I was born in 1993 but it's always fascinating to see the world before me in realtime and not in the background of a movie.

Great quality. Nice style as well. Most of the video shots of NYC from this period look like the shooter was on speed. Cool to simply see street shots in real time; the way most of us remember the city back in the day.

I tend to not pay attention after 1983 but I lived in the city around 1985 till 1987. It was a special experience still.

Man, watching this vid makes me feel like I'm back walking the streets of Manhattan on a Saturday afternoon, hanging out in my old diggs in the Village, hitting Times Square back in the day with my crew---now, I hardly visit Manhattan. Can't remember the last time I was in the city. Goes to show you how much I DISLIKE it NOW--GOD I MISS THOSE DAYS!!!

You know, you have a point; my wife has an old friend who lives up in 80th and York and sometime last year we went to have lunch with her on a weekend. That neighborhood hasn't changed since I was born and raised in Manhattan! lol

Oh it so did it was the real new york new york back then not a fun house like it seems today. But thats why I like the upper east side it does not change much. and it has aways been a safe area too for years.

THATS how NYC should look. the fact that they are proposing a shitty nissan van thing as the "flagship" cab of the city beginning in 2013 is complete bullshit. I mean they're using a japanese car to represent America's most famous city! 20th century, we miss you!

@67tr876 seat belts in a new york cab ain't natural! but that sound vaguely familiar from the 90's. and i remember seeing some signs posted that made me laugh. like seat belts are gonna help you survive those rides? in the 80's it was still 'hang on for your life' -- there is a great film shot in nyc from that era with patricial arquette, i think, can't remember the name. gotta look that one up again.

@northbeachfilms haha ya o btw do you rember when you got in to a cab and the rock cats use to tell you to buckle up. Now idk if that was there in the 80s but I know sure in the 90s I heard that a lot when you got in to a cab. It was something like "Hi this is the rock cats telling you to buckle up for a self ride and plz come see use at radio city music hall" ya something like that.

I find it sad that people would have nostalgia from a time in NYC history when all you could see walking down 42nd Street is porn theaters, go go bars, and people trying to sell you cocaine. Oh and let's not forget the sky high levels of crime and low quality of life. NYC was terrible 30 years ago!
