"I will increase the light" that's why I absolutely love the smart plugs, it is so easy to just go into the app on my phone and change the on/off time.

So trueeee.. Half my lights are not tied to an app and the plug is a little complicated 😂 Labiata x RM is growing nicely btw ❤️

Your hoyas are fabulous! Not that your orchids aren't fabulous, because they are, but seeing the hoyas all together like that is so delightful! Thanks so much for sharing your space, Nicole. It's always nice to see how your beautiful orchids are grown. 😍❤

Enjoyed this video as I always do. I also grow under lights in upper Manhattan; as my grow room is also my living room I don't use the intensely bright grow lights. I grow a lot of Rhipsalis instead of Hoyas because of that. I like Hoyas but have no more room for any more trailing plants. Nice to see yours. Your suggestion of the MSU fertilizer has really really helped my Phals. Thanks!

I'm so glad it's been helpful! Growing in the city can be done even without the sun 🌞 ❤️ I'm probably at my limit with the hoyas but, I keep getting clippings that I know are gonna get huge 😂 thank you for watching ❤️❤️❤️

What an excellent use of space! And I love your shelves and lighting. They look like they fit perfectly. What kind of lights and shelves do you use?

Thanks so much, I use the orchid hobbyist lights and use 3 foot shelves and liners. I have them linked in the description ❤️

Your orchids are wonderful. Out of all or most of the orchid growers on you tube, your advise is what I follow. I was just wondering, The plastic shelves on your metal shelving units, Can I ask where you got them? And, how do you keep up with so many plants?
@NicoleDeanna Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much ❤️ I have the shelf liners linked in the description. I got them from Amazon. It's hard to keep up with so many plants frankly. I try to do a little bit of the plant chores every day so that things don't build up. Flushing them I do it little by little. Thanks for your lovely comment ❤️

Hi Nicole; Thank you for very helpful video. I started with supermarket phals and oncidiums 3 years ago then I added cattleyas and others. I have been learning from orchid growers who share their valuable experiences in youtube and you are one of them. My set-up is similar to yours and it's kind of relieving to be able to compare and see if I am in a right way. In the beginning I lost many orchids because of burning root tips, obviously feeding 300 ppm rainmix-RO water in semi-hydroponic and not flushing as much as I should. Now around 150 ppm in organic media in summer and I'm not sure if I have to flush or not. Would you please make a video update about feeding and flushing differences in organic and inorganic mediums? Thank you again!😇Have a nice weekend!🥰Many hugs from Hungary!🥰
@NicoleDeanna Жыл бұрын
Starting with Phals is how it goes huh?! :) I appreciate you watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! For flushing, in semi hydro it seems much more important bc when the water reservoir dries up, it leaves the salts behind and if there's no water left the leca gets really dry and bad for the roots. Organic seems more forgiving in my experience. I try to flush every month, but realistically it doesn't happen till every two months or more sometimes which isn't ideal but I'm pretty busy so I do what I can. I'll think about a way to tackle this topic, or maybe do another q&a video and address there. Thank you so much for watching ❤️

Thank you so much for all your terrific and informative videos! I've used your links to buy shelving, lights, liners, etc. In one of your videos (which I can't find now) you talked about how you attached those grow lights to the top shelf? Are they Sansi bulbs? And what wattage? Thank you!
@NicoleDeanna3 ай бұрын
@@christianer7802 I appreciate you supporting me 🤗♥️ The bulbs are Sansi and they are 40 or 45 watts. They work well but I have to replace them every year because they burn out kind of quickly I think.

This is such a nice setup. I have the same shelving and it keeps quite a few plants in my spare room. I have to get new lights for this fall/winter. : Do you just use zip ties to position the lights, or do you use something else? I don't mind the deli cups for some plants, but I have nowhere near as many orchids as you so I can keep them watered. I am trying self-watering plants for some other plants and I'm hopeful they work out.
@NicoleDeanna Жыл бұрын
I use zip ties to secure all the lights. About a year and a half ago I did a video when I set all of the shelves up if you wanna check it out. Self watering can work really nicely for many plants. I hope all goes well for you ❤️

Hey Nicole , Your orchid & Hoya collection is beautiful ~ you are my favorite KZbin channel. Can I ask what would you recommend for phal’s as a medium, I’ve been using moss they seem to be doing well ~ would you recommend coconut husk or bark . I’m also repotting cattleyas what would you suggest. Thank you
@NicoleDeanna Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! ❤️ In NYC moss works really well for my phals. I like a mixture of bark and moss for my cattleyas. I have moved away from husk because I thought it would be more moisture retentive. With that said, it worked well, but I had to water it more! Happy growing 💗

I have my Phals in the same deli pots. Do you have holes in yours? I did not see drip saucers.
@NicoleDeanna Жыл бұрын
I do have holes in the bottom. I don't use saucers on them but have a shelf liner that gets the dripping, but tbh it's messy bc I can't see the water levels with the algae and over pour water, and it gets everywhere. I look forward to getting everything out of the set up soon lol

What will you repot them in? What substate?

@@NicoleDeannaI'm still trying to get my lighting just right with all of the various full spectrum grow lights I've accumulated over the past few years. I'm more likely to give them too much light. It's taken months for me to find a spot shady enough for my golden jewel orchid. The ludisia discolor is a lot less picky about light.
