What surprises me is the short run between terminals. it surprises me that they keep this line. Running nine car trains on such a short distance seems hard to believe that they consistently have enough ridership to keep the line running especially in todays strict rules for maintaining a cost effective short system.

You'd be surprised at the traffic the J has. In the AM rush, around 6/7/8 it would be packed. Same for the evening. It connects to multiple other lines (A/C/E/F/L/M/N/Q/R/2/3/4/5/6) so it easily lets you go to multiple parts of the city
@santiago102611 ай бұрын
Trains usually run 10 mins between each other, but after midnight, frequency is reduced kinda drastically since not many people are taking it, cutting some costs. However that can probably be said about multiple lines throughout the system

@TheRailLeaguer4 жыл бұрын
David Wu Agreed. Also too long. Currently, J/Z passengers coming from Jamaica empty the train at Broadway Junction after being fed up with the slow travel times to Lower Manhattan. These guys usually crowd the A train to get to Lower Manhattan faster. To mitigate this, a new connection between the Broadway Line and the Fulton Street Local tracks, as well as a new subway under Jamaica Avenue from the Fulton Street Line to Jamaica Avenue El will be built, replacing the elevated structure over Fulton Street. The 5 stops would be replaced with two: Artlington Avenue and Highland Place. From here, the R and W would be rerouted from the 4th Avenue Line to the Fulton Street Line local tracks, allowing for the C service to be express to Lefferts Blvd, allowing for A service to solely serve Far Rockaway. Using the existing track infrastructure in Brooklyn and Queens, the R would travel to Euclid Avenue and the W would take over the J train to Jamaica Center. The J would operate between Broadway Junction and 95th Street, with the Z becoming part of this new J train. In addition, the R and W would also be rerouted to the Astoria Line, which would be extended to LaGuardia Airport. The N would be rerouted to 96th Street. At this point, the R would be based out of Pitkin Yard and the W out of East New York Yard. This would be a separate project in of itself since it would involve lengthening the platforms on the Jamaica Avenue El as well as modifying the yard for longer trains. To replace the R on Queens Blvd, a new K route would be created. Using the existing track infrastructure in Manhattan and Queens, the K would operate between 71st Avenue and World Trade Center via Queens Blvd Local and 8th Avenue Local. The M would be rerouted via 63rd Street, and the C and D routes swap so that the C is the 8th Avenue express from Canal Street to 145th Street, then on the Concourse Line to Norwood-205th Street, while the D would be 8th Avenue local from 59th Street to 168th Street. Any future changes to E, F, J, K, and M train service will grow out of my developing plans for the Nassau-8th Avenue connection.

I can never understand the logic of yellow or red signals for no apparent reason. There are clearly no trains ahead. Forcing trains to crawl between stations and even into stations just delays customers and induces unnecessary motion sickness.
