Flygon actually did a weird test and came up with the conclusion that challenge mode actually is sort of easier cause although they have higher levels and held items the stats for the Pokémon don’t change from their original level so you technically have a level advantage through stats

having higher levels also makes the game easier in general, strangely enough. since you have more options with the extra 3 levels in midgame and the rest depends on thresholds but that midgame boost helps a lot.

Fun fact about Ghetsis' Hydregion: this thing is both under-leveled for the evolution requirement, AND hates Ghetsis' guts. According to some Pokemon lore I heard somewhere but don't remember where- forcing Pokemon to evolve before they're ready in-universe makes them furious. See also the forced-to-evolve Lake of Rage Gyarados. How do we know that Hydregion hates Ghetsis? It has a max power Frustration. Frustration, for the unaware, is a move that is basically the opposite of Return. The less a Pokemon likes you, the higher the damage. Lowering happiness is so difficult in games, you have to feed it bitter items, have it faint in battle... and that's about it. But happiness can be gained by just walking with your Pokemon, so Frustration usually isn't a viable move... ever.

I think it‘s hilarious that the coding for the challenge modes simply changes the levels, and not the base stats. Hence the easy mode has higher base stats for the levels they are on, while the hard one has less base stats than they should. Making the hard mode only hard in the beginning and considerably easier in the end due to higher level caps and easier leveling, giving you tons of base stat advantages (source reddit)

True, they are the same, but I think, since they are, in most other ways, different Pokémon. I guess we won’t know until Sun & Moon come along; he showed off all of the thumbnails in the Black & White episode, and Legends Arceus had a Hisuian Decidueye in its part of the thumbnail. He’s planning to use Rowlet in the Sun leg of the challenge, judging by that thumbnail, so that will be where the answer comes. If he fully evolves it into a Decidueye, he is counting them as separate Pokémon. If he doesn’t, he isn’t counting regional forms as separate Pokémon.

@@empoleon7750oh, i was actually wondering who the pokemon in arceus thumbnail was since i haven't played arceus, well it would be quite stupid to repeat the regional form since in the pokedex they are counted as the same mon, we will see with Pokemon arceus what happened
