Nuzlocking the ENTIRE Pokemon Franchise, but with a twist!

It's time for a new adventure! After having trekked through many of these games time and time again, I wanted to have one final ultimate challenge in the vanilla mainline Pokemon franchise... Can I beat, every SINGLE Pokemon game in chronological order in a hardcore nuzlocke setting, and without reusing a single Pokemon in any other game? For instance, if I use Bulbasaur in Red version, I won't be able to use it in Blue, Yellow, Firered, or any other game. Rules of the challenge:
Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch one Pokémon on each Route (Species Clause)

Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)

Not quite. He actually shares the same data with the "Rival 2" Trainer class, used in his battles on the SS Anne onward. In all of them, he uses regular Potions as healing items.

I want to add that it's like this because back then you had to share stupid little things in order to save space. The data for a trainer class is incredibly small by today's standards, but back then using the same space twice was always worth doing if you could.

I'd argue that Gen 1's programming is actually genius, considering how much data those cartridges can hold, how Much they managed to cram on there and space to save, AND how stable the game is. Yeah there's balancing issues and odd design choices BUT this game was literally groundbreaking with how much they could get onto the game without it being glitchy as hell. All these famous glitches were either a small oversight such as the 1 in 256, Or you have to go Really far out of the way to break the game, such as surfing where you can't normally surf using an npc and flight to align yourself to encounter misingno.

I really like unique Nuzlocke variations. It's impressive how much encounter research and planning must be involved to plan THIRTY-NINE unique and viable teams capable of finishing a Hardcore Nuzlocke.

Not to mention that if even half of his team die, he'll still need to stay by that rule. So if he ends up, say, getting wiped nearly-clean of his Pokémon from a particularly difficult fight he'll need to replace FIVE members, and have none of them be duplicates for in the future, or previously used! So he could end up with upwards of 50 teams from a few mistakes, or a few small crit-hits murderizing him, or a careless sacrifice for a clean switch-in Gosh I'm PUMPED to watch this!

I always thought it would be a fun idea to Nuzlocke each generation with encounters carrying over to each game but you took it one step further and I can't wait to see more. @@leaffinite3828 It's not a myth, it's just widely overstated to what degree. Elite 4 have less team members, you can choose the order you battle them, and they are all the same levels. This is all objectively easier. But it's not like it applies to every gym leader also, those are roughly the same difficulty as they always have been. Rival battles are a bit easier also. Evil teams are harder though. Before it was just like 6 pokemon that 4 teams of evil people used (excluding boss pokm).

From what information Ive seen, the potion at rival 6 is due to the shared location and trigger as the optional rival 1a. Since rival 1a uses a potion and trainers having a lot of things programmed to their physical location, so does rival 6

if I had to guess ahead of time, he's planning on using things like Mystery Gift, Pokemon Channel's Jirachi, and so on (assuming they work as early as first pokemon centre) so although he'll be forced into a fight to start the game, he can instantly "lose" the pokemon, and not break the rule. let's go Eevee he'll have eevee, and let's go pikachu, he can use the pokeball plus to get a Mew.

@@piousmage9583 "Nuzlocking" is a very loose concept. Level caps and not using items in battle aren't strictly nuzlocking either. But it would be really boring to just watch him grind to lvl 100 for every game. And if you want to watch the version of this where he doesn't pick the encounter he needs, good news! You actually can watch that version. Simply watch this video until he enters the cave with zubats. Then stop watching the video. Because that's as far as the series would get and lose because of bad RNG. So you can enjoy the series you'd prefer right here.

@@Winasaurus How is that the end of the series? He doesn't have to use Zubat on that run. Catches Zubat or gets lucky and gets to Paras. Then above Misty's gym has multiple chances for a Bellsprout which can beat Misty just as easily as Paras can. Not only that but it's Gen 1 Lanto which throws such ludicrously broken tm's at you that you don't even need a Grass type to beat Misty. You can run Raticate or a ton of other mons. Same with the chances of getting either a Mankey or Nidoran when using dupes. On top of that you say that Nuzlocking is a very loose concept which is very true. However from the very first Nuzlocke onwards there has been 3 core rules. 1: If your pokemon faints it's dead and you can't use it anymore. 2: You can only catch the first pokemon you encounter on each route. 3. Nickname your pokemon. From the start those have been the 3 core rules of what a nuzlocke is. A nuzlocke is essentially "faint=death, loss=restart" the rest is just tacked on to add extra difficulty or a bit of flavor to it (like the name rule, it don't add difficulty it's just there for a bit of flavor); which the extra rules you can follow or not depending on preference as long as your not like putting it on a leader board or anything like that, it's just for fun so there's literally nothing wrong with altering the unimportant rules

Sorry if i missed it, but what are you gonna do when you cannot use starters anymore? For example: BW B2W2 are 4 games with the same starters, can you then not use the starter in 1 of them? And if you would not evolve a Pokemon like Pikachu, are you allowed to use Raichu later? Or is the entire evolution line then banned?

Maybe it sliped over my head, but was you choosing the pokémon? Weren't it suposed to be the first one that appears? Or Are Paras 100% encounter on that part of mt moon and you used repel? Otherwise it would be a zubat garantee on that cave

@@kyleellis1825 i would argue that Nuzlockes have three core rules: 1) only one encounter per route can be caught 2) if a pokemon faints, it dies and you can't use it 3) you have to nickname your pokemon it's not "only the first encounter" its "only one encounter"

@@torazely No, that's a modification made by many people. Species clause is also another modification. But the base rule is 1st pokemon per route. Have you actually seen the first Nuzlocke comic(with the Nuzleaf named after John Locke from Lost)? It lays down the rules for them very clearly. People can call us gatekeepers all they want. But we aren't telling anyone they can't do a nuzlocke. We're just being very clear what the rules of them are because it seems a bunch of people have no idea where the challenge originated. A speedrun challenge/no item challenge/etc are all just as interesting and worthwile. But they aren't nuzlockes. This series isn't random and I haven't seen anything die in 3 videos. The death aspect of the challenge was integral to the origianl challenge. This is not a Nuzlocke when 2/3 rules have been broken/bent so far they may as well have been. Hell, the Nuzleaf the challenge is named after dies about 1/3 of the way through the run. And they caught several duplicate Zigzagoons that first run. I've seen people alter rules so they can't have a pokemon faint until it's caught up to the lowest level pkn in the party. This is cutting it close, but it's still a nuzlocke. I've seen people only nickname things when they put it the party (usually after they have already caught 10 pokemon.). This is still a nuzlock. It's still a nuzlocke if you use the species clause. It's even still a nuzlocke if you only get one encounter on a route. But you can fail encounters, none of these encounters got failed. To much of the random aspect has been taken away for this to truly be called a nuzlocke anymore. And again, I've already said that this is just a hatelock. Hatelocks are just playing through multiple pokemon games without using the same species again. This is a series wide hatelock and it is an incredible achievement. It is not a nuzlocke.

I doubt it - surely no way to get paras before encountering a zubat so technically this isnt a nuzlocke.... unless theres a trick used for each encounter

I believe it is still random chance! However, my guess is that if he has already encountered that pokemon before he will simply continue finding pokemon on that route until he gets a pokemon he hasn't gotten before.

For now I'm guessing Colosseum, XD, Legends: Arceus and Scarlet and Violet when they come out. Either that or you misspoke which is understandable, but I'm really curious nonetheless. Well for gen 1 with red, he somehow did not get a route 2 pokemon I think. Ok so what I mean is from pallet town you get access to route 1 and route 2, after that is viridian forest and the city Brock is in. So either that he did not mention Pokemon he caught but did not use, he KO it, he saved and reset until he encountered the pokemon he wanted, or just kept running from battles until he found the pokemon he wanted. Seriously so for the tunnel/cave you can get Geodude, but it is not as high percent as getting Zubat. Also Pidgey I believe is not as high chance for encounter on both routes 1 and 2 because you have better bets getting a Rattata. In Viridian forest you literally can not walk into grass without encountering a bug type. So either the forest was not counted because he does not consider a forest as a route or he KO it on purpose.

He mentioned in the safari zone that tauros was somehow the first encounter and that he wouldn't pass it up, so that sort of implies to me that he was seeking specific pokemon and not just the first encounter

Quick Question: is this a entire series Nuzlocke? Like, if you were to white out in Black 2, do you restart with Red? Or do you just restart Black 2? Because in the later games there would be the added pressure of not wanting to have to replay hours and hours of all the games you already got through. It seems like an interesting possibility for an extra rule.

Because of the species clause of his run (aka no repeats) he changed it from "the first pokemon in each route" to "only one pokemon from each route." Meaning he can chose which pokemon he catches, even if it's not the firstm
