I may never have commented on your channel before, but for some reason KZbin put my name with no comment down without me doing anything, so I decided to let you know I have, in fact been following you on KZbin for a number of years, have been impressed with your work and definitely enjoyed the explanation of your falling process. I am a retired fireman, full time farmer and do log my own timber management areas and some similar timber management areas of my neighbors, with all harvesting done via hand falling, thus people like yourself, Stump Jumper, Buckin, etc., have helped me be a much better faller than my early years. At 81 years old, I have been at this for over 60 years, so most of my learning was from the school of hard knocks, successes, failures and injuries I survived. The greatest advances from my point of view are chainsaw weight being less than 20 pounds presently versus 40 to 80 pounds back when I started, when chainsaws were getting popular; chain speed on the newer machines; finally, instruction I have received from local loggers and good old KZbin content providers like you and some others. Sincere thanks, for the time and energy you have put in over the years! Nick, North West Farmer (Oregon)

Thanks for the answer, Pete. I’m impressed you can move that quick from tree to tree, especially with big crowns. Those are the ones that make me nervous. Thanks again.

Good information on "tree assesment" Pete! Sometimes I will spend more time LOOKING at the tree than what it takes to cut it down. You can NEVER BE TOO SAFE!

Here, I just thought it was those 6 foot steps you take while Sasquatching through the bush! Guess there is more to it, Huh? The trunk leaning one way and the top leaning the other are the ones I always over think. Trying to figure which has the most weight, top or bottom. Thanks for the video and be safe!

How often do you have to 'fight' the natural lean? Percentage wise?
@nuts319 Жыл бұрын
Depends on the job, but usually about 20%

You are pretty fast. I still think that you would be a very good bore and spur feller. After all its about grabbing the footage with some trees. I will say i dont consider just any feller as a good possible bore and spur feller. You have something about you that makes me think you would be very good at it. Keep up the good work and keep it safe out there.

I'm as slow as a seven year itch! LOL You are right though, assessment/thinking ahead is what speeds a cutter up. I don't get around on the ground very good at all... you really need to be like a gray squirrel, something like logger Wade. 😂 But when I don't make mistakes, I'm a lot faster. Still super slow though.
