@@phunned6007I think a big part of it is he didn't really make improvements to his quads from the front at all. Did he get bigger? Obviously he did, but all the gains went up to his upper body and and waist. Which created an even bigger imbalance imo.

From the back he’s close to unbeatable, side aswell (if the gut is in of course, which it usually is show day). Front looks horrible I agree. Way too big a disproportion between lower and upper.. his quads start to sweep so low.. all that contributes to very big imbalance and not pleasing to the eye at all.

Thank you to Mike for speaking the truth about Nick's physique! The waist is too wide, period. "Reverse turtle" from the front was an accurate description. Fouad talks about Bodybuilding Criteria but part of that "criteria" includes symmetry, shape and beauty of the physique. It's NOT just about size and hardness. It's also not a scoring contest of who wins how many mandatory poses. There is more to Bodybuilding than just the mandatories. It's about the physique as a whole - symmetry, shape, size, conditioning.

From a fan’s perspective (never competed, I’m still small, all that jazz): Mike is pretty much spot on in his critique about Nick unfortunately. Even I, as just a fan, don’t ever leave comments about Nick’s waist because he’s still a top tier pro and his personality is awesome. He’s one of my favorites not only in the sport but on podcasts as well. I doubt he needs to hear about it from some random dude on the internet.. but.. It’s a glaring weakness. It’s quite literally the single first thing you notice about him as soon as he’s on stage. He hides it from the back and sides but you barely see anyone’s stomach from those shots anyway. It’s not even a Jay Cutler situation where he’s just a husky guy. Nick’s stomach is 100% distended coupled with just a wide waist measurement wise. It’s not going to get smaller with less food and water. He might be able to control it better on any given show but it’s not going to shrink. To be 100% honest I think it’s past the point of him controlling it. If there is ever a shot (picture or video) where you can see his stomach whether it be on stage, a candid or training.. it’s distended. It sucks to say but it’s just true.

I’ve been saying the same thing and yes it’s highly unfortunate because Nick is such a disciplined BB. I don’t think Nick will ever win the Olympia. He will always be a top tier but with the next generation coming up with far better physics he will slowly drop out of the limelight light.

You guys make it seem like a week out a whole lot should change. You should already be ready by then and just be making minor tweaks so you can nail it on show days. Don’t hold your tongue on this. Derek is similar height, same with Hadi. They both keep their waist in control the entire time. Regardless of the coach that is the standard. Transitions matter, keeping it tight during posing practice matters, and keeping it in during a guest posing certainly matters. It’s the standard. Let’s not slip back and talk about this as if it’s the norm.

Nick's legs from the rear aren't just impressive because of his hamstrings and glutes. His quads from the back have an amazing sweep. He keeps his hips externally rotated and creates the x frame. His waist isn't bad from the back. Great back, great arms. It's astonishing how all that quad sweep disappears from the front. Waist looks blocky. The shortness of his legs compared to the length of his torso and upper body is also so much more obvious from the front. He looks nearly balanced from the back.
@datnip79
@datnip79 4 ай бұрын
It’s how he poses that gives the sweep from behind. You can’t have no sweep up from and sweep from the back. How he angles the knee outward gives the appearance from the back he has sweep. He can also afford to do that because his adductors or so big as his legs can be far apart with a gap in between. Just my opinion

1:00:30 damn, I usually disagree with Mike the most out of you guys but its strange to hear someone with a platform calling this much attention to it, the gut looks really bad inbetween shots and from the front. Obviously that will tighten up for the front double etc at the weekend, but the problems being seen are the weird love handle curves on the sides and the increasingly protruding gut and its a really poor look that should be punished as Mike says like a boxer thats been knocked down. Maybe its all for nothing if Nick brings it and he was just bloated, but its for sure approaching critical issue and will be interesting to see how Tyler Manion judges it at something like the O

Nick kinda blew out his mid section. I’ve been thinking that the whole year. I don’t think his abs will pop like when he won the Arnold

The only advantage I had from going strict science based training for last 2 years was my joint health. I've gotten smaller and weaker. It's largely because it's so damn boring and I can't keep the intensity.

Wait a second Iain. Didn’t you say that when you were bodybuilding you shit 5/6 times a day? It’s probably from all the bacteria on your food because you’d leave it out on your counter lmao. 😂

Thank god Mike’s says something about nick and his leg, about the way the guys forget to mention that Samson did beat him coz of his legs shrinks and with the wider stomach when you see nick Unfortunately for him you can see that the upper body is way bigger than the lower and the symmetry is gone For me he is on the way out and if he will start to get knocked out from the top 6 in the O I won’t be surprised

I’ve been saying this for months. Nicks lack of detail and separation in the front shots paired with the longer torso and short femurs was his knock before he was even injured. He didn’t do the Arnold because he wasn’t fully healed. So there is months and months of not being able to train legs properly. With him only being able to train upper body fully unfortunately it made his imbalances even further apart. No malice….just honest observation
