The IWI hosting the event on their Marae needs to be ashamed of themselves for not reigning in those who were disrupting the representatives of the Crown. And those who disrupted should also have kept their Mana intact and showed respect to the host tribe by behaving themselves. Think of it this way readers, if you were hosting a gathering of friends, relatives and other guests to your house, would you as the host tolerate a person(s) being disrespectful to both you and your other guests?

Craig you have totally missed the point about the days leading up to the commemorative day that is the 6th of February. Allowing robust debate on the subject was done in 1840, and so it was done yesterday in 2024. But today on the 6th of February, in Waitangi, the spirit of unity for all NZers stands. Concerning manakitanga toward our visitors, in the context of the kaupapa set out yesterday, Waitangi was the correct place and forum to have it. Respect was displayed by Ngapuhi for allowing all those who did speak, speak, unfettered, unfiltered, passionately. Kia Ora Craig, you have a lovely day.
@craigm84618 ай бұрын
Shouting and screaming over others while they are speaking (especially when a speaker is talking to a crowd) is not robust debate, don't talk bollocks. The communication that happened in 1840 was NOT the same style as was done yesterday. But in any case, enjoy New Zealand day.@@joskempbaker831

@@konceptgaming9469 That is such a ridiculous, tiresome argument. This does not make it ok to rape, pillage, and poison the land and ocean. Perhaps get away from your "koncept gaming" and find out what is really happening to our planet. Aotearoa New Zealand is in real danger of being destroyed further by colonialism (look up the meaning, in case you are unsure), and those Maoris that are complicit in doing so should be ashamed of themselves. NZ First Party MP and Minister for Resources, Shane Jones, intends to impose a free-for-all mining policy onto conservation lands, which have been set aside for future generations and biodiversity. They must protect the important national values held in our mountains and forests and recognise that they need greater protection, not mining on and under them! And then there's GMO/GE crops. I would rather listen to some rubbish ideas that I don’t agree with than the idea of living in a country where you are unable to speak freely. There are those who actively stir the point with no intention of finding unity or common grounds in order to unite people and then there are those who try to fight through the noise to find solutions tfor the greater good of everyone involved. I find politicians, bureaucrats and activists to be the least helpful in this area and it is actually the average everyday people from all walks of life that are more willing to try and make a better world for themselves and their children. I applaud Jones and Peters for turning up and trying to bring a more common sense approach in to govvernment.

It is #MANDATORY for the #King's #Navy to attend Waitangi Day on the #6 #Feb each year as it has done for the last #184 #years. Notice I said #King's #Navy as in #HMS, as in #King #Charles #III's #Navy, it is not the NZ Navy as 99% of NZders believe. 3. There is a reason the Navy attends but I will not get into that as most reading this post are in #SHOCK & #DISBELIEF. 4. #Waitangi #Day #Celebrations is #Maori #holding #Parliament.

Labour didn't care about Māori until they became opposition. When they were in power they did next to nothing and that's why they lost most of their Māori seats.

Interesting his comment about NZ's changing population. Thousands of years ago Maori began their long, difficult, courageous journey to NZ from Asia via Hawaii. Now, it's a few hours in a plane.

Shane is a knowledgeable and respected person and Winston Peters should receive a Knighthood! The media in this interview were showing respect and receiving respect, when usually they are inflammatory and attacking the Govt Ka Pai📸🎥☎

It's been the same goal all along. Power over people and things Maori never had a hand in.

Shane looks drunk, or sun-stroked. What a stink situation to be in. Where you come from matters NOT if your headed in the wrong direction now. Maybe the Foreign Affairs minister should be thinking on how all NZers can cut ties to the Allies sending us ALL to hell in a WW3 handbasket, rather than picking on kids who don't have schools (because hundreds of schools have been shut down since 2013) or struggle to find relative acceptance and fall through the cracks because they're brighter and more energetic than the conformed majority within an educational curriculum that's being under-delivered by under-paid teachers who are under-resourced and overwhelmed. Winston was probably hanging for a shot because he reminded me of a drunk getting impatient to get his fix.

'Interesting' how few people seem to have been bothered by this rather fundamental flaw. New Zealanders have become inured to accepting a very low standard from our Fourth Estate ( journalists ). Also , if you're trying to focus on the questions, it's hard to know whether they're NOT asking the ones that they should be asking - but most likely aren't. Journalists who rise to the top create the narrative and steer attention away from any aspect that seriously undermines or threatens the status quo and holds it to account. This interview was just political entertainment.
