Gained 1.5 lbs in 2 days of carnivore! I could cry. I’m not hungry so I eat only what I need. I eat two meals a day. Lunch and dinner. I’m sure I’m under 1000 calories a day. Thank you for this video. I started carnivore eating meat till full with a little extra butter. Lost 9lbs in 3 weeks. Then heard about 80/20 carnivore for hormone healing, which I have Hashimotos, nearing menopause and have 40-50 pounds to lose. I tried to eat more fat towards the 80% with protein around 20%. In 3 weeks I gained 11 pounds. After watching your video it definitely gives me a better understanding of percentages I should be eating and what calories. I think 75/25 or even 70/30 will be better for my goals.

Such an excellent review of carnivore macros! One of the biggest mistakes I see (also guilty) is trying to shoot for the 80:20 (fat: protein) in a caloric deficit in an attempt to lose body fat. Protein tends to get too low. Muscle mass lost. BMR impaired.

FINALLY, This helps so much more than just eat till full. I've been struggling for so long trying to figure out proteins. I think eggs aren't helping me and I've stopped dairy. Dairy for me is inflammatory. I tested slightly sensitive for eggs years ago. For some reason bacon is tasting almost too sweet and it's almost impossible to find it with out sugar cured, so I've switched to pork belly. I can get the pork belly for $3.99 lb and then I save all the rendered fat to cook meats. Hopefully I won't have to go totally lion diet, which would be all beef for me. Anything else for lion diet here is $20 a pound and not in the budget. Thank you for explaining this. Every time I see someone struggling to understand what to eat I will send them to your video.

$20 a pound is about $40 a kilo he in Australia. I don't spend my money on plant, packaged food or pharmaceuticals so I think I pretty much break even. I sort of follow the Cut The CRAP Diet. C: carbohydrates and caffeine. R: refined foods, sugar and flour etc.. A: alcohol. P: processed foods, anything in a container and has many ingredients my grandparents would not recognise. This really opened my eyes. I think it can be easy to under eat with this WOE. Thats why I hate the whole "eat until satiated" saying used by fellow carnivores. Protein and fat is so satiating, that its easy to under eat. That happened to me when transiting to this diet and I almost felt like it wasnt working for me. However giving myself more time and making an attempt to eat more have proven to be fruitful and help a ton. Definitely keep track of your meals while starting this.

Your body is telling you that you are full for a reason. Why would your body evolve to make you under eat? Just use common sense. Calorie formulas are human made. So you trust human estimates over what your body is telling you? Always respect what your body tells you. If you are under-eating there will be side effects that your body will give you. The most important one being hunger. I am going to tell you something else. The calorie model is *simply wrong*. Yes eating more of one type of food will result in more weight gain. But this entire “calorie” model ignores basics such as mitochondrial function, insulin hormones, etc. go and read the many studies on “calorie dense” nuts and look at what they show on weight loss. Or you could simply look at calorie consumption rates from 2000-2020 (changed a mere 50 calories of difference-an insignificant amount) while obesity rates exploded more than an astounding 100% higher (20-42% of population). Calorie consumption cannot explain this or even remotely come close to explaining this. Seed oil consumption is the only food intervention that significantly increased during these decades. And what does that do to your mitochondrial function and ability to properly process food energy? Calories aren’t everything.

I would love to do carnivore but I don't have teeth. I do have an unlimited number of eggs from my chickens though. It's hard for older people like me on a fixed income to buy large quantities of healthy meat, I do buy meat from the local butcher. Your formula in this video will help me calculate just how much protein and fat I need to consume so I can calculate cost. Another thing is that I don't have a gallbladder, so maybe I should take supplement ox bile when I eat fat.

Thank you so much for this! I have been keto for a several years now and carnivore for the last few months but last year my thyroid function tanked, due to various things, and I have really been struggling this past year. I had been listening lately to a you tube influencer who really preaches a lower protein intake and super high fat intake. And organ meat. I started eating some liver and it made me feel like crap. High fat does make me feel good but too much fat disrupts my gut and that low protein is for the birds. The mistake most people on Carnivore do is cutting out sugar and going high protein and maintaining low fat. This will lead to cravings as well as feeling I’ll. I recommend 2-3 animal saturated fat to one protein. There is usually a we bit of sugar in meat. For example an average 12 oz rib-eye has approximately 91 grams of protein and 57 grams of fat. So it’s in reality a little less than a 2 protein to 1 fat. This is not good nor sustainable. I fixate on getting enough animal fat. You need significantly more fat. This is Dr. Paul Saladino’s mistake and the reason he went back to his sugar addiction. Forget about eating three meals a day and getting bogged down in macros. Anyone who normally is stuck on portion control is going to have problems doing carnivore correctly. Meaning feast until you can’t eat more , your stuffed. Then don’t eat again until your hungry. If your doing it right you will feel good. If you are feeling exhausted, dizzy, having cravings your not ingesting enough fat. You should be fixated on pigging out when you eat. Ultimately you will eat less over time because hormonally you will become satiated & quickly end up eating only once a day. Cheers Dr. Ginge. Judy your giving valuable info. It’s not as much about protein as it is about animal fat. Your fuel is either sugar or fat. Carnivores should be running on a high fast diet. 70 -80% fat. 17:41

I think that misnomer (around 27 min mark) of it being some "magical" formula = voi'la, you're good to go may be the fact that a lot of the initial info/people folks hear from & learn by are those who say "just eat meat & fat" & all will fall into place~ & that works for some. But, imho, there are far more who get tripped up on gaining extra weight at first, or those same basic methods do NOT apply to~ or not right away. It's beyond helpful to have this type of explanation & breakdown Judy, & the visuals are great. Really appreciate you taking the time to address all of this. There's a lot of (somewhat) conflicting information out there suggesting various ratios of fat & protein which is truly confusing. For instance, I came to carnivore 2 yrs ago as a 55 yr old female who ate standard so-called "healthy" diet, as I knew it (whole grain/fruit/veg/lean proteins) & also sugar addicted- which was my reward at the end of the day for being so "healthy". I jumped right into OMAD, but was unable to eat enough at one sitting to meet my caloric needs. That first year, I experienced a lot of positive changes, but lost exactly zero of the 40lbs I wanted to drop~ all gained during a decade peri-meno yrs, & during the 2 yr cessation of menses period. Not one pound. I then began increasing my calories, gained another 10 lbs over the next year. I am just now seeing the scale begin to creep downward~ very slowly. I believe it's because I'm finally in a realistic range of protein/fat/calories, which is around 1,800-2,200 for me.

Very good, Judy. I just worked this out for myself a couple of weeks ago and it's nice to see my calculations confirmed. People really need this, because they don't understand how to balance protein requirements with fat and overall caloric needs. I'm an engineer, but the arithmetic is really tough for most people. Must say any mention of getting rid of or managing stressors is always confounding to me. I am part of a silently desperately suffering monstrously huge group of caregivers of mentally ill people. We are constantly, and I mean 24 /7, on the run putting out fires living a dementia caring life style. For me it has been 15 years of caring for someone who has surpassed me in physical health. How do you zen out living with a fecal hoarder who hides massive packages behind furniture and heating units,, flushing jewelry down toilets, breaks locks, hides keys, incessantly talking gibberish and constantly angry. Hundreds of thousands of people in the USA research how in the mdst of this storm they can maintain their health and one of the first things they are told is to get rid of stress, to meditate for instance when every little sound is a warning of destruction, very understandable but it makes you want to slap your forehead. Health conversations that reasonably include De-Stress sounds to me are for folks who are not like me or the folks in my support group, who have lupus while taking care of 2 autistic sons, or another sickly lady with a 27 year old down syndrome child, or husband's, wives, parents or siblings who have to feed, bath, diaper or constantly rotate in their beds for fear of bed sores. It makes me cringe how super well meaning health promoters or people in general are ignorant of the hundreds of thousands of hands on caregivers who's eyes cross when they hear that stress is unhealthy. No kidding. Thank you again for plainly and simply plotting out the food plan chart. I understand that timing is important and am trying to not eat while feeding my loved one three meals a day. I'm also aware the your meal plan could very well help with my husband's Alzheimers but fighting just bringing him to showers is about all that's left in me and barely. At least I've eliminated nightshade vegetables for both of us. I will continue to follow you . ,

Just spent the last 3 months trying the 60gr protein that Diet Doctor, Amber O’Hearn, and Stephanie Person recommend(last two also 200+gr fat)- still didn’t lose any weight and now all my nails are brittle and chipping and my skin is the driest it has ever been in my life, plus inflammation in my gums. So I know I’m missing nutrients. I was getting sick and tired of eating so much fat and so little protein. I look forward to sinking my teeth into a good steak! Thank you for these macros, which contradict a lot of the main stream. (One year Carnivore, 90lbs to lose, have lost zero).

I definitely don't agree with Stephanie Person with her "eat 2 sticks of butter a day". First of all, this should not apply to everyone. I upped my protein and use the fat to get the rest of my calories and feel much better.

How long did it take you to adjust after upping your protein? I was following this recommendation. I am up to about 116 g per day. Goal is 120. My sugars are spiking about 30 to 40 points after I eat but then they are dropping with what I assume is the reactive hypoglycemia I have added or increase my fat intake and work out about four days a week and cannot seem to stabilize my glucose levels or lose weight.?

Thank you for the clear explanations. I now feel like I know approximately how much I need to be eating, and will keep in mind how much I should add when I become more active, but first I want to just get to a healthy weight and maintain it. I definitely have not been eating enough, unfortunately, and I feel more wired as a result. It really helps to know how much fat I should be adding per day in terms of tablespoons as opposed to "eating until you're satisfied" because as a person with a very petite figure, I tend to feel full faster, even I haven't eaten enough in terms of protein and calories, and I am more likely to undereat. I've also learned through reflecting on this that fasting really isn't for me, and 3 meals per day is better because there really is only so much my small body can take in in a single meal. Thank you-thank you again ❣️

This video was extremely helpful. I’m 10 days on carnivore diet. 44 years old. About 30 lbs overweight. Chronic fatigue syndrome and Dysautonomia /POTS for 20 years. Had no idea how many calories to be eating. I was used to eating around 1500 on regular healthy diet. Was gaining weight on that over last year. On carnivore, was feeling so full in first week, was only eating 1200-1300 a day. Fatigue was getting really really bad. Was chalking it up to keto flu plus my CFS but now see I really need to get my protein up and calories up. I had been doing about 70/30 fat protein. Now will aim for at least 1800 a day. 120-130 protein. Interesting about thyroid. I’m on desiccated thyroid med for last 20 years.

It would be very helpful if you clarify whether this advice applies to those needing to lose fat weight. There's a lot of confusion on the internet around added fat and fat macros. As best I can tell, advice to add additional fat (beyond what meat naturally provides, or intentionally choosing fatty meats when appetite would be satieted with leaner cuts) is not applicable to those needing to lose excess fat. Clarification is appreciated! :)

How well life is done. 🥰Keto for a while now. I just finished a 72 hour sardine challenge this morning (my 3rd day yesterday). I needed that break and that boost. And as I had finished my vegetables in the fridge before starting the challenge, I said to myself yesterday that it would be interesting to do my first carnivore week today, which I am doing. And guess what? I came across this video yesterday, what a great coincidence. There are so many things conveyed on both the English and French sides (of which I am a part). This video helps me guide my macros. A Huge Thank you for that!🤗 I recently purchased your book (a challenge in itself since English is not my first language) and subscribed to your channel for a while, because I knew that I would slowly move towards carnivore one day. Thank you for clarifying this. It’s been the missing number I’ve been looking for for so long. Even though you have to use the standard guidelines as a baseline, it at least holds some value as to where to start. This is a wonderful video. The problem with analyzing the ratios is that every meat cut is different and one has to estimate how much fat and protein is there. One of your meal plans has a 24 oz of ribeye but different sources would give you a different amount of protein. Cronometer would give you as much as 185 g of protein.

It makes more sense to eat grams per height and not weight. As weight always fluctuates and we don't know the muscle mass. I found this carnivore trainer and he suggested 1g of protein per 1 cm of body height. And it was a complete game changer for me. Yes, it's a lot of food and protein but in my case I could see my body needinv it desperately. I am 160 cm which if 5 ft 2 and eat 160 grams of protein. With 80/20 fat to protein ratio. I believe this is how I avoided most of the carnivore issues people have like low energy and hair loss.

Many carnivore and/or Keto diet advisors tell us to listen to our bodies. About 3 weeks ago, I started transitioning to the carnivore diet. Eight days ago, I fully implemented the carnivore diet. My body now tells my brain that I am not hungry. I theorize my body has recognized that it must now burn fat and has conditioned itself to that aim. Therefore, it is using my fat reserves for energy and telling my brain it needs no more food. Nutrition with Judy tells me that I need about 2,000 calories to supply hormones and thyroid. Following this theory, is my body obtaining these hormones and thyroid needs from my stored fats?

Could you be moving more and increasing your muscle mass? That would be healthy. Another possibility is that you are eating processed junk food labeled "keto" that contain carbohydrates. Another possibility is that you are eating more protein than you need, and the excess is converted to glucose and a few other chemicals. Dr. Robert Cywes has a video about this (kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKHMeWp6mrKkbac). Dr. Cywes is a liver specialist with a Ph.D. in biology and he also is a M.D.. he has great videos, but they go far more into the biochemistry than most diet videos.
