How do people in NYC afford to live there?

@dt nyc You are probably correct! I mean, how does someone in their late 20s or early 30s afford to pay the outrageous rental prices by themselves? Impossible!

That price is a whole months wage here in Texas. You can rent a whole 3 bdrm 2 bath home here in Texas for $1200 month.
@4Paczjkor
@4Paczjkor 6 жыл бұрын
Roger Murphy that’s because NY Apartments comes with a lot of amenities such as laundry mats, elevators, doorman’s, gyms, upper decks etc, depending on where you live it can affect the price because NYC itself have a lot to offer.

$3450/ month wahhhhhhhhhh? That's more than 3 months rent for me. I live in a one bedroom apartment right across the street from a nice park surrounded by restaurants, 5 minute walk to the train and I don't pay that much.

What I don't like about most of these apartment is the bathrooms are sooo far from the bedrooms. If you have a friend in the living room or even without anyone there as well. But you're literally crossing the entire place (like the 1st aptmt). Bathroom by the entry way, walk through the living to go to your room.

Yeah its crazy, that's NYC for ya! And also because it is in a luxury building with amenities such as a gym and a washer and dryer in each unit (which is rare in nyc) so that is why its a little more than the average NYC apartment, also this building was right on the water in BK so the view was amazing.

One of the benefits of being broke is that we qualified for affordable housing though the housing lottery. And i say this because that room is absurdly small and here you are talking about how big it is. Like no, that room is small and those apartments were all what, 600 sq ft?

As a new yorker/brooklynite, i hope you didn't take these overpriced apartments. Go to Long island city in queens, astoria in queens or Roosevelt island, all cheaper and well located. I lived on RI in a 1br for around 2400...the 1br was about the size of the one you showed

Anne Raso Correct. Our family invest in REIT, and I can tell you from first hand that these apartments are overpriced to the tilt. We laugh when we hear what people are paying for rent in the city. But there are suckers everywhere. This girl is prime example as to why and how the builders and management companies get away with charging that high of rent.
