@@itsjustmollyyy4481 seriously doubt there’s any current MLB hitter who can’t hit a ball out if given the right pitch- all they meant to say was that Dee Gordon wasn’t ever the best power hitter, but he could still hit 85 straight down the middle with no movement out of the park, and Bartolo (being the absolute legend that he is) grooved him one.

As many times as I've seen this clip, I've never noticed that you can actually hear Dee sobbing as he's walking down the steps. The old adage "no crying in baseball" does not apply here. I remember this like it was yesterday and, even as a non-Marlins fan, I cried. One of the most iconic moments. Props to the Mets for giving the team some time to savor the moment, and props to the Marlins announcer for stating quiet and letting the moment play out.
@SgtPrice10005 жыл бұрын
Bartolo’s a pitcher. Bartolo’s a competitor. Bartolo would never deliberately send such a crushable pitch like that. And yet...he wanted that home run hit as much as anyone in that park that evening. Mad respect ✊ The game came second that night.

As a Marlins fan, it was the first thing I thought of seeing Trout’s home run. I couldn’t feel the same emotional impact but still got me misty eyed just watching that moment for the Angels. Watching this Dee Gordon homer still impacts me deeply today. You can see the fans crying in the crowd. Rich Waltz clearly broke down. The fact it was a leadoff homer by our smallest player is just incredible. What I really wanted to see again was Colon’s pitch. Very similar to the one against Trout. I suspect both were delivered with intent for that final result to come about. That to me is the most moving fact of it all, if true. There are things more important in these moments than making a guy swing and miss. Appreciate the pitchers for understanding it. Miami still mourns and misses Jose. Hopes he’s resting in peace.
