can find a user manual for it? Or if you could help me out directly.. Do you know if i can use a 40mm forstner or spade bit on this machine?..and if so, at what speed/belt nunber should I use it at? Thankyou for any advice you may have

Hi Kevin, here's a link to a user manual: www.tooled-up.com/Artwork/ProdPDF/33662ins.pdf . It's not the exact same make/model but I think it's the same drill apart from the naming. You're probably pushing the limits of the machine with a 40mm Forstner bit - I would use the slowest spindle speed and make sure the work piece is well secured before you start drilling.

Hi, I have one almost identical except it’s made in China. I noticed your Chuck popped right off but mine won’t . I tried pounding with a wood shaft but it don’t budge. Any other ideas on how to remove the Chuck? Thanks

@@alleyoop5185 a 10mm nut or coupler nut in the chuck and then a 10mm bolt, works like a press and 100% result.

I got one of these and my on off switch doesn’t wort the on button won’t stay on,any advice would be much appreciated

Bummer! Couldn't you just braze the cracked cast iron assembly and then just fettle in bore inside to receive the bearing? Pity, looked a promising project.
