Amusing fact: Chosen Heroine (the red head) is the "Main Character" of the setting. The gods had originally had her fate to be a classic "tragic backstory" where her village got sacked by goblins who did goblin things to everyone she knew and cared about. Fortunately, Goblin Slayer ended up taking the quest to defend the Heroine 's home town and because he's Goblin Slayer he actually managed it even though the Gods had set the defenders up to fail. Rather then rage quit and try again as the Gods in most settings would do if a mortal defied their will, the Gods here decide that was fucking awesome and change the Heroine's fate to have had a happy life growing up. They also take special note of GS himself and it's hinted they actually pull the rug out from under his enemies on occasion purely because he's their favorite mortal. Essentially, Goblin Slayer is a fan favorite NPC in a board game, he's the character that the players think is awesome and they never want him to lose. He's not the main character, but he's the guy that the MC hears about doing shit in the background while they deal with the Main Quest.

Something similar happened with Priestess. She was always going to survive that first quest that wiped out the rest of her party, but her fate would've been similar to Sword Maiden's and she would've even been the fourth member of the Heroine's party had GS not intervened.

One of my favorite things about the Female red headed hero is that Goblin Slayer saved her village before she was old enough to adventure and kill the demon lord. Not only that she killed the demon lord on accident, she went the wrong way.

Not only that, sometime goblin Slayer and the Female Hero help each other by pure accident, like Goblin Slayer and his party are fighting a guy using the power of an ancient god but later is reveal that the guy had a nerfed power because the Female Hero was fighting said god in another dimension and later Goblin Slayer destroying a goblin nest helped the Female Hero and her party while they were busy closing a portal to hell and thanks to Goblin Slayer they could do it before they were overwhelmed by demons

The difference in approach between the Goblins Slayer and the rest of the party is that they still think of killing goblins as part of an adventure, where you test your skill against worthy foes and monsters. There is a certain "fairness" to how you fight monsters when you are on an adventure. Goblin Slayer approaches killing goblins the same as exterminating vermin - you lay traps, you use poison, you burn them out, you drown them. It's about killing as many of them as quickly and efficiently as possible without putting yourself at undue risk. He's willing to put himself at risk, but he recognizes he can kill a lot more goblins if he does it as unfairly as possible.

Every time you hear that a previous group didn't come back, you play out the reality of it in your mind and you feel the emotions of it. In so many other media (shows and games), you hear "and they died" and you have this external sense of it all. Like a numbers game of attrition. This show plays out the disgusting and terrible reality of what would happen. I've played D&D sessions with a goblin lair and felt different, and played different after having watched this show. It's that effective.

I don't think this is a major spoiler but fun fact the "hero" was rescued by Goblin Slayer when she was just a little girl. Her village was a village that was going to be destroyed by goblins and he was the only one that went out of his way to try and help. It was in the goblin slayer "year one" side story. I loved that because it shows that not only is his work important for the little guys but if he hadn't been doing this the hero of this world would have been goblin fodder and the demon lord would have went undefeated.

The thing I've never understood about the world of Goblin Slayer is how goblins got this reputation of being a basic, non-threat that is below the notice of most adventurers. 1v1, sure, goblins lose easily, but from what we've seen, goblins know this and usually attack en-masse.

You have to consider the level of threat that Goblins have to the fantasy world compared to the other threats. Zombie outbreak, dark wizards, demons, dragons. These can cause a massacre in a day. Goblins, while still a threat, only cause trouble to small towns and villages. Adventurers are going to prioritize killing a dragon over some Goblins. There's also the fact that since Goblins have a low threat level compared to other monsters, quests to kill them don't have high pay. Adventurers would want to kill a dragon that has high pay and clout over a few Goblins.

In the world of goblin slayer goblins are pretty much the rats irl. That pretty much the reason. You and pretty much everyone considers rats irl not a big problem. But they really are. They are the number one cause of disease spread such as the black plague and many other deadly disease. One rat is not much trouble just like a goblin. But rat reproduce like crazy, they carry deadly disease and if let alone they can definitely become a problem and can possibly kill over half of the population like in real life events such as the black plague.

Goblin Slayer has always reminded me of an extremely famous D&D story... The story of "Tuckers Kobolds" Essentially, a high level D&D party played through a perilous dungeon ran by Kobolds, which are typically paired with Goblins as the sort of 'mook' style enemies of D&D and other fantasy settings. The parties ventured into the Kobolds nest and were beset by traps including 'murder holes' that the Kobolds used to rain down arrows upon the party, murder their hirelings and donkeys, and pester the hell out of the party. Other traps included throwing Molotov Cocktails from behind metal barricades, and trapping the party inside a flaming corridor... Eventually, the high level party had to run... Goblin Slayer, like Tuckers Kobolds, is a wonderful lesson in why you should NEVER underestimate your foe.

I can completely agree with nuxs decision to not include the swordmaiden in his bad villain video. I love her motivation in the way it parallels goblin slayers, they both know firsthand the horror goblins can create, but because the world doesn't take them seriously, they take it on themselves to eliminate the goblins. It's kind of an inspire through fear vs inspire through knowledge mentality. Even in setting up the goblins and allowing them to exist, swordmaiden is still trying to protect those she cares for, leaving her alligator familiar in the sewers. Meanwhile, goblin slayer, who knows what goblins are capable of and their weaknesses, sets an example by focusing on them and using his knowledge to help others.

It is not stated in the anime yet and in the manga yet but many towns learn how to defend themselves against Goblins because of Goblin Slayer. Much later in the series GS is convinced to write a book about defending your territory from goblins. It ends up becoming a best seller around the world. The book is treated like a holy relic centuries after GS’s death. Basically everyone that starts a life in the country side needs this book to truly live. GS actually starts an exterminator business in book 17 of the Light Novel, it doesn’t really take up traction until book 23. Eventually a guild is created just for Goblin Slaying quests.

Kind of. It was a Gate spell, which can be used to either gate in a powerful creature, or create a gate between two points. Usually it's used for traveling to other dimensions, because it is just that powerful a spell. He uses it to connect to the bottom of an ocean trench and create a water laser. He's one of the few fantasy characters with the mind of an engineer.

Goblin Slayer and Chosen Heroine actually met each other in the past. In the Goblin Slayer Year One side story....... It's revealed that originally Chosen Heroine's hometown was to be destroyed by goblins and she would grow to be dark and jaded, however Goblin Slayer actually showed up instead and saved the whole town with his planning leading Chosen Heroine to instead grow up into a happy person instead and led to the gods taking notice of Goblin Slayer and most becoming his fans "except for Truth as Goblin Slayer is constantly ruining his plans whenever he shows up" as they realize they cannot predict or dictate his actions.

One of my favorite things about Goblin Slayer. All the character's were designed to be in 5E DnD with Goblin Slayer specifically being a multi class of fighter and Ranger (with favorite enemy Goblin), but specifically the creator also put out there he based Goblin Slayer off of Marvels The Punisher and DC's The dark Knight Frank Millers Run). One of my favorite moments in goblin slayer is when the elf the dwarf and the lizard man are talking to the attendant girl for the first time, and the moment the lizard man says goblin slayer’s name. He just opens the door and enters the room, as if summoned like just saying, his name makes him appear and that’s one of my favorite aspects about goblin slayer is the mythology behind it really by the end of this series, I expect goblin slayers name to go down in history as the man who defeated the most goblins out of anybody ever, and as a horror story to the goblins, if they are still alive by the end of the series

Not far into the video so nux might mention it, but I still love that on my second watch through of Goblin Slayer I had a moment where I thought about what someone's name was only to realize that there is not a single named character in the entire show. I love that this adds to the element of how Goblin Slayer is seen as a monster from the perspective of the goblins by making it so no one is named. In one corner you have a goblin shaman, two goblin archers, and a goblin warrior, and in the other you have Goblin Slayer, Priestess, Lizardman Shaman, Dwarf Sorcerer, and Elf Ranger. It just puts everyone on the same level, at least in one aspect.

In original myths, fae were a variety of mythical beings, from pixies (what modern day fairies, your Tinker Bells, are based on), to gnomes, from ugly sneaky bastards like goblins to big booba wamen like Titania. Ancient Magus Bride covers this well, that's what that anime is based on, Celtic mythology, and the supernatural world of the fae. There aren't angels, there aren't demons, there is no good, and there is no evil. They are all tricksters, just at varying levels, a pixie might pull a minor prank like stealing your sock or car keys, while others like changelings will swap places with your new born baby so you raise a fairy baby instead of your own human child. Some are cute, some are ugly, some may be hot, some may be terrifying, but they aren't good or bad, they just exist like any other creature. Even the Queen Titania, or the King Oberon, heck they play pranks on each other, like in Shakespear's play Mid Summer's night, where the Queen falls in love with a human, and Oberon transforms the boy into a donkey, then hypnotizes his wife to kiss the... ass (quiet KZbin, it's fine, it's another name for a donkey), on the mouth. You don't mess with Fae, of any kind, even if some seem nice, all are tricksters.

In the spinoff manga, Goblin Slayer: Year One, they hint that the girl who goes on to slay the demon king was living in an orphanage that Goblin Slayer saved from a goblin attack on one of his first adventures, so even though he and probably nobody else will ever know WE know that Goblin Slayer saved the world

A lot of people seem to misread this, but the Swordsaint didn't summon the goblins. She knew about the whole thing happening, but was too afraid to do anything about it, because of her trauma. The goblins were the work of her enemies.

If you haven’t seen season 2 there’s a part where they explain that the goblins are getting more clever or more adaptive and that leads into my theory that the demon king is a crazy evolved version of a goblin. (And that goblin slayer and party will eventually kill the demon king)

there was a recap that was also a parody. the person that did it read the manga and so knew the differences and included them, making it perhaps the best recaps i had seen. Goblin Slayer is one of the best animes, and those that hate on it are not worth my time.

the fact that many people don't know, is that Goblin Slayer actually saved he village of the Hero whod defeated the demon lord 5 years a go, in GS's first big quest against goblins. Meaning that if it weren't for Goblin Slayer, the Hero would die a tragic death by goblins.

So the reason the priestess asked to see Goblin Slayers face after they slept together is because the anime swapped those events around. The goblin lord army happens before the horde in the sewers in the manga. So at that point she hadn’t seen his face. It was probably swapped for the anime since the lord army conclusion has a more finale feel

Goblin Slayer is like Batman of the Fantasy world, I love how he plans things out ahead of time, and is always prepared for battle, and is obsessed as fuck with what he does. It's like in a video game, you level up to 100 but instead of going out to fight stronger monsters and explore more lands, no you stay behind and just farm and kill low level beginning town monsters because you have a grudge against them. So you spend the next 10 years just killing the same beginning monsters over and over.

3:50 agreed, as many jokes as I make, this stood out because it broke the mold... can't be helped that anime like this, Monster Musume, Interspecies Reviewers, and Konosuba get praise because of this, they're just willing to go where others aren't. It is essential in world building, and helps this anime stand out from others, makes you question does this happen in other anime? In the video games you play, especially of the RPG genre, your Zeldas, Fire Emblem, Final Fantasies... POKEMON IS AN RPG, and we already know how bad that world can get ignoring the degenerates and/or furries of the world. Like I would not doubt some Pokemon doing whatever they please to humans (ahem Hypno Mr Mime), especially when in games like LA you have a Snorlax that caused the entire village to almost starve to death, gen 1 you got Team Rocket murdering Pokemon maiking wrathful ghosts. With some Pokemon descriptions I'D RATHER GO TO GOBLIN SLAYER'S WORLD! Hell there are goblin Pokemon, Sableye and the Impidimp line. People talk about wanting to go to the Pokemon world, have their cute Eevees and Growlithes, their Gardevoirs, and the furries their Lopunny and lucarios but... no, just no. ... sorry went off rails a bit with the Pokemon talk. Point being, while writing my own stories, I haven't been afraid of covering any topic. Sure if it ever comes to light, maybe it will need censoring, but as long as it doesn't have too much, to ruin the art I made (you don't see us putting clothes on those Greek statues and sculptures of people or gods like Venus De Mio), it's fine, because art shouldn't be hidden, it is there to convey a message, theme, and the expression, and emotions of the artist for the consumers of said art.

This Anime points out something that a lot of people get wrong about Fantasy all the time. In fact you can find it in some old and legendary games like Gothic. A Tombstone where a Dragonslayer was buried, and it says that he was killed by a mob of Goblins while resting at his campfire. What with Nightstalkers and mosters of that sort as neighbours, these little fuckers still, not only survive, but thrive. They are just as dangerous, because they got numbers. You underestimate things like this, you can quickly die, and when you realize that it´s happening, its already too late.

Bit irritated by the numerous errors in the narration. -Called a goblin shaman a goblin leader. -Called a goblin champion a goblin lord. -Called a goblin lord a goblin king. -Called a martial artist a swords woman. -Called a bag of flour a bag of gas. -The teleport scroll wasn't ancient, but had a hand crafted location (bottom of the sea) by the sorceress by GS's request. Love this anime though, one of my favorites. Need to dive into season 2 at some point.
