I used to work at H&M on 34th street in Herald square. One day i went to buy lunch at grays papayas i think it was called, a hot dog spot anf this aged white man was standing across the street with a sign that says “please need money for food! Im hungry!” I bought an extra hot dog combo and i exited out went straight to him and offered him a meal and he said “no thank you”. I assured him i just purchased it from the store behind me and he still declined and i said okay and left. Gave the extra meal to my coworker. Most of the “homeless” in Ny are 1 of three people, scammers, mental problimatic agents of chaos, or the ones that dont want to eat or better themselves- they want drugs and alcohol to get high until they’re dead. My delivery guy saw a woman shooting up heroin on 10th avenue by my job a month ago and he told her “that shit’s going to kill you” and she replied “im already dead.” I just avoid them at all cost and i think thats the common mindset with NY’ers, most of these people dont want help.

I don't know if "most" homeless are scammers. Some certainly are. Having said that, I see more and more homeless and crazy people on the trains. Then the times were good, neither DeBlasio nor Cuomo were addressing the issues and now the problem is magnified by pandemic and recession. There's a youtube channel that's called Invisible People. Aside from helping homeless, they let them speak for themselves. It's quite an eye opener. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKSzaZ-uZrJskNE

The NY pays more in taxes than it gets from the federal government argument seems valid until you look closer. I heard an interview once from California congressmen Tom McClintock talk about this since Californians were using the same argument. The deficit actually exists because people retire from places like California, New York and New Jersey and move to low costs states like Nevada, Florida and Texas and bring their state funded pension money with them. The states pay billions in pensions and the retirees spend the money in other states. It’s the states fault for taxing people to death.

IR heaters works well for outdoor dining in colder climates. One trick to know when pedaling with a camera on the head or bike - if trying to lift the other leg, then the pedaling gets smoother and the front wheel (and camera) will not swing as much left/right. It's possible to get smooth pedaling even if not using bike shoes with cleats.

Jesus, louis. As someone who's worked with people who're homeless, the vast majority are people who had no support network to begin with. In fact the vast majority are ex-service men or care leavers. They didn't fuck over anyone. But they lost their job, or lost their home, and had nowhere else to turn so they ended up on the street. Christ, if my landlord decided to sell my flat tomorrow, I'd struggle to find a place i could afford, and i couldn't rely on friends or family because they all live a way away. I'm just as likely to wind up homeless as anyone, and i work full time and rarely piss anyone off (except on youtube).
@theblackhundreds71243 жыл бұрын
The vast majority are *not* the examples you said. Those are the ones who fell through the cracks and its a terrible fate. The majority of homeless in America are people with serious mental issues or drug addicts. Not "normal and mentally healthy" people as you say. If mental asylums would not have released all their patients because of the outcry in the 70s and 80s, we would not have such a large homeless population. This is because America has a habit of throwing away something that is broken instead of fixing it because that is easier.

A "rainy career fund" as you put it, is a common thing people do in countries/cities with reasonable wages and a reasonable cost of living where saving money is possible. In Australia it's usually called a FU fund or FU money, Dave from EEVblog talked about it in a video. Basically it's enough savings for you to live for 6 months with no income. Having it available means you're never scared about losing your job. You have the power to threaten to quit (and go through with it) if your employer pulls any crap, You're always free to go FU to the boss and leave.

Well, since you took down the Gnome video, just wanted to add that Ubuntu as a core thankfully has some of the highest compatibility for a variety of software and alternatives, including DEs (desktop environments). While you may or may not have the time, I would wholeheartedly suggest switching to Mate or Cinnamon as a DE, and if you want to dive headfirst into productivity workflows, something like Regolith or plain i3. Despite Pop OS (custom distro based on the Ubuntu core) being a pretty good OS on its own, the first thing that I always do is switch the DE since it ships with a customized Gnome 3 DE, and while it takes a bit to get used to, Regolith/i3 is literally unbeatable for productivity once you learn the controls.

I think that in many instances, especially in NYC, landlords shouldn’t be bailed out because they are essentially treating real estate like a stock market. Buying dividend stock is like buying real estate you make an initial purchase in hopes that you will be paid a certain amount every couple months and maybe later down the road you sell the stock for higher than you bought it. So to sum it all up I think landlords shouldn’t be bailed out.

20:20 - that's a rather ignorant way of looking at it, it assumes that those homeless people even had those people to piss off... Or it assumes that they pissed them off on purpose, and not because of something like mental illness. E.g. someone comes from a low income household where a family member was always abusive, they finally manage to try and move to e.g. NYC to get away from their old life. But they struggle to meet people due to their abusive upbringing. After e.g. 3 months there they get laid off for something entirely not their fault, and get evicted not long after. Ok now they don't know many people, but one person offers them their couch for a few weeks. Sadly due to the job market and housing market there's a good chance they will get kicked out before that. So no they can easily end up on the street without pissing anyone off. That's not the majority though. The majority are people with serious mental health problems who need serious help.

Sometimes people just don't have good support systems and the few people they know may not have anything to give. They can also be socially awkward. That was my situation. I've been homeless multiple times in multiple places looking for the opportunity to work because where I'm from the economy is bad. I'm a black sheep though and have had bad social skills so that made it hard for me to get jobs when I found out at most places they don't care about your qualifications. They only care about how much you make them feel like they're your best friend even you're polite and professional. Having social skills is something people really take for granted but if you're a dork and grew up isolated without siblings or parents that engage you that way that shit doesn't just develop out of no where. I'm waayy better now but for the longest I couldn't even converse with people.
