A simple hack. I’ve stopped using store bought soy milk for cooking or smoothies. Instead, I keep cooked whole soybeans in the fridge. 1/4 cup soybeans blended with 1 cup of water as a whole food substitute. Particularly great in bread!

Funny enough I do the same thing. I keep them in the fridge though cause I use them within 4 to 5 days. And if you want it a little creamier you just add more Beans or a few cashews/almonds.

If you consume those 2 products then you are responsible for killing more animals and destroying the entire environment and your own health, than what ethical people such as the Delany sisters who lived to age 104 and 109 would do by growing as much as their own omnivore foods on their own property and then canning the rest for the Winter.

Humans have been modifying the genetics of plants and animals for not only centuries but for millennia. If life didn’t modify its genetics naturally, there literally would be no life on this planet. The fact that altering genetics can now be done in a lab instead of careful cross breeding is largely immaterial. The “GMO” hysteria is nothing more than hysteria. Problems? What problems?

Hi Dr. Greger, I am 53 years old and have had low blood pressure since (as far as I know) my teens. A recent check up revealed that I still have lbp. You mainly talk about high blood pressure and what what to do and what not to about it. I've been a vegetarian off and on for at least 20 yrs now and I'm going to switch over to your diet. I also do pretty intensive workouts such as HIIT at the gym 3 times week. I am somewhat worried about my life style and I feel dizzy at times. I'm slim, but not skinny. What can I do (or eat) to improve my blood pressure? Would drinking licorice tea e.g. be a plausible option? Hope you'll answer. Bye, Esther (Netherlands)

Animal AG's effects on greenhouse gasses, in the USA at least, aren't as big an issue as they are made out to be. Yes, cattle in the USA are at 91 million, however, buffalo are down from 30 million to 420k. Another thing to consider is that, while global cow population is up, other ruminants are down. I already gave you the example of the buffalo. Another example, sadly, is the elephant. In Africa the elephant population has dropped from 26 million to 415k. While cattle numbers are up, unfortunately, every other ruminant's numbers are down. Another thing to consider is that, of the top 5 methane producing countries, only the USA and Brazil are part of the methane pledge.
@patrickflynn607
@patrickflynn607 Жыл бұрын
Elephants are not ruminants. And if you subtract 420k, or even 30 million, from 91 million you still get a lot of cattle. Plus you have to add the use of fossil fuels to raise those cattle from fertilizers for fodder, to powering the farms for the production of that fodder and the farms to raise the cattle, to the transport to the slaughterhouse, etc.
@taekwonmo
@taekwonmo Жыл бұрын
I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that the methane concern comes from domestic cattle being fed grain as opposed to eating grass (like wild cattle would do). This causes them to have more trouble digesting, which in turn causes more methane.

Dr. Gregor, there is missing information in the WFPB world that needs addressing and unpacking. Plants provide the 8 essential amino acids and our body makes the 12 that constitutes the 20 in a complete protein chain. Animal products supply all 20 amino acids. So, does our body still make its 12, that would bring the number of amino acids to 32 (the 20 from the animal plus the Body’s 12.) for a single protein chain. Then what amino acid from the animal protein chain, creatinine for example, is helpful or hurting the human body. Does the body nullify the extra protein from the egg or cow, eliminate it harmlessly, or something more harmful to the Body. There is a complete absence of information/research on these important facts.

Excess protein gets excreted or burned as fuel.
@vhebert333
@vhebert333 Жыл бұрын
@@Magnulus76 Granted, excess “protein” is excreted or burned as fuel is a good “generality.” But, I believe “protein” here regards the 20 AA that the body uses or burns but not the extra 12 that comes to exist when humans eat “animal” protein having all 20 amino acids plus the 12 it makes to complete the 20 AA protein chain. Animals=20AA. Plants= 8 +12 AA so, does the body NOT make its 12 when animal protein is ingested containing all 20? I believe the answer with specifics will help us understand “why” animal foods are deleterious to the human body. And, maybe I need more education. But, the conundrum does exist and disease mortality compels us to answer this question with scientific specificity. Thanks for your consideration.

The 12 you mention (actually I believe it is 11) are included in the 20. In other words your body needs 20 but makes 11 of them itself, so you need to get the other 9 from diet.

My husband tried to go vegetarian but he hates most veggies. Won't eat them and does not like the smell of them. I buy rotisserie chicken for him or make stuff like that for him. The best thing to do is take a small portion, for yourself or your family and freeze the rest for a another day or meal and remove the skin. Be sure to fill up on veggies first or fruit before eating it. You know it is okay to have a bad meal, desert or treat once in awhile. The next meal or snack, you do better by having your veggies and fruits. Do not treat a bad meal or snack as a bad day, it is just one meal or a moment. I disagree - we have not evolved to eat a vegan diet, and we certainly have not gotten to this point in our evolution by supplementing our diet with processed supplements that have been proven to be far less bioavailable than those obtained from animal based sources that humans have relied on for thousands of years before the advent of agriculture.
