How could they possibly live there with the smell? The fridge was on top of that probably contaminating the food. Hope they’re no children there. Who knows what else is living under that floor with all that sewerage? At first he said landlord left the caps off but than I think I heard him say the last drain said to leave it off. Hope he showed this to landlord immediately and called the city health inspector. You did an awesome job for them trying with the extra snake, last guy didn’t so he figured just let the basement fill up. Goes without saying but I’m sure you put new caps on!! The best!! 👍

Are you required to report the exposed sewage to the city/county/etc? I would think that a licensed sewer cleaning business has to be a Mandatory Reporter. Seems like a landlord like that won't do a thing unless he gets pressured by authorities. It looked like spliced white telephone wire floating in there along with the ground cable and anchor. Disgusting upkeep.

Now all they have to do is rip all the floors up. Have someone come in and excavate the 2 tons of sewage and get it back down to clean dirt. New moisture barrier and rebuild the house. Can't imagine how much it will take to make that livable again and how much they WONT do it. My ex-wife had a rental house, the main sewer bell broke in the basement. The 4 families living there dint say a word for months. Until the level in the basement got up to about waist level. I couldn't imagine living with that much deadly methane gas all around and sick everyone must get.
