I serve in the UK police. Generally people will get in their own cars but often officers will just pile into one car and rush off. Sort of just depends. If you have one blue light trained driver and 3 other officers standing around when it happens they'll pile into one car. If you have two blue light drivers each with a passenger, they'll get into their own cars. @@arguedscarab7985

In the NYPD, officers don’t have their own cars. The vehicles are pool vehicles and are handed over to the next set of officers at the end of the shift. So not all the officers turning out to the panic button will have car keys - the driver of their car for the shift might be unavailable, they might work in a different department and be turning out to help a colleague in distress. There’s loads of possibilities. They’ll simply get in any car that’s available.

I called a few times for backup in the South Bronx. I kid you not, guys would move buildings if they had to, just to get to you. Brooklyn North was the same. Don't know how how it is now, but cops are not allowed to be cops. That's why crime is going up. But that's rocket science to the people who are running the system and don't understand reality. . I think that city ramble is a reason why folks enjoy cities, the vehicles, the people, the sirens, the buildings, there's a comfort in knowing that people are everywhere, a comforting feeling being surrounded by constant activity, in a place designed and built by people. The quiet Countryside, a city that never sleeps, they ultimately induce the same feeling, comfort, it just depends on whether you enjoy the quiet repetition of the Country, or the loud familiarity of the city, that's the best I can describe it XD. There's a beauty in both, you just gotta look at it the right way. There's also more jobs, more advantages, more housing, easy access to public services, etc. But that answer isn't as fun to read or as poetic sounding :p

Well, Carbon Motors tried this exact thing with their E7 model. The company shut down in 2013. Part of the issue with it is that the car was expensive and couldnt grab mainstream appeal. The car was not able to be auctioned off after service because it was near impossible to civilianize the car. As nice as it would be, a dedicated police car just wouldn't work because the market simply doesn't see fit something like that.
@ultra_vires2 жыл бұрын
Not strange in the slightest, it's the same all over the world. A police vehicle fleet needs to accommodate multiple uses - response work, officer transport, prisoner transport, simple transit for non-emergency work, unmarked policing, highway patrol, surveillance work, detectives. Can you find one model of car that does all that? Also, if there's a product recall and you use that one vehicle for your whole fleet, you're in trouble. You do not want that for an emergency service (replacement ermergency vehicles are not as easy as just hiring a bunch, they're all fitted and specialised). Mixed fleets are more responsible.

I drove over 100 mph to get to my colleague who was wrestling with a subject...in a 45mph zone...only to finally get there just as the situation came under control. I tried. Oh, and you don't want to cry wolf on these situations, either by pressing it accidentally or by pressing it when you're not in dire need.

I think all American cops should go Tesla for their new vehicles… no more heavy maintenance on gas-powered vehicles - however charging Tesla’s may be a problem
@dylanharding57202 жыл бұрын
I'd suggest other EVs. Properly standardised chargers meaning more are available, and more often than not they charge faster and last longer.
