The NVIDIA Titan RTX is a $2500 video card that's outfitted with 24GB of GDDR6, making it most suitable for VRAM-limited tasks on something with RTX 2080 Ti performance. That's really what we're working with, here: If you've wanted a 2080 Ti for some sort of production workload, like CUDA-accelerated rendering, but would be bound by 11GB GDDR6, the Titan RTX would be the alternative. People are still going to buy it for gaming and enthusiast use, though, and so we focused our initial testing on overclocking, gaming, power consumption, and thermals. The Titan RTX will not be made by board partners and is an NVIDIA-only part but, as we saw in our tear-down, it's just a 2080 Ti PCB. This means you could somewhat easily install a 2080 Ti cooler onto the Titan RTX, the "somewhat" mostly being that you'd need to find a 2080 Ti cooler. Waterblocks would work.

If AI wasn't pretty much the only thing left for the CPU to do while gaming these days, I'd suggest having the GPU do it in games too. But at that point I'd have to ask why Nvidia doesn't just sell a PC that's basically just a Titan RTX with a SATA header and a M.2 slot.

@@KiraSlith AI is usually better handled by the GPU, being repetitive simple commands in massive numbers. This is why the "cores" of the GPU are very slow but have massive counts while CPUs have much higher speeds but much lower core counts. If what you said above was true, then the CPU couldn't of bottle necked this GPU.

Also, this card doesn't have industry validated drivers, ECC memory and has a 1/32 scale for double precision. Let's be honest, those who would benefit from what this card (solely) offers in terms of deep learning would benefit more from the titan V, and for the chunk of change it demands, the interested parties would more probably care for a quadro/tesla. Being real, this card is solely to stroke gamer's ego and line Nvidia's pockets.

I really want to see a Titan RTX vs Titan V comparison for a wide range of testing, with games of course, but also possible workloads they may be under and if one of the 2 Titans is better in all or some or what. Not sure if that will happen, but I would love to see the results

The Titan V is usually 10-15fps slower than the RTX 2080ti in 4k. While in most cases the Titan RTX is 7-10fps faster than a RTX 2080ti in 4k. So we are mostly likely looking at a 20fps difference between the Titan RTX and Titan V. The Titan V could perform better however its hindered by it's very low clock speed and drivers.

I might be able to do such testing later next year - but without gaming or any direct X tests (sorry, don’t have Windows installed on the workstation). However, I’m betting that the RTX will be noticeably better at workflows that utilise the tensor cores and FP16/FP32 compute, but where FP64 is required there will be no comparison. I am interested to see the differences between the HBM2 and GDDR6 as well and what impact it might have, it will just be very hard to normalise for that.

Now I can test Disney quality simulations in 4k over night, and I could play games on high settings without any flicker. Many folks do not understand that developing test renders and playing around with freeware tools is exactly the same thing as playing with expensive software! Spend some money on your personal hardware and increase the value of their portfolio, whether you're an engineer or a designer this card will help you. This type of investment is much more than mining for crypto!

Glad I did because the market sucks now. Hopefully AMD and Intel's new GPUs in 2019 and 2020 actually have a high end to compete with cards like the 2080 and 2080Ti. AMD has been letting us down for years which is why Nvidia can get away with it.

Currently running a Titan X Pascal and looking to upgrade but I don't want a 2080Ti just seems like a step down but I i'm a little intimidated of the Titan RTX price, I sold all of my consoles, games, Apple watch etc.. and I even open up a quite a few checking/saving/IRA account because these banks offer cash to open a account for first time heck I got $350 from chase just opening up a checking and savings, Wells Fargo gave me $200 and Navy Federal gave me $100 just opening up IRA Bank of America cash back Credit card will give you $200 cash back if you spend over $500 on your first purchase after done all that raise $1700 and when I sale my Titan X Pascal I basically will have the money for this card but i'm going to wait after CES to make my decision, Wonder how this card stock up in final Cut Pro?

FYI, Lockheed Martin's Prepar3d flight simulator can easily exceed 11GB VRAM and upto 32GB RAM with the appropriate .cfg adjustments and add-ons. If you're interested in using flight simulators for testing, I would highly recommend you do as most 3D shooter type games aren't going to push GPUs are much as a flight simulator as it's render distances and texture sizes are far higher than 3D shooters.

Spray paint from Wallmart! The gold actually looks pretty nice (from the spray painting), so you could totally do it. Expect RTX heatsinks for $50 on Ebay later (people will be water cooling them), then you can spray paint it gold. However, it probably won't fit on your GTX 760 (capacitors will be in the way). But that's really if you only want it to look like the Titan, you can otherwise just simply paint the card you have gold (easier, cheaper, and "it just works").

Wondering why you didnt add a 'Nvlink(SLI) 2080' in there? You have everything else, like 1080 TI SLI, Nvlink 2080 ti. Are you just assuming, and expecting everyone else to know, that the 1080 ti and 2080 Nvlink/SLI pretty much the same? I am very curious why they arent in there. I have 2 2080's Nvlink'ed, and lately there seem to be some tweaks and my performance has been jumping pretty dang high in games, as opposed to previous early drivers and os updates. Not nit-picking, just wondering why there arent any 2080's in sli in this VERY well represented video card(s) review. Thanks.

Nvidia shares have plunged recently, off the back of an utterly disastrous fiscal Q3. from 283-down to 100 per share Nvidia: Headed For $100 The weakening cryptocurrency market, previously downplayed by management, had a very real effect on revenue, and the inventory issues created by mismanagement will have a material effect over the coming quarters. Coupled with slowing datacenter growth, a downturn in the overall chip space, and high powered competition (AMD, Intel, in-house), the Nvidia bull thesis is flawed. The stock may not have significant upside catalyst until 2H of calendar 2019, when Nvidia is expected to fully work through its inventory reset. By this time, the stock markets and global economy may be increasingly volatile. Without fundamental upside catalysts, slowing growth, and increased competition, the stock likely has more room to fall. Nvidia's stock remains a no-fly zone. Slashing PT from $232 to $100.

Somebody once told me that Titans are meant for Machine learning. Then why did AMD build a dual GPU card (HD 7990) to compete with the "GTX Titan" AKA the first Titan. It's odd. If you look at the last few generations of AMD GPUs, they are only really powerful (competitive with Nvidia's top products) when AMD builds a Dual GPU card. It seems AMD only really cares for the lower end to mid range market. Perhaps AMD will become like Chevrolet and Nvidia like Chrysler. One for the common man and one for the rich.

Do people know what a mess theses RTX cards are? I received my $1,391 bricked 2080 Ti straight from EVGA and sent it back the next day. Reading Amazon reviews, I found two different people on their 3rd attempt and many people who had bought a brick and simply refunded it. There are so many bad ones and unfortunately, I didn't learn just how much of a mess they are until I bought one.

So NVlink only shares card memory or uses the memory on both cards essentially doubling memory on Titan RTX and all RTX Quadro cards but does not - DOES NOT share memory on the RTX 2080ti and under lower end cards, right? That s what I understood from Peugeot Systems. Please clarify the memory usage on NVlink.

I think it is eorth mentioning that if you are either attending or teaching or affiliated with any school, college, or university, you can get a 500 USD discount off of the titan rtx graphics card from Nvidia or one of their authorized retailers by filling out a form on their website. This discount brings the cost down to 2000 USD or the same price of an oc labs galax hall of fame rtx 2080 ti. The key difference is the extra vram and the lack of AIB partner models on the Titan RTX graphics card, but those are minor problems for more vram for the same price. It is only really noticable if you render animations, or videos, do things in solidworks, or work with lots of calculations on the gpu in general like adobe illustrator, photoshop, adobe premiere, etc.

So let's get this straight. You received a defective unit that would not boost? At $2500 you would think that Nvidia would up their quality control. It's bad enough to get a faulty unit for a fifth of that spend but its basically unforgivable at that price point. Not a single defective unit should leave the factory at that price. Completely unacceptable.

Especially thirsty simulations like XPlane, DCS World or even Assetto Corsa / Project Cars I wonder if the VRam helps any for VR, since on my Oculus Rift and HTC Vive PRO the VRAM on my 1080 TI and now 2080 Ti is always maxed out...

Please do 8k testing to further stress the card and the gap widens even further. Rule of thumb: If a game is getting well over 60 fps already, beef up the settings even more, this way you can see more differences then you will otherwise. I bet you if you tested it at 8k(4800p), I bet the card will see alot more performance gap then 4k, try it.

Waiting for RTX to be enabled in a raytracer/pathtracer is kind of a stupid thing to say. You do realise that GPU rendering in vray or cycles or redshift depends more on the cards performance than a feature. Optix might gain an advantage due to RTX but as the rest are CUDA based I don't think you need to wait for RTX.

Morgan Stanley says the gaming performance of Nvidia's latest graphics card is below its expectations. In August, Nvidia announced its new eighth-generation Turing graphics architecture. Technology media outlets published reviews on the company's first gaming cards based on the new chips Wednesday morning. "As review embargos broke for the new gaming products, performance improvements in older games is not the leap we had initially hoped for," Morgan Stanley analyst Joseph Moore said in a note to clients on Thursday. "Performance boost on older games that do not incorporate advanced features is somewhat below our initial expectations, and review recommendations are mixed given higher price points." Nvidia shares closed down 2.1 percent Thursday. Moore noted that Nvidia's new RTX 2080 card performed only 3 percent better than the previous generation's 1080Ti card at 4K resolutions. "We are surprised that the 2080 is only slightly better than the 1080ti, which has been available for over a year and is slightly less expensive," he said. "With higher clock speeds, higher core count, and 40% higher memory bandwidth, we had expected a bigger boost." As a result he expects the adoption of Nvidia's new products to be "slower" and doesn't expect "much upside" from the company's gaming business in its next two financial quarters. Despite the disappointment, Moore reiterated his overweight rating and $273 price target for Nvidia shares due to the company's strong long-term technology position.

Steve - just a heads up you were right that a 3MO shunt resistor works. I tested mine yesterday and it boosts fine with those - all stock settings mine boosted to 1920mhz in Timespy during my testing, and held stable 1870mhz + barring slight thermal dip since it was passing 80C which of course dropped the clock a bit. Soon as my water cooling leak is dry I'll do some water-cooled testing with 2 in NVLink SLI.

I love the content you're doing (best in the biz IMHO), except one thing - your graphs are terrible :( They could use some clarity, like distinguishing between stock and OC models (maybe separate graphs for OC?), use some color coding (AMD/NVIDIA), better labeling of GPUs (type is more important than brand), bigger fonts sizes and overall reduction in clutter. That would be awesome ;) Thanks for all you're doing and happy holidays.
