My local rock station played Hurt as soon as they got their hands on it. I went out and bought the album as fast as I could. I popped it into my alpine and just drove around and listened to the entire CD straight through. When it ended I drove for probably 20 minutes or so in silence. What i love about Frank's covers is that he takes the song and sort of flips it on its head. The original Nutshell was very Doom-y, whereas Frank's finger picking pattern makes the the guitar melody have a little bit of a hopeful or happy feel, which contrasts sweetly with the despairing lyrics. This, not to mention Frank's chooses to sing the sing differently. It makes me think of a warm summer day where you're sitting on the porch with some sweet tea reflecting on life and just basking in a melancholy calm. Effing brilliant.
