I guess you didn't have yours on too long. Then it heats up and the sound becomes all distorted.

I've been enjoying this pedal for about a month now. I liked your video. One small correction. You said that the IR knob "allows you to blend between your dry signal and your IR signal." According to the manufacturer, this is not the case. Here is what NuX told me about the IR knob: "The IR Level Knob cuts/boosts the IR file signal at 8dB. Middle position is 0dB. For example, if you find an imported IR file sounds too loud, you can use this knob to turn it down to avoid distortion. The editing software even offers bass-cut and treble-cut to fine tune the IR files. It doesn't give any dry signal, so it's not a balance/mix knob." I look forward to your full demo of the pedal!

I'm sorry but no guitarist worth adamn is going to guess what size the guitar is off of a compressed audio clip, or no guitarist worth their damn. Did you hear the guesses, "something big, a dreadnough" t oh you mean the most common guitar body style in the world by a vast majority
@PedalRebel880
@PedalRebel880 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, we were guessing for the fun of it. Generally, we associate a certain type of acoustic tone with a certain type of body shape. That is an undeniable truth with all guitarists. As a matter of fact, a trumpeter will guess if it is a regular Bb Trumpet, a Bugle, or even a Cornet from the tone they hear in a compressed audio clip. It's just a thing we musicians do...

@Joe - Who are you to self-appoint yourself as the judge of guitarists?

I think they get credit for giving an honest effort without concern their knowledge was in question. I had absolutely no ideas. I have heard so many awful plugged-in acoustics at open mic nights, etc. I thought that's what they sounded like! One in particular was so bad I realized three artists had the same horrible sound, and saw they were all sharing the same guitar. I was very disappointed that I recognized the headstock of that guitar, and hoped the guitar was the lowest life form that company sold! Very unrelated, but I am reminded of a different kind of 'blindfold test'. Downbeat Magazine used to have a blindfold test back in the pre-CD days with a famous musician with a long history (I think I can remember with Miles Davis, Milt Jackson, and maybe Sonny Rollins). The interviewer would play new recordings from multiple newer artists who played the same instrument as the interviewee, and that person who created history would comment on who they thought they were hearing. Not what instrument, but the player's 'voice', style, whatever impression was felt. Miles & Sonny had insightful observations, sometimes they were familiar with the younger players who were 'coming up', and recognize them correctly, or guess at a possibility that was pretty accurate. Not 100% (but I think that was the bias of the interview/test). One commented that it sounded like someone from his era (50's, 60's) then added 'or someone heavily influenced by the person they first thought of'. Milt Jackson's response was the one I remember most clearly. He did not recognize any of the newer vibe players or even think they sounded like any of his own contemporaries. That made an impression on me back when I read the magazine in a library...that maybe he never listened to anyone else. Old me speaking now: maybe he didn't remember anything from the old days, but it seems like one is inclined to make even an inaccurate guess, if relying on auditory memory. Maybe he was checked out of music at that point and didn't need to hear anyone copying someone else. So maybe his 0% score was for good reason. That brings me back to your friends' participation. I heard intuitive comments, not "it sounds like a guitar". The friend who pondered the possibility they might all be from the same guitar was "onto something". I didn't care that they didn't identify the type, model and strings! I liked that they head differences more akin to the voicing, and maybe subconsciously contemplating likes/dislikes before answering, without stepping into expressing judgement leaning that way. The magazine interviewees were all 'worth a damn', and I only judged one for having zero awareness of later players. I was impressed with your friends' ability to listen and analyze, regardless of the outcome. For myself, I checked out before the 2nd clip; acoustic guitar not being my expertise, but also saying I don't expect myself to have any auditory memory, other than recognizing a musician or song title, any more I could remember subtle color variations in visual comparisons...I don't think in color. The differences in clips are complex...you only pick up 'obvious' things and maybe not all the details. Hopefully they are still your friends. I think they made an honest thoughtful effort and were insightful. Like you could get their opinions about recordings, etc. I found my way here because I am helping a friend set up a ToneDexter for a gig next week. HE knows what his own guitars sound like and can make his own decisions. I know how to read manuals, connect cables & update the firmware. Everyone has different skills & weaknesses. I am more interested in the 'mad scientist' aspect of 'deceiving' the Tone Dexter by providing it with a different guitar's mic'ed audio. Another friend denied that possibility, but Audio Sprockets even tells you how to do this (like for a 'silent guitar').
