Id love to have dinner with John and Gillie , she seems a real hoot against his kinda stoic character, i just imagine lots of laughs and good old dry wit. 🍻🇬🇧

That entire period from the 60’s through to the early 80’s brought some great music and entertainment . Disco and drugs definitely did some damage. But the bands , such as Quo , despite their own issues with drugs , seemed to have a grounded effect and stood there through the test of time. They appeared to hold firm .

The Ringo of Rock - doing the right thing at the right time is the true art. I owe this man a pint as much as Collins or Bonham, etc for inspiring me so much in my own drumming.

Did an "All-Nighter" with John and the guys from State Of Quo sometime in the late 90's, my wife and I, my brother and another friend, we were all (intentionally) booked into the same hotel in Kings Lynn (very strange place....), gig at the Corn Exchange, you could not meet a nicer man than John, we had all seen Quo many times during their hey-day. As John told us, there was never any problems between himself, Rick and Alan, and that they still regularly kept in touch, John and Rick regularly for a few drinks. Everyone had a problem with Francis "my way or the highway" attitude, John the most headstrong of the four just wouldn't suffer it so walked out as we all know.... Met Francis and Rick several times as well (never Alan RIP) and in front of the fans, Francis could not be nicer, though Rick was always such a genuinely charming, sincere and lovely guy. 2 pre gig events 2 years apart (in Australia) and Rick saw us and immediately gave my wife (Dutch blond) a big hug and a "Hi Grada"! - still remembering her after 2 years!... Note: When we left Kings Lynn that following morning, our heads were not just sore from the previous nights head-banging, all seriously hung over.....

Loved the quote "bring all the booze.....and EVERYTHING else." 😆😄😉😅These guys squeezed a few lifetimes into our "average" ones....and ENJOYED IT. Us? Enjoyed the vibes and music....up to today at age 68!!

Always so sad that this band had so many issues with each other behind the scenes. I had no idea as a kid watching them as they had that image of being down to Earth guys who were all having fun. Suppose I was a kid & naive.

I heard a similar story about a very young fan back then, in the 70's, who thought Quo were the only band not to take drugs. Somehow they stayed on a positive note at every public appearsnce, and their music is about fun, not darkness, skulls and black crosses, perhaps this is the reason why everything beyond that 'nice guys' image stayed unnoticed.

I didn’t like Rocking All Over The World. It was the first song Quo did that had no bass. Horrible. John telling it like it is, was, like most drummers.
