There will never be another decade as special as the 80s, the movies, music, television, and everything else, were unique unto themselves. Every decade since has lost something, and today we have nothing much to define the decades to come. I wish that I could return to the 80's and stay there, but then it would be very much like groundhog day, I guess that it's best to just hold onto memories instead.

If you think the decade of the 1980s was special, you should have been here during the 1960s. That was the most interesting decade of the 20th century.

As the world becomes more visible in terms of sharing culture and behavior the harder it will become to have original ways of interacting. In the past people who traveled got to discover new ways of life and understanding so it was very interesting now much of the world you have scene or is at your finger tips.

Is it possible that you have this video, mislabeled...?? I only ask because WFAN playing in the background (begining around the 1:30 mark) mentions how Davey Johnson was fired by the Mets. That didn't happen until *1990*, and not...1987.

I remember back then,. we didn't have social media, no facebook, no youtube. most of the computers, and tvs were huge and bulky, not flatscreen. I remember I was just 14yo at that time. There were no smartphones, but we had the house phones back then. Wow, have times changed, in the sense of technology. Now if you want to talk to a friend, you have to use your smartphone , and not the house phone. Now, you can talk to your friends or relatives on Facebook, you can't talk to them face to face anymore. Back then you actually hung out at your friends house, now you hang out with your friends on Facebook, snapchat and the other social media. I truly miss the 80s.

I remember ICQ when I was about 13 in 2000. Some of my friends used it then to communicate with school friends or friends from the town or county over to throw parties and stuff for the weekend. You could post stuff to your profile or instant message people. It's actually pretty crazy how far ahead of its time it was. Just not enough people had access to the internet yet. The first computer we had was purchased at one of those rent to own places and my mom ended up paying like $4,000 all total and was still paying for it long after we didn't even have it anymore. Crazy how much the world has changed in my lifetime and I was only born in 1987, the year of this video.

Thanks for the upload! It is 2019 now. And 1986 was the first time I visited NYC as a teen. Wow this encapsules exactly the feeling and vibes that NYC had for a 1st time visitor. I was soooo overwhelmed by the almost exotic diversity, the smells and the noises. The streets were almost jumping. I had never ever seen something like that. Also fun to see Trump Tower in this clip. Was inside in 86. Guess it was built a year or a couple of years before. At that time it was kind of unique and impressive with the marble and waterfall. I accompanied my dad on a business trip and I asked him "How can I earn so much money to build such a tower?" And I remember his response very well: "In any case not with honest work." Period. At that time I did not know what to make of it. Back in the day I thought every American only by working hard could achieve something. Today I know better ;) I know NYC back then was not "paradise on earth" actually it was dangerous. I couldn't understand how my dad didn't let me out at night alone (as you would've wanted as a teen of course) Our hotel was around Times Square which was totally different back then. It cannot be compared to what it is like today. I would have never believed such a change would EVER be possible at all!!! It is unreal! But even knowing all this was not necessarily "better", I do know from my last visit (2016) that the NYC of today has lost its character. It could be anywhere. Times Square might've been edgy or seedy back then. But it had character. ALL kinds of people belong to a city - and ESPECIALLY to THE city of the world (as it used to be) NYC!!! It is nice to sit now in a safe and clean Park but where did all the normal, even crazy people that simply just belong to a city go??? Where are artists? There's nothing "special" anymore about NYC. I do remember Breakdancing, Preachers, perfomance artists and yes also street people of all kinds were in the streets back then. Normal people and even less fortunate could afford living in this city. They were part of it and added character. Today it seems to be a place only for well to do and the rich - and that is ... jep, almost boring?! Times Square has become a Disneyland and everything else is like a huge open air mall. It is sad. And I am glad I had the opportunity to have seen both NYCs as it was in the 80s as well as today. Thanks again. This clip is history!

I spent the summer of 1988 in NYC. I was at my Uncle's home in Sunnyside, Queens. I am from Europe. My Uncle was, I guess much cooler dude than your dad, lol. Since he worked most of the time, he urged me to go to Manhattan alone. He said, "Come on, you're not a kid," when I was 15. "Take ten bucks, take Subway, and go to Manhattan and have fun. It's easy." He said, "If you get lost, you can phone me, and I'll pick you up..." hahaha, but I never did. So, it was during the day, but anyway, it was not that dangerous. Parts of NY weren't safe, but you would know where not to go. Harlem was one of those places, and I was so keen to go there because, at the time, basketball was everything to me, and I wanted to play there. Unfortunately, my Uncle said it's the only part he wouldn't take me. Some streets and parts of Queens were not so safe too, but as I said, it's almost like everywhere; if you know where to go and where not to go... you're good to go :)) Thanks for the video; such a joy to watch it! Cheers!

@Tony Richards Wrong. The radio host, Pete Franklin, said the Mets didn't extend Davey Johnson's contract beyond the next season, essentially making him a lame duck. He used the word "fired" rhetorically. Franklin also mentioned the Football strike possibly coming to an end, which it did on October 15, 1987. This video is from 1987.

Hey, but that's what MADE New York NEW YORK! I was born and raised here, and used to it--I was in a street gang, I got pummelled, mugged, punched and I dished out some, too. Call me Old School BUT I was used to the hustle-n-bustle, rudeness, graffitti, hookers in good, ole Times Square, the high crime rate, the works. What many people, esp.outsiders don't realize is, THAT was ALL the REAL soul of NYC!!! Like Sinatra sang," IF you can make here, you can MAKE IT ANYWHERE"! How true that is.

I grew up on them but moved to Philadelphia in 1986. NYC was still very "gritty" back then but the signs of gentrification were there. Good stuff. Almost 30 years later, people are dressed pretty much the same now as they were then. The men might have worn a few more suits in those days, and the hair length is a bit shorter today. Quite the contrast compared to 1967 to 1977 when everything changed. The main change compared to now is that there are many more Latinos and Asians today. But you could transport your average person back in time to 1987, and they would fit right in.
@BobSmith-vg2or

Interesting perspective. I don't really agree with you, but I do think things changed more between say 1955 and 1975 than between 1975 and today (not that I was alive then, but what I can tell). Still, I don't think a Gen Y'er or Z'er would easily fit in it dumped into the 80s in a time machine. It would take them a few weeks at least to get the gist of it, and a lot longer to really understand the culture.

@efreet02 9 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty much talking about how people look. I agree the culture has shifted dramatically. I'm not yet 50, and I pretty much don't understand anyone under 30. Go back and compare 1965 and 1975, and you'll see what I mean about the rapid changes during that period, in a relatively short time frame.

The most heartbreaking thing, is watching everyone pass by the homeless man. So many people missed that opportunity to give him a few dollars, or more...what a cold sad world we live in. That was so sad...poor guy. He probably felt so unloved and uncared for. Jesus says, when we take care of the poor by feeding and clothing them, we are actually giving to Jesus, Himself. I remember when I was in my 20's, this poor homeless guy asked me for money to buy a meal. I was not saved then, and didn't care much for anyone but myself. I didn't give him the money, yet instead bought a meal for myself. I was so evil and wretched then, but Jesus has saved me and remade me into a child of Christ. I know better now though, and I care for the homeless and look for opptys to help them. God admonished me for my selfishness then, and I will never forget that homeless man, how sad he was when I did not give him the money. How awful I was back then!! Please give to those who are in need, especially the homeless, whenever you can. God has a huge heart for the homeless, read the scriptures and you will see.

I'm sorry I was not meaning to sound crass . I meant people who own these tapes .I have been binge watching these 80s and 90s videos . From what I'v heard the video cassette tape contains enough information to convert it into an HD video by a high quality digital scan of it . I think the process is expensive Have you looked into it ?

Also there were no Beepers or Cell Phones and Hip Hop and Rap had not yet taken a hold on main stream music in this country. Also you will notice is that nobody is walking around with their pants sagging unlike today where as a lot of people insist on showing off their ass by letting their pants fall down below their Ass-Crack. What in God's name is that all about anyway? Can anybody tell me?
@thornimation5492
@thornimation5492 6 жыл бұрын
moviemagg, I dunno what that's a all to be honest. And I was born in 1997, 10 Years after this video was filmed and late enough that I don't remember the 20th Century. I think the idea of wearing your pants below your ass-crack must have began in the 1990s. And it was definitely common by 2005, for in the film Borat, released in 2006, Borat did just that, when a bunch of homies on the street taught him how to do it. Have you seen the film, Borat? But I can tell you this, when I was about 10 years old and in primary school a boy in my class decided to wear his trousers low for a day and hid his underwear in his shirt. And at some point in that day, he got into a fight with somebody else in my class and we saw it. I know, it was rude, but at that age me and other friends just laughed it off. By the way, I don't live in the USA, I live in the UK, where school uniform is still the law for all school children until the age of 16, when Year 11 ends. Only in 6th Form were we allowed to wear our own clothes.

I have not seen the film but I will look for it. I believe the sagging of the pants as to show off your ass and underwear like a little three year old kid would do, was started in the prison system in this country. They also started the fad of wearing open toed flip flops with socks instead of sneakers or shoes. It's all a prison thing.
@thornimation5492
@thornimation5492 5 жыл бұрын
@@moviemagg and I think that first appeared on the streets in the USA in the early 1990s, once Mass Incarceration had caused the Prison to increase high enough. Mass Incarceration began in the early 1980s, I think 1982, when the current War on Drugs was declared.

Fantastic video! I was 4 at this time and we had just moved from Staten Island to NJ. I was exposed to the city at a very young age so a lot of this does light up many familiar memories in my mind's archives! What's great is that this is not a movie - just candid footage of thousands of ordinary people going about their business. No yuppies or hipsters either, yay!... though the trade off is rampant crime and decay in many parts of the city.

Never forget the era when we had everything we have today, but personalized cleanly on a singular genre specific piece of technology, not the "worldwideweb" we have today where anyone can see anything useless and dangerous, and usually never helpful either, not that we ever ask questions that really make it useful. Anyway, the city felt tall and large back then, the also very personalized towers of today are just too thin, they don't really feel tall, there always glass, have some geometric disfigurement, and have the interior that makes you say "yah I'm going to guess this is a room with a view type pricing." 70 percent goes to the location, 30 percent the home.

Jesus is our Lord and Savior. Jesus is God in flesh. Jesus is the one true God. We are all sinners and we all fall short of the glory of God. Jesus came to the Earth and died for sins to be washed away so can make it to Heaven. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and the only way to Heaven. U have to do more than just a believe in Jesus to make it to Heaven tho. U have to do the Lord's will. These are the things the word of God told us we have to do be forgiven for our sins, saved, and make it to Heaven. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Repent from your sins. Get baptized in the name of Jesus. Have a deep relationship with Jesus. Love everyone Forgive others Obey God's commandments. Speak the word of God to the world. Do the Lord's will until the end. There is nothing more important than God. This life is jus temporary but Heaven and Hell is forever. Your true purpose in life is to follow Jesus, have a deep relationship with Jesus, walk with Jesus, learn about Jesus, and lead others to Jesus. God has so many commandments it's 613 of them and it's impossible to obey all of them all the time. U are gonna make mistakes and God knows U can't be perfect that's why Jesus came to the Earth and died for our sins to be washed away. God jus wants U to try your hardest to not sins, to obey his commandments, and to do everything he wants U to do and when U do sin he jus wants U to be honest with him and admit to your sins, ask for forgiveness of your sins, and ask Jesus to help U not give into temptation of sins. Hell wasn't meant for us it was meant for Satan and the other fallen angels. Satan decieved the first humans and caused them to sin and the world become corrupt and most humans choose not to follow Jesus. Satan is decieving people and there are so many people heading to Hell. Satan, the fallen angels, evil spirits, and Satan's followers the Illuminati, the richest families in the world and the Free Masons, they all control the world from the governments, the economy, drug trade, Hollywood, movies, TV, radio, news, science community, schools, and even religion and they are lying to U, decieving U, trying to brainwash U, and trying to keep U from the truth. They don't want U to follow Jesus. Those people are Devil worshippers that sold their soul to the Devil for fortune, fame, and power. They promote sin thru movies TV and music, they try to get U disobey God, they don't want U to follow Jesus, they poison your food water and medicine, and they are trying to create a One World Government that Satan will come as the AntiChrist and will rule the world in the last days. And they are gonna try to make U take the mark of the beast on your forehead or forearm and if U take it U will automatically go to Hell. And they are gonna try to kill U. Religion is being used to confuse people. That's why there is so many different religions and there should only one religion and that's Jesus. Christianity is even doing things wrong. It has many different religions inside one religion and they are all making their own interpretations of the Bible instead of going exactly what the word of God says. When Christianity was started the Romans took several books out the original Hebrew Bible. Most churches and preachers don't speak the full truth of the Bible they are presching false doctrines. Most of them also follow the traditions of men instead of obeying God's commandments. They are celebrating the Sabbath on the wrong day Sunday the first day of the week instead of Saturday the last day of the week. They are baptizing people the wrong way in the name of the Father the Son and the Holy Ghost instead of in the name of Jesus. And alot of them celebrate false Paegan holidays that are satanic. And U don't have to go to church cause Jesus never commanded us to. jesus set his church up on the rock with his disciples and we are suppose to be disciples of Jesus so the us the followers of Jesus is the real church not a building. Church buildings are jus places U can go to praise God, have a fellowship, and learn the word of God but U can do those things anywhere anytime. It's better to make sure U read the Bible yourself and learn the word of God and make sure the church is going exactly of the word of God. If U Love Jesus then U will obey his commandments. U show Jesus U Love him by your actions. Don't live for the worldly things like money, materialistic things, attention, and other stuff, live for Jesus. Dont follow the world follow Jesus. And Jesus is coming back soon.
