I must question why when in the hospital due to a cancer (3rd time over 26 years and this one result of radiation that was necessary) the food on the tray was ensure products that list corn fructose as the first ingredient. I couldn't make myself take it in bc I felt I was defeating all that my surgeon and nurses had done. Not to mention all the pain I went through. Who is making the decision at the hospital kitchen--there are other options--but ensure must be making it worth it to the hospital entities? Kickbacks perhaps.
@cynthiaconroy49242 жыл бұрын
@@J.o.e_K I so agree. I cannot even force myself to donate it to somewhere because I feel if I won't consume it then why would it be okay for somebody else. There are so many other healthy options. And while I understand that people might not be eating well that still doesn't overcome that this stuff is not what I would consider nutrition. I think I will just tell folks I am allergic to it or something. Glad I am not alone in thinking these ingredients aren't good for consumption!!
If you can get a loved one to bring you more nutritional food while in the hospital and the doctor approves it. Do it. You have control over what you consume. There are times when it is not wise to eat certain things. For ex, orange juice/grapefruit juice interferes with some oral medications etc. it is ultimately your choice consume something other than the dairy, sweet tea and white bread on that tray as long as it doesn’t exacerbated your issue and doc says it’s ok. The food that is given is “safe” which is understandable but I wish they would hire someone to really take each individual patient’s nutritional needs.

That’s so true, also for Germany. The diet in hospitals is outrageous unhealthy, white bread, jam, butter, fatty sausage cold cuts, starchy sauces and noodles, Joghurts with loads of sugar. Just to match a mass-taste, made from canteen convenience products. No fresh salads and nuts. Money makes the decisions for Hospital diet. As cheap as possible.

My dad used to drink 4 glasses of freshly squeezed orange juices and 4 glasses of fresh pressed carrot juices everyday; he did a min of 4 hrs of exercises per day and he avoided red meat, fat and processed carbs; he still got lung cancer even though he didn't smoke or drink as he was a health freak. My mom got GIST after my dad passed away and her cancer grew to 4.5lbwithin 4 months! I noticed 4 years later when the cancer spread all over her body, she demanded more and more sugar and carbs, as if she was hooked on it, from what I read, it wasn't really her who wanted the sugar and carbs, it was the cancer that wanted her to eat them. 🙄

They did not abstain from sweets like ice cream, cake, pies ( which my grandma always baked) they would consume moderately or occasionally. They ate eggs (chicken eggs) quite often. Did take a multivitamin, Geritol plus vitamin C and E. Don’t think they even knew what turmeric was although yellow mustard was consumed often. They did eat a lot of vegetables -sometimes over cooked in my opinion. They also ate fish often - cod, flounder sole. Grandpa love to eat a tin of sardines with a shot of cold vodka! Grandma’s favorite snack was marinated pigs feet from a jar-Yecch! Did not smoke, drank alcohol moderately, grandma anyway. Grandma lived to be 97 grandpa 92 but he smoked ciggies in his younger years (until age 70 but not a heavy smoker). grandpa was still fishing bowling and golfing well into his 80sBoth were thin all their lives, never had heart disease, cancer or diabetes. It is more complex that what we know. Oxidative process and diseases related to that as cancer, or others due to oxidation and inflamations does not show up in "the first generation" eating stuff that is not good but in the third or fourth... just do a little research and you will be able to confirm this affirmation. Is like trasgenic wheat... which is something that has being considered food for centuries... but centuries ago the seed and methods of growing where not the same as now... and wheat seeds GMOs are full of fitotoxics in their ADN that will repel and kill predators, the original wheat has nothing like that... our bodies had not dapted to "that kind" of addition, so, will not kill just insects but those toxins will do something to some people that have autoinmune diseases or are sensitive to those "new" compounds... Never ask a person who lives in an Ivory tower how to shop cheaply. Can't afford fish, you got to be kidding me. A can of sardines costs about $0.65 USD in Australia and slightly larger can of mackerel 425gm, 60% fish costs $1.50 USD. Dry beans cost about $3USD per kilo and I think cheaper in the US. As far as organic and all that stuff, just eat fruit and veges that aren't highly processed, frozen mass market produce is completely ok and cheaper than junk food. It's not about price it's about convenience and pleasure. Making excuses for people that it's too hard to avoid the frozen pizza and buy the frozen veges at half the price is just absurd, funnily enough preparing frozen veggies is about the same effort as the frozen pizza.

Frozen veggies are underrated. Most of the time it is frozen sooner on harvesting, comes pre-sliced for convenience. Cheaper than so called 'fresh' produce. I am on Keto and daily intermittent fasting and I have no problems with hunger or fatigue during the day leading up to my dinner. I feel mentally sharp, 90% of the pain from inflammation I had for years before Keto has gone away or is far far less noticeable. My wife loves the way my body looks even at 66 yrs old and I feel great. My blood sugar is normal 'now' and my blood pressure which has caused me to be on meds prior to Keto is now normal or on some occasions only slightly higher than normal. Much better than before. I have cheat days every once in awhile but have no problem going back to Keto right after. There is no perfect answer to living forever. I can only say my eating habit is under control, no urge to keep eating like I do when I am eating carbs, no brain fog, better memory. I see research that shows Keto is best to avoid or deal with dementia because when you have Alzheimers your brain slowly starves to death having lost its ability to feed on Carbs, but has no problem feeding on ketones. In fact, ketones are a better food for your brain. Yes there are some risks to the keto diet, no diet has no drawbacks. But for me I am healthier, sharper, stronger, pain free and feel great on keto. I exercise without pain and have the body and brain of a 30 year old.
@chrishaller84902 жыл бұрын
Very well put. There was some excellent information in this lecture, but the way he brushed off the ketogenic diet by simply saying “carbohydrates are the most important“, without any kind of explanation, showed how closed minded some “scientific“ figures can be. I have also tried a ketogenic diet and found the same benefits as you mention; no brain fog, none of that gnawing “carbohydrate hunger“, tendinitis disappeared, as did dandruff and skin conditions, all of which are symptoms of general inflammation, brought on by a carbohydrate heavy diet. It is not a question of fat versus carbs; it is about a balance. I am no longer in full ketosis, more of a Paleolithic diet, which is low on carbs and avoids all processed foods. The devil is in the details. As the doctor mentions, there is a great distinction between processed carbs, such as bread, pasta, white rice etc. and complex carbohydrates, such as vegetables. This distinction should also be applied to grass fed butter and grass fed meat, which have completely different omega-3/omega-6 profiles from their industrially processed counterparts. All of the meat studies he refers to make no distinction between industrial and grass fed meat. We demonize the food and drug lobbies for their role in the skyrocketing health crisis of chronic, inflammatory-based diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, dementia etc. These are well deserved reputations, but another piece of the puzzle that people are reluctant to admit to is our own willingness to accept what a “doctor“ tells us, without question. Doctors are not gods, they make their own interpretation of whatever they have been told or have read, and many, including Dr. Abrams, are biased, and don’t want to hear any information that goes against their sacred cow. It is up to us to take responsibility for our own health and do the research, to find out what the studies really say, who funded them and who stands to gain by whatever finding they arrive at. Some people will say that they have better things to do, but if somebody told you you could have 10 more years of healthy life that would’ve otherwise been spent in a diseased state, wouldn’t that motivate you to do at least a little research? it is easier to do now than ever, with our access to the Internet. Good luck and best of health to all!

There comes a point where I have to decide whether I value avoiding cancers over enjoying foods I like. Watching videos like this seems to tell me I run a risk consuming just about any kind of food that is not a vegetable, fruit, nut, or fish.
@MeltWithU2 жыл бұрын
This is exactly what I was thinking. Essentially, you live life the way that makes you the happiest. Nobody wants cancer. But I think if you stick to grass fed beef, open Range chicken and eggs and meats that are unprocessed and untouched from butcher to store, you should be OK. Even so, a cheat here and there isn’t going to hurt anybody. I eat one meal a day and I might get a snack of something a time or two throughout the rest of the day. So I don’t really over consume anything. but I have been getting a little bit more conscious about the food that I buy. essentially what the doctor said was that because of the way the food chain has changed over the years, it has less nutrients and more carcinogens. so if we can limit ourselves to the foods we love that are raised the way they originally were, we should be good. I know a 75-year-old man who has consumed bacon pretty much every day of his life. He never had cancer. Sure, he had to have a bypass… Lol. But he is still going strong and still eating bacon after the bypass. I think genes and family history have a lot to do with it also. my mom is the only one in the family that died of cancer, but she smoked since the time she was probably 15 or 16 years old. It was related to that and her lungs. But I don’t know of anybody in my family that got cancer otherwise. My grandma would get skin cancer every once in a while, but it was because she spent so much time outside in the sun. So live your life and just try to stick to food that was raised and packaged naturally, without any additives. It will still taste as good, but you won’t get any of the carcinogens that companies use to preserve and feed these animals. Make them grow faster. The United States has the worst record when it comes to carcinogenic food. Many of the foods that are on our shelves are banned and every other country. That’s not a joke. That should tell you how corporation runs our country as opposed to legislation and the people who elected them into office.

@MeltWithU10 ай бұрын
@@tassi13827 no he gets checked every few years. His wife and his daughter are very good at making sure that he gets to the doctor and gets everything done he needs to. he had to have a quadruple bypass because he ate horribly throughout his life and he still does… but, like I said, he’s 75 years old he deserves to eat whatever the hell he wants. If he goes down with a heart attack and dies then he would’ve been happy before that happened. I don’t think his arteries are going to clog that quickly though. It took him 70 years to the bypass after eating bad for decades. So, I think he’ll be good for another 10 or 20 or however, long he lives. That’s the thing though. As Brian Hill said above, everything in life is essentially a balance. Everything in moderation. Meaning, eat, non-processed food the majority of the time and you can sneak something not so good for you every once in a while. But it isn’t something you want to do on a regular basis. I’ve essentially changed my diet over the past two months to 90% carnivore. Eating steaks and chicken and fish and eggs. Some cheese and some tortilla scoops and the Fridays, spinach, cheese dip, which is one of my favorite things. But it’s not something I eat all of the time. If we only have one to live, we need to live it to its fullest every day. I always say, live every day like it’s your last and love like it’s your very first. As you never know what day may be your last. So you want to make sure that you do everything you want to do and experience everything you want to experience before that day happens. So that when it does, you are satisfied With the life you lived.

Most of this presentation comes across reasonably enough. There is acknowledgement of the roles played by glucose and insulin, and the hazards of sugar in relation to cancer. Then at 35:43 there is curt dismissal of ketogenic diet, with no reason other than it's the speaker's 'least favorite.' This contradiction needs to be explained. Cancer patients deserve better than dismissive, opinion-based non-answers to key questions. We are fighting for our lives, while you are lecturing. I want to see the scientific evidence. And seeds are not as expensive as "organic vegetables" if bought in bulk. If you have time, if the weather is good, and got enough sunlight you may grow some veggies too... try some easy ones, at the begging such as radishes, rocket (cruciferous recommended in this video) , ot lettuces and green onions, eventually you would master it, and will be able to grow almost any vegetable... just looking for the right conditions for each variety to develop healthy and strong. Limiting red meat & eggs without stating why is an error of omission on his part I think. The only reason that modern animal husbandry provides "bad" food for us is because of what they feed these animals. Grass fed, grass finished beef is highly nutritious as are pastured raised eggs, while vegetables only provide incomplete amino acids. Finding pasture raised chickens to eat is however another story. Also wild caught fish is more beneficial than farm raised. Olive oil is a good fat but is subject to oxidation whereas saturated fat is not. He should do a bit more research into the Keto diet IMHO especially since he thinks obesity is the 'cause' of cancer whereas it is more likely the lifestyle of decades of eating the SAD and the poor quality of the foods we eat; and of course he did mention the additives, preservatives and pesticides but without a whole lot of emphasis there. As for vegs, cruciferious is best, but raw vegs high in oxalates & lectins are not.

"Cancer lover sugar. It doesn´t use oxygen for energy". Say what now? Since when do normal cells use oxygen for energy? They use oxygen to *efficiently break down glucose* for energy. Exactly like cancer cells. The whole ATP thing, remember? And if you don´t eat sugar but other carbs instead they´ll use the glucose the carbs get broken down into. And if all you give your body is ketones there´s no reason to assume cancer cells can´t use those. The reason you see that glucose go to the tumor in your scan is that cancer cells are very metabolically active and so require a lot of energy. They´re greedy for growth and whatever your energy source is they´ll take more of it than normal cells.

That study clearly showed that males eating a 'vegan' diet had the lowest relative mortality risk of all diet groups at just 72% of the mortality risk of male meat eaters. Women seemed to benefit less from healthy diets possibly because they already have significant protection from higher levels of oestrogen. In women, pescatarians had a lower mortality risk (81%) relative to meat eaters than vegan women. Taking males and females together pescatarians had lower total mortality risk relative to meat eaters than vegans This however masks the mortality advantage enjoyed by males eating a so-called vegan diet.

Why people believe all this marketing hype about pasture fed/grass fed/ organic/wild caught red meat is beyond me. For most of our history as a species, that was the only meat available. As the 5,000 year old mummy of Otzi the Iceman and 500 year mummies of Eskimoes show, consuming all that wild caught, marine and pasture fed red meat delivered extensive arteriosclerosis. Now 2 yrs out from surgery and do 2 hours a day on the rower. Did find through genetic testing that Lynch syndrome accounts for my ovarian and colon c's. If you haven't heard of Lynch please google. It helps to be aware to watch. Original cancer was at age 37. Had no idea. Early is key to this battle. And nutrition is a major weapon. Med schools pay scant attention to nutrition. 50/50 chance that a child will have Lynch. Merry Christmas to all! Hope this info only helps.

Very interesting but I would like to see references to absolute risk levels. Also comparing other countries, you have to control for gene pool.

I have been following these recommendations for almost 50 years...no cancer or health issues. I disagree with some things like using supplements. I take vitamin D3 and K2 along with an Omega 3 supplement everyday. I take a food based organic vitamin because I now there is no way I will ever eat all those various micronutrients. I also use herbs (organic) like milk thistle for example. No matter how well a person eats we always have free radicals that must be taken care of by our liver and other systems. I drive down the main road and always see lines of cars in every siingle fast food place. The people look "dead" to me. It is sad that this is what most kids are growing up eating. I am so glad my daughter does not eat this way and neither do my grandkids. It would be sad for me to see .
