Good video Rob, thanks for posting. I'm new to kayaking and live on the south coast of western australia.YTK's are definitely a target species of mine but tell me, if a big king is towing you into the rocks and its getting a bit close to the washy stuff what is the plan? Do I throw out the anchor or is that likely to be a dangerous move? I have an anchor trolley on my yak so i can position myself ok but not sure if it's the right thing to do?

is that an anglers kayak because it looks like a round hull or is it a kayak version of a deep v hull, i usually see multi v hulls or multi channel hulls like my tidewater 80ss but in the 10' or 12' size range, i have built out riggers for my tidewater and plan to vertical jig the hudson.

Hey is a kayak thats 4.2 meters long 83 cm wide weight about 33 kilos and a capacity of 300 kilos suitable for this kind of fishing? It has 4 fixed rod holders plus one that swivels but no sounder sadly
@NZkayakfishing10 жыл бұрын
Any kayak will catch fish but some are more suitable than other, just be sure to set your drag correctly so you are not pulled out by big fish.
@dafrankfuter10 жыл бұрын

Hey mate nice video, what is it like jigging and fighting kings from a kayak? I fish from a ski so i'm in a more upright sitting position and can stand if needed... This looks like it would be hard work and a bit awkward. Great videos though

hey rob do you bleed your kingis? is it ok to do this on a kayak or would you be concerned about sharks?
@NZkayakfishing8 жыл бұрын
Yes bleeding a kingfish is a concern during wamer months when predators like sharks are around. In winter its not a problem and use a fish threader to connect the fish before bleeding. During summer they are bleed in the rear well are that has the scuppers plugged to prevent the blood leaching out of course.

Latin: Seriola Lalandi/Yellowtail, Amberjack. Its what you caught. This is the first I ever heard amberjack referred as kingfish. Kingfish aka sea mullet or kingcroaker is in the drum family or Latin: Sciaenidae. In other places it is sometimes referred to as whiting.
@safeandy799 жыл бұрын
kayak Mike Its a Kingfish you fool. I bet you're a Yank. People fly from all over the world to catch Kingfish in NZ. PS, well done googling latin names for fish Mike !!!

Andy Gray Yank?? A hard jerk?? I bet your teacher is so proud of all the work she put into educating you.
@NZkayakfishing9 жыл бұрын
kayak Mike Thanks for your comments regarding the fish species but its a Yellowtail Kingfish dude. Scientific name Seriola lanlandi completely different to what has been quoted. Its from the Carangidae family cheers
@mattnev86259 жыл бұрын
Hahaha that awkward moment when you think a kingy is a mullet lol
@itbeginx9 жыл бұрын
+kayak Mike Sorry to inform you, this is indeed a kingfish more precisely "yellowtail kingish" commonly called kingfish for short. They are all from the same genus "Seriola":Amberjack and yellowtail kingfish are all subspecies of theSeriola genus. Amberjack is most common name in atlantic regions. Am assuming you're from USA, I don't blame you for being close minded and know it all but do some real research before you lash out on others.
