Virgil was just different, hard to believe he is gone. He pushed the boundary and whether people like it, a major part of what fashion is today. The reason why streetwear is now part of high fashion, is because he pawed the way. Pyrex started it off on a major scale and it ended at Louis Vuitton. Legendary designer, Rest in Peace.

I think anyone who is well versed in fashion would've acted like that working for him. It's not even that his vision is necessarily wrong, but he seems to have a very rudimentary understanding of fashion in general, which had always been reflected in his designs. He never understood couture. The end product has always been just basic street wear forcing a luxurious edge into the mix, something like "street meets couture and stalks it, kidnaps it, then forces it to be its boyfriend" instead of the opposite "couture meets street". Street and couture has existed prior to OFF-WHITE, for instance Yohji's Y3, which did it right for the most part until it homogenized into the standard Adidas look. The sad truth is that OFF-WHITE sort of did the right thing, because the beautiful daring proportions and silhouettes of real ready to wear are too daunting for simple people who like street clothing; the basic bland silhouettes of OFF-WHITE were a perfect introduction for the kind of mostly-male kids and young adults who would consider a cropped proportionate look to be avant-garde.

I used to hate Virgil but i realized one thing: Everything takes time to mature im order to become great. It's true that he started his brand because of overpriced graphic tees and hoodies but je grew out of thag phase and now he's making amazing desgins. Many great designer started with making graphic tees and hoodies before getting knee deep into the fashion world like i remember heron preston with been trill before he started his own brand, the creative director of noahs clothing used to work as a graphic desinger for supreme. Human made started with graphic tees only. All I'm tryna say is don't give Virgil the cild shoulder already because of his immature approach to fashion back then he grew out of and now he's changing the fashion game, he already did him, heron preston and samuel ross(creator of A Cold wall) with bringing the industrial fashion look to the main stream. His 2017 SS & AW for men and women were dope and did i mention the nike collab???
@ThePolyesterPimp7 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry if this comes off as aggressive, it’s not supposed to be, I’m wasted, but Human Made is by the same dude who made Bathing Ape. The graphic designer is sk8thing, who designed Bape, Billionaire Boys Club, and maybe cavempt. Nigo left Bathing Ape because it became too big and Nigo didn’t like that. I guess Human Made has become all about food or something, it’s really cool because all of the clothes are comfy. But maaaaan I can’t believe this nonsense man. Keep it cool, you’re alive and we’re going to do well.

He has no perspective. This is why his collections are boring. I'm pretty sure many things he says are decorated lies too. It fits with his character.
@anthonymatta50237 жыл бұрын
Then u haven't seen his collection. It's different than anything he used to do. The thing about Virgil is that he uses hype as a tool in order to fund his actual vision. He makes "streetwear" clothes with "prints" but that shouldn't define what he makes. He only does that promote/hype the brand. Just like how Demna does with Balenciaga, he does pieces that has branding on them so it would bring hype for the actual collection. It's funny how you let the graphic tees define Virgil's vision and collection even though they were never part of the collection/vision in the first place.
@gigihadid37457 жыл бұрын
So what is whatever he calls street then? I work in the industry, and I know for sure that this whole off white thing is crap. I have not only seen the collection, I have also touched it. Cheap fabric, bad tailoring. If it's hype he is selling, he is selling it well, but he is not a couturier.

Lol I have a lot of respect for fashion designers like him in regards to their hardwork and the efficiency of their respective process but recently I have come to understand that everyone is born with the ability to find what they like for an outfit and there are literally no rules. It seems it's until folks like Virgil say it's okay to wear an outfit that people decide it is good, or until a style begins to trend for some reason. It's one thing to like what a designer has created but sometimes we treat them like they have a monopoly on creativity. Now we are seeing the rise of streetwear (which is what he's doing), something those who originally dressed that way didn't think much about(including him), they were just clothes but now he's gonna try to make that high fashion. I find it both incredibly fascinating and sad. Fascinating because what seems to influence fashion is sometimes random, random in the sense of trends or random in the sense that it comes out of the creative process of someone like Virgil. Sad because while there appears to be no structure and fashion is just creativity, we still try to hold on to some sense of structure, citing fashion designers as the creators of this structure and those who aren't conforming to the current trend aren't "dressed well" or aren't hip enough. Also streetwear in some ways is born out of the in-access of better or more expensive clothing but now it's more expense to dress this way, which is sad to me. Fashion to me is both meaningful and meaningless, I think that's something important to remember.
