I have one of these. I also own a $2,000 solid silver flute. Is the silver flute better? Absolutely. But, the Nuvo flute is my choice for outdoors because I don’t have to worry about it. It is a beginner flute and a good one at that.

I have one of these. At 65 (and self-taught), the shape is easier on shoulders and wrists. Also, I rotate the J joint up quite a bit, so the flute is less likely to rotate in my hands. When I do that, it's really very ergonomic. The sound certainly doesn't ring like a metal flute--how could it? It has a warmer sound, more like a traditional wooden flute, which isn't such a bad sound... Except when you get into the third octave a bit. Then it's pretty thin.

I got one of these a few years ago. I wish they had been around when I was in marching band, many decades ago...! For me, it's a great traveling and knock-around flute, because I don't have to worry about it. I can take it on hikes out into the woods and if I accidentally drop it in the creek, well, it's waterproof. I even took it to Israel in 2015 and it got baptized in the Jordan River right along with me. Yes, it's a little crankier than my professional flute and I have to work a little harder to get the same sound, but it's a great fun flute. I have also seen it recommended for keeping in practice when recovering from, say, shoulder surgery, since it's so light.

Crazily, I prefer the plastic. I have a silver gmeinhardt (sp?) and it's so brilliant it's shrill. And for church (mic'd from the pulpit?) it's a bit much.

I know what you mean! Sometimes it's just nice to have a 'softer' tone. So, not so crazy. :)

I am a beginner and starting on this flute. I agree with all of this review. Plus it helps exercise your lungs!! You play beautiful music

I have a C flute. I have a bad shoulder pain so I am getting a Fliphead joint so I can play it like my sax. Sounds ok. Different but not bad. 😊😊😊😊

Oh cool! Yes flute can definitely be a cause of shoulder pain. I hope this solution is a workable long term solution for you. :)

Also good for marching band I heard. I want to get one because I always manage to drop my expensive flute on the field and even inside the school while doing sectionals so maybe this is a good option.

The plastic instruments sound like they have baroque-like tone colors compared to their metallic counterparts.

Really nice. Could you make another video comparing the sounds on simple, beginner-type tunes? It would be good to hear what it sounds like on the easier tunes that our kids are going to be starting with.

Hi Liz thanks for your great video. I'm starting out on the flute. I've got a choice between a cheaper nickel-based flute or this Nuvo. Would you recommend this one over regular flutes if it comes to the first, say, 2 years of playing? Cheers, Lukas

What brand is the nickel flute?

Thanks for this! Could you tell me how incut is the embouchure hole? Also I noticed the intonation of low D is a bit off. Would you say the intonation problems of this flute are more comparable to the Japanese makes with C more in tune and A and E a bit flat, or US makes where C is very sharp?
@MythicFluteMastery3 жыл бұрын
Japanese flute eg Yamaha will always have better intonation. The embouchure hole is not very incut. I think with other flutes there is just more flexibility to deal with the intonation problems, but due to the timbre of this flute (because it is plastic) it makes it more difficult to get good intonation.

I started out in a metal flute & after a few attempts I managed to get a sound out of it. Unless I'm not looking at this right, I feel like these could be too hand holding. Admittedly I could be looking at this the completely wrong way.

OMGawsh, my anxiety when you laid your professional flute on the counter and turned your back on it - worse possible scenarios playing out in my head!

Lol!!! Sorry about that!!! Its funny, my dad does worse with his violin which makes ME nervous-and his violin is worth far more than my flute lol.

Hi, Liz! thank you for your video! Helped me a lot! One question: do you know if I can use the headjoint from my silver flute on this Nuvo flute? Or even a wooden head joint? I mean, do the Nuvo flute body adapt to other headjoints? Thank you in advance!
@MythicFluteMastery3 жыл бұрын
No, only the nuvo headcount will fit-it's little different to other flutes. Sorry for late reply! Just seeing this now.

Does the lip plate make the flute sound weird
@MythicFluteMastery Жыл бұрын
It is definitely different, but not solely because of the lip plate-the whole thing is plastic, so that will never be as resonant as metal. But it is pretty good for what it is!
